Anthem Roadmap

There's an outline of current and upcoming changes for Anthem on Reddit outlining plans for a client patch as well as some fixes they've been able to implement on the server side. There's also an Anthem Acts and Updates Page from EA, offering a roadmap of what to expect from BioWare's new action/RPG over the next 90 days. They break this down month-by-month, saying: "The world of Anthem is a dangerous place. Chaotic. Unpredictable. A world left unfinished and abandoned by the gods. As a freelancer, you are one of the elite few chosen to fight against the chaos. To wield the power of your javelin and bring order to the madness." This was announced in the BioWare Blog where they announce the game's live service is now, well, live. Here's a bit on how they see things:

Coming off our Early Access period, we understand that we have lots of work ahead of us to continue to improve the game. As a Live Service team, a core tenet for us is listening hard to the community. We use that insight to fix issues and make Quality of Life fixes to the game. Our most recent patch – the one you are playing now — reflects your feedback. You can see the list of changes here. Many came from listening to you. Beyond that, we have a growing list of improvements we’re evaluating for the future. You’ll start seeing the next of those this coming week.

While launch is our most significant step yet, it is also just the first of many in fulfilling our long-term vision for the game.

I look at today from two perspectives. As a gamer, I’m excited by what we’ve created with Anthem and the promise it carries for a long future behind the game’s lush world, immersive lore, rich characters, and core gameplay. As a developer, I know we’ve worked hard to strike a balance of engaging BioWare story combined with fun action-gameplay and multi-player progression; I also know how much more we want to bring to the game.

Anthem’s launch represents a commitment we’re making to you: we’re just getting started.

We shared a preview of our Live Service calendar 2 weeks ago. Today, I’m excited to share our first 90-day roadmap. It includes more insight on what we are planning for the game and the community. We’ll be talking in more detail about this roadmap in upcoming streams and social media.

We also commit to sharing updates with you frequently and consistently. I look forward to hearing more of your feedback on our plans and the game overall.

I’ll close by welcoming you to the game and thanking you for your support and feedback thus far. This is just the start of a rich Live Service we’ll be creating together. See you in game.

Anthem Released

Electronic Arts announces today is the official launch day for Anthem, saying the multiplayer action/RPG is now available for Windows, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. This follows a week of exclusive access for Origin Insiders, and EA has also detailed the contents of a day one patch for the game. A post on Eurogamer has tips for new players. Here's the previously released launch trailer and here's the release announcement:

Today Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) and BioWare officially launched Anthem™, inviting players to don their javelins and fully immerse themselves in this brand-new world as a team of four. Players take on the role of Freelancers, and will work together to unleash their power with amazing abilities and coordinated teamwork, utilizing each javelin’s unique strengths to build a formidable team.

“I feel remarkably similar to when we launched the original Mass Effect trilogy,” said Casey Hudson, General Manager of BioWare. “I’m excited, anxious and incredibly proud of what our team has accomplished. I sincerely hope our players enjoy what we have created, and I look forward to the countless stories we’ll tell in the world of Anthem in the weeks and months to come.”

Anthem also delivers amazing characters and deep lore that allows players to immerse themselves in the world and embrace its mysteries, as well as regular new content that will change the world and keep the experience fresh and new. In the game, players will square off against the nefarious Monitor, the leader of the militaristic Dominion who seeks to bend the very powers of creation and destruction to his will. The Freelancers must thwart the Monitor’s schemes to control the Anthem of Creation, or else he could tear the entire world apart and plunge the planet into ultimate chaos.

Launch is just the beginning for Anthem, as the game will continue to grow and evolve through free live service content updates. Over the next 90 days alone the game will deliver new missions, new rewards, a new stronghold and more. Perhaps the most noteworthy inclusion will be the introduction of the first Cataclysm, a world-changing event that will bring with it an entirely new experience. During the course of the game’s life new stories, characters and villains will emerge and players will be treated to ongoing excitement and conflicts.

Sundberg co-founded the Swedish developer in 2003 with Linus Blomberg. He's been serving as Chief Creative Officer, and is credited as the designer on the original Just Cause. He does not give reasons for the departure, but such moves are not unexpected after a company is acquired, and Nordisk Film bought Avalanche last year. Here's his announcement:

I just announced to the team here at #AvalancheStudios that I will be leaving the company at the end of April. The studio I founded in my kitchen, built, ran and loved for 16 years, working together with fantastic individuals and teams.

Out of the Blue

When I picked up Jedi the Jindo yesterday to take a walk with the Gunnar-man, the twin were watching "Stranger Dragons" (How to Train Your Dragon). They explained they were watching the series in case it had clues to what to expect from the new animated film (How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World), which debuts today. They then excitedly asked if I would come with them and their folks to see it today, which was very flattering. So much so that I think I will indeed tag along with them. The movie is actually getting great reviews, though I don't know how much adult appeal it will carry, but I'm just going along for the experience. And that experience should be interesting, as the matinee will likely be mostly children, which should make for an interesting time to say the least.
