Path of Exile Melee Change Plans

A new Development Manifesto from Grinding Gear Games has word on how they're approaching the melee rebalance in the upcoming version 3.7.0 update for Path of Exile, their action/RPG (thanks VG247). Here's what to expect from the game's next expansion, which is planned for June:

In Synthesis, we performed an extensive rebalance of Spellcasting throughout Path of Exile. A lot of this work focused on a numerical rebalance of most skills.

We have indicated that the June 3.7.0 expansion contains a similar rebalance of Melee skills, and while we certainly do intend to numerically adjust them to make sure they're viable, the actual scope of Melee changes planned is a lot larger than we have indicated so far.

Players from other Action RPGs have occasionally criticised Path of Exile's melee combat for being "clunky", especially early on before players get a lot of attack speed. We are making various experimental changes to the animation system that should help resolve these concerns and really tighten up the feel of melee combat.

In addition to animation system improvements and melee skill rebalances, we are experimenting with changes to systems such as accuracy, melee splash, leech, fortify, various Ascendancy classes, the passive tree, hit/miss feedback, melee base types, movement skills and melee damage availability on items.

This post has been intentionally light on specific details because all of the above potential changes are ongoing experiments that evolve as we try new stuff. We'll post more information in the news over the coming weeks (with the majority of it after 3.7.0's announcement in May). We are very excited about these changes and look forward to sharing more information with you.

Edit: And Cyclone is now a Channelled skill.

Funcom announces that Treasures of Turan is now available for Conan Exiles, offering new DLC that adds new building pieces, placeables, armor sets, weapon sets, warpaints and pets to their barbaric open-world survival game. This is live for Windows and PlayStation 4, and is said to be coming to Xbox One "soon." This blog post covers the news, and features a new trailer showing off all the newness. They also announce the launch of a new season pass, which includes this DLC. Here's word on the new pack and the pass:

The riches of the eastern kingdom of Turan have arrived in Conan Exiles, Funcom’s open world survival game set in the brutal world of Conan the Barbarian. Available now on PC and PlayStation 4, and releasing soon on Xbox One, the new DLC introduces the opulent gilded palaces of Turanian culture to the savage Exiled Lands. In addition to more building styles, players will also find new armors and weapons, new warpaints, new placeables such as glittering statues and standing lamps, and two new pack animal pets: the richly adorned caravan Rhino and elephant.

A new trailer for the Treasures of Turan DLC was also released today, showing off all the new content. For more information about the new DLC, head over to the official Conan Exiles blog.

One Finger Death Punch 2 Released

One Finger Death Punch 2 is now available for Windows, offering a brawler sequel where you can give your opponents the finger... to death! You can use a click from your one finger to view some gameplay in the launch trailer, and the game is now available from Kartridge and Steam. Here's what to expect:

Silver Dollar Games urges players to GET OVER HERE and play One Finger Death Punch 2(OFDP2) now that it's available on PC.

In One Finger Death Punch 2, players take on the role of the chosen one (AKA white stick figure) as they fight through wave after wave of bad guys. "It's been a long five years for my brother and I, and now that the game is available, we're going to get TOASTY," says Silver Dollar Games' Jon Flook while holding a comically large toaster. "Once we're done enjoying our toast, we'll FINISH HIM! And by that, we, of course, mean continue work on getting One Finger Death Punch 2 onto additional platforms, including PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch in hopes we achieve a FLAWLESS VICTORY."

One Finger Death Punch 2 is now available on Steam, Humble Store, and Kartridge and is expected to launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch in winter 2019. For more information, please visit OFDP2.com.

Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition Revealed

A new ESRB rating reveals that an Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition is apparently in the works, listing Windows PC as the target platform and showing this will be rated T (thanks DSOGaming). The original version of this RTS sequel was first released in 1999, and it seems safe to assume that this version will incorporate technical improvements, but these are not listed, nor is an official release date. The description they provide basically covers the original game and why the board feels it's ill-suited for pre-teens:

This is a real-time strategy game in which players control empires from the Dark Age through the Imperial Age. From an overhead perspective, players complete campaigns, build structures, gather resources, and command/deploy military units (e.g., infantry, horsemen, war elephants) against nearby civilizations. Players can zoom in on military units, while they use swords, bows, and cannons to eliminate enemy forces and structures; battles are accompanied by weapon clashes, cries of pain, and explosions. Some battlefields depict impaled soldiers on spikes, and a handful of cutscenes depict images of soldiers impaled by arrows. One still-image sequence shows a large bloodstain on the ground along with blood splatter on parchment. The word “bastard” is heard in the game.

Out of the Blue

Happy tax day, as today is the deadline for filing income taxes here in the U.S.A. Hopefully everyone who is facing this has all the paperwork in order, my heart goes out to anyone still struggling with those taxing forms. Today is also the anniversary of the sinking of the RMS Titanic. That was 107 years ago, so we can probably call off the search party for Jack (spoiler alert!).
