Vicious Circle Open Beta

Rooster Teeth Games announces an open beta test is underway for Vicious Circle on Steam, offering the chance to check out what they describe as an "uncooperative shooter." Here's a Gameplay Trailer, and here are details on the game:
Vicious Circle is an uncooperative multiplayer shooter set in a colorful yet gritty sci-fi universe. Gameplay is fast and frenetic with an emphasis on thwarting other players with dirty tricks at every turn. Be a mercenary and compete for loot, or take on the role of a massive monster and try to kill everything in your path. The first player to collect the biggest haul and reach the evac zone wins - unless the player controlling the big baddy gets them all first.

Work with other mercenaries to survive, but remember: only the player with the most loot wins. Should you combine forces against the terrifying monster, or sneak away to make bank while everyone else is busy? Mercenaries cannot directly harm each other, but they can use the environment and a selection of potent gadgets to outwit their opponents. Maybe lock a door at the right moment to trap another player in the same room as the monster, or use a gadget to suck the loot away from everyone around you. Just remember, what goes around comes around.

This includes a series of questions they introduce like so:
The next several questions will each present you with a set of 3 possible combinations of Civilization-style DLC/Expansion features. Please choose the combination “bundle” you find most appealing in each set. You will repeat this “pick the most appealing” exercise multiple times, so read and judge each one carefully.

Black Mesa Xen/Gonarch Beta

An announcement on Steam from the Black Mesa team declares the Xen/Gonarch episodes in this Half-Life remake are now in beta testing (thanks RedEye9). They're waiting for you Gordon... in the test chamber:
Testing... Testing...
Beta time! We’ve pushed all of Xen and Gonarch’s Lair to the public beta branch on Steam. The technical beta was just 3 maps, the complete Xen and Gonarch’s Lair is 9 maps.

Thank you to all who tested and who will test for us. We think the feedback so far has made the levels in the technical beta significantly better, and it would not have gotten there without the fresh eyes of the community.

Interloper, Nihilanth, and Endgame will follow after this beta and will double the map count to 18 total maps.

Earthbound has had a soundscape overhaul, fixes to game breaking bugs, and recompile of all the maps. If you take a trip through the earthbound chapters and find any game breakers, please let us know.

Also a reminder, the complete Xen soundtrack is available NOW. You can check it out here:

This trailer comes with the news, offering 23 seconds of nothing, but the announcement provides more substance:
Hello Games, an indie development team based in the United Kingdom, will release the free No Man’s Sky: BEYOND update on Wednesday, Aug. 14 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. No Man’s Sky: BEYOND rolls three major updates into one larger free release, which includes No Man’s Sky Online, a radical new social and multiplayer experience that empowers players everywhere in the universe to meet and play together. The BEYOND launch also delivers No Man’s Sky Virtual Reality to supporting platforms, bringing the entire game to life in an immersive and enriched VR experience.

Inspired by the adventure and imagination found in classic science-fiction, No Man’s Sky presents players with a galaxy to explore, filled with unique planets and lifeforms, constant danger and action. In this infinite procedurally generated universe, players discover places and creatures that no others have seen before – and perhaps never will again.

The No Man’s Sky: BEYOND update is the seventh major free update for the limitless procedural universe since the game’s launch in 2016. BEYOND is comparable in size to the hugely popular NEXT update released last year.

Out of the Blue

Today is D-Day for our move of the BlueTower, as the movers will deliver all the stuff we put into storage when we first staged our old home for sale well over 15 months ago. This was all done in a bit of a panic at the time, preventing us from being able to take enough time to dispose of some of this stuff, rather than storing it. The passage of time has only made that fact seem more painful, as we realize we don't miss almost any of this stuff, but the monthly charges for storing it has continued to pile up. I can't shake the idea that we should have just ghosted the mover and waited to watch our possessions show up in an episode of Storage Wars. I kid, of course (well, mostly), but there is an unfortunate truth that we'll probably end up getting rid of some of this stuff that we paid to store. But we are determined to break free of any hoarding tendencies we've had in the past, so we won't allow sunk cost fallacy to deter us from decluttering.
