Publisher Daedalic Entertainment and developers FakeFish and Undertow Games announce a June 5th start date for early access to Barotrauma, their co-op, sci-fi submarine simulation. This game puts up to 16 players in control of a sub that's exploring below the surface of Jupiter's moon Europa in a complete disregard for the (*spoiler alert*) warning in 2010: The Year We Make Contact. This trailer explains more about the game, and the announcement has more:
Publisher Daedalic Entertainment and independent developers FakeFish and Undertow Games today announced their highly anticipated multiplayer sci-fi submarine simulator Barotrauma will go into Steam Early Access for Windows PC, Mac and Linux on June 5, 2019. Barotrauma sends up to 16 players on an underwater journey beneath the surface of Jupiter’s moon Europa, where you’ll discover alien wonders and horrors, command various submarine systems, and fight to survive dangers from both outside and within.

Navigate a chilling ocean filled with strange creatures, explore alien ruins, and cooperate with your crewmates to accomplish missions on your voyage. Choose one of several classes and work together to manage complex systems, including the nuclear reactor, guns, engines and sonar. Fend off hostile monstrosities, seal deadly radioactive leaks, and survive crewmembers infected with extraterrestrial viruses. But beware: some threats are closer than you think. Traitor mode is a multiplayer option that may randomly assign players as secret conspirators, complete with their own individual missions like assassination and sabotage.

Oscillating between thrilling and hilarious, Barotrauma allows you to create your very own creative chaos with procedurally generated levels and full mod support. Ragdoll physics give the game a uniquely weird look and feel, making it fun to both watch and play.

Key Features:

  • Master intricate submarine management and crafting systems to survive the frigid depths of Europa, one of Jupiter’s largest moons.
  • Work together in adrenaline-filled 2D co-op multiplayer with up to 16 players. Or betray your crew and bury them in an icy grave...
  • Explore a vast ocean filled with alien life, ruins and other dangerous secrets.
  • Enlist as one of several classes: submarine captain, engineer, security officer, mechanic, medic and assistant.
  • Procedurally created levels and events ensure no two games are the same.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint Announced

Ubisoft officially announces Ghost Recon Breakpoint, confirming the leak that this is what they teased for today's announcement. They are already committed to a release date, saying this new installment in their military shooter series will come to PCs and consoles on October 4th. They also reveal this will once again feature actor Jon Bernthal, who joined the series in a recent update for Ghost Recon Wildlands. The news is illustrated by a pair of videos, a standard announcement trailer as well as a gameplay walkthrough video. There's a lot to unpack in the announcement, as they unveil plans for four different editions, a standalone collectible, a year one pass, and new endgame raids. Here's word:
Today Ubisoft announced Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon© Breakpoint, the latest installment in the Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon franchise, will be available October 4 on the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, Xbox One family of devices including the Xbox One X, and Windows PC. After successfully rebooting the Ghost Recon formula with Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon® Wildlands, Ubisoft Paris* has created an entirely new adventure, putting players back in the boots of the Ghosts, an Elite US Special Operations Unit. But this time they are stranded behind enemy lines, facing their toughest enemy to date.

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint is a military shooter set in a diverse and hostile open world entirely playable solo or in up to four-player co-op. Players will discover Auroa, a mysterious island where the most technically advanced facilities meet wild and untamed nature. Home to drone creators, tech giant Skell Technology, Auroa has fallen into the wrong hands and all contact has been lost.

The Wolves, a lethal ex–US Military unit of former Ghosts gone rogue, have taken over the island. Led by Nomad’s ex-brother-in-arms, Lt. Colonel Cole D. Walker, portrayed by Jon Bernthal, they have reprogrammed Skell’s drones into killing machines and are ready to use them, no matter the casualties. Nomad and the Ghosts are sent in on a recon mission, but their helicopters are shot down. Injured, without support, and hunted down, players will live an intense military experience as they fight to survive, take down the Wolves and regain control of Auroa.

Steep slopes, accumulating injuries, and fatigue are new challenges for players to tackle as they test their survival skills in the varied terrains of Auroa. To overcome adversity, players will enjoy total freedom to accomplish their missions and have plenty of tactical options and tools at their disposal, including a set of new military features. They will be able to carry enemies and teammates’ bodies, blend into their environment with prone camo and set up camp with teammates in the bivouac to manage equipment, change classes, and fine-tune their strategies.

They will also be able to choose among thousands of customization combinations to create their perfect Ghost, and keep their character and progression through the game in both the main campaign and Player-versus-player (PvP), available at launch.

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint will include a robust post-launch content support plan, with regular updates after launch. New story arcs, classes and features will be continuously added, and for the first time in a Ghost Recon game, a new type of endgame content: raids.

SEGA Europe announces the acquisition of Two Point Studios, the developer of Two Point Hospital (two points to you if you knew that). Two Point is now wholly owned SEGA studio "and a fully integrated SEGA Europe pillar," joining a roster that includes Creative Assembly, Sports Interactive, Relic Entertainment, Amplitude Studios, and HARDlight. "We're delighted to welcome Two Point Studios officially in to the SEGA family. As a relatively new, British-based developer with a global hit already under their belts, we knew we had to move quickly on this deal because they are an extremely attractive investment proposition with a great deal of talent," said Gary Dale, President/COO for SEGA Europe Ltd. "The Searchlight team at SEGA Europe have done a fantastic job integrating the studio over the past two years and the studio have gone on to produce a fantastic title with clear franchise potential." The announcement doesn't go into future plans following the acquisition, but it does offer a little resume for the developer:
Two Point Studios was set-up in 2016 by Lionhead alumni, Gary Carr, Mark Webley and Ben Hymers, with the goal of creating accessible games with understated depth, set in atypical worlds. The trio set about assembling a 17-strong team, featuring talent from some of the best and most experienced developers, who between them have worked on titles like Black and White, Alien: Isolation and Fable at studios including Creative Assembly, Lionhead and Mucky Foot. On 30 August 2018, Two Point Hospital launched worldwide as a PC digital download, garnering critical acclaim and commercial success.

Out of the Blue

We caught up with the first episode of Chernobyl on HBO and wow, is that intense. It may seem that knowing the general outcome of the disaster would prevent this from being that interesting, but they make this work well for how the story unfolds as you start out with a greater understanding of what's at stake at first than most of those involved. That, combined with all that's at stake makes it all incredibly gripping. I have to agree a sentiment I saw expressed in our forums that I wish the whole thing was available right off to binge. If you haven't seen it yet, here's the official trailer for the series. Now please excuse me, I want to hunt down some iodine pills.
