Cyberpunk 2077 Punks Epic Exclusivity

A tweet from CD Projekt RED indicates that the developer has no intention of making Cyberpunk 2077 an Epic Games Store exclusive (thanks via [H]ardOCP). This might seem like simple prudence after seeing the backlash to the news that Metro Exodus would be exclusive to Epic's new shop. But there's an even more obvious reason, since they are the owners of their own online store: Here's word:

Paradox ARG Teasing New Vampire: The Masquerade Game?

On its surface, the new Tender Website appears to be another online dating dealie, hoping to get in on some of that left- and right-swiping that constitutes romance in the modern era. There seems to be more to this, however, as the Game Detectives Wiki makes the case that this is an ARG from Paradox Interactive, the actual operators of the site (Paradox owns the copyright, and you can sign in with your Paradox account). As with most ARGs, this is somewhat arcane and complicated, so thanks Destructoid for summarizing the theory that this is a tease for an upcoming return to the Vampire: The Masquerade license, last visited by Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines, the action/RPG that sucked the last drops of blood from Troika Games back in 2005. Here's word:

All right so theory time. White Wolf is the publisher of the famous Vampire: The Masquerade tabletop RPG series. Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines is one of the most popular Western RPGs in PC history and the series has gone untapped in the video game world since then. White Wolf Publishing technically owns the license for V:TM and its accompanying universe, the World of Darkness. I say technically because after a controversial chapter was published in the 2018 version of the V:TM tabletop book, Paradox Interactive gutted the company and assumed command.

With Dungeons and Dragons now fully back in the cultural zeitgeist, as well as Cyberpunk 2020 getting a video game adaptation, we are in a new age of video games based on existing tabletop series. I wonder if the World of Darkness is the next series to get some modern love? Guess we'll find out over the next six to eight weeks. Which by the way, six to eight weeks takes us to the second half of March into the first week of April. That's nowhere near E3 or PDXCon, so any speculation on that date is welcome.

Heroes of the Storm Plans and New Hero Rumor

Who is Anduin Wrynn: Heroes of the Storm’s next hero(?) on Inven Global is a post examining a rumor that the next hero to join Heroes of the Storm will be Lord Anduin Llane Wrynn, "the High King of the Alliance, King of Stormwind, son of Varian Wrynn, nephew of Jaina Proudmoore and nephew of Magni Bronzebeard." This is unconfirmed, as it comes by way of a leak. On to more concrete news, a Heroes of the Storm Update from Heroes Production Director Kaéo Milker discusses the future of the MOBA since Blizzard dropped the games support for esports and moved many of its developers to new projects (thanks Game Informer). He does not confirm that Anduin Wrynn is coming, but does say their next hero is near: "our next new hero is also right around the corner. There are some theories floating around as to who’s next, but we have a few more releases before they’ll be ready to see the light of day." He also outlines goals for 2019, including more skins, more events, and a change to allow players greater flexibility to purchase whatever skins players desire, which will include the ability to use in-game gold. He also discusses previously revealed plans to improve game modes, saying an AMA to cover this topic will probably take place this month:

Let’s talk about features and systems. There’s been a lot of discussion both on the Heroes dev team and amongst our community regarding the state of Ranked Play, Quick Match, and matchmaking. The team’s made some decisions as a continuation of the plans we shared at BlizzCon and we have a schedule for a series of improvements we’ll be making across the next few patches and Ranked Seasons. Much like we did in our AMA’s last year, we’d like to have the developers responsible for those changes discuss these plans with you at our next Reddit AMA, tentatively planned for later this month. As part of that AMA, we’ll also dive into some thoughts surrounding our continued evolution of Quick Match and our upcoming completion of the Hero Role overhaul, so please join us for that discussion. We’ll share the upcoming Reddit AMA schedule soon!

Out of the Blue

HBO Targets "Deadwood," "Lies," "Warrior" Dates (thanks Ant) has some scheduling from the cable giant. After only recently making the transition from optimistically hopeful to assured about plans for a Deadwood movie, I was prepared to see this was due in 2020 or 2021. You can therefore imagine my pleasant surprise to read that this is actually expected to debut in the U.S. this spring. Word is the goal is to air it before the end of May to be eligible for this year's Emmys. I don't think I've ever been so hyped for three movies in one span in my whole life as I am for the next three months. Captain Marvel is due on March 8th, Avengers Endgame expected on April 26th, and now the Deadwood movie by the end of May. Where's my popcorn?
