No Man's Sky Free Visions Update Tomorrow

Hello Games announces a Visions update is coming for tomorrow to No Man's Sky, their space exploration game. This comes on Thanksgiving from the U.K.-based developer, and all owners of the game can be thankful that this will be free. This imbues the game with new worlds, new creatures, new missions, and more variety. It also updates previously dead planets and changes the look of the game with a new color palette, which is shown off in this announcement trailer. Here are the details:
U.K. developer Hello Games has unveiled a new free update, “Visions,” which will be made available to all No Man’s Sky players on Steam for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on Thursday, November 22. Following “The Abyss” update released last month, which brought major changes to No Man’s Sky’s vast underwater environments, “Visions” will encourage players to return to the surface and explore new biomes and planets, all in a reimagined colour palette.

New Worlds: No Man’s Sky’s “Visions” update greatly improves the variety and diversity of planet surfaces with millions of previously dead planets now bursting with life. Players can find mysterious artefacts on alien planets and collect them as mementos or display as trophies in their planetary base.

Bizarre New Creatures: “Visions” will introduce players to new strange and curious creatures found among the stars, waiting to be discovered for the very first time. Predatory fauna and deadly flora including carnivorous trap plants wait to ensnare unsuspecting travellers and reward the cautious.

Global Community Missions: A new community research mission will allow players to share their progress as they work towards a common goal. Players can discover the “Visions” universe together and unlock the Eye of the Korvax helmet, as well as other emotes and building parts.

More to Discover and More Variety: “Visions” will bring more variety to No Man’s Sky as the universe has become more alien, vibrant and exciting for players to explore. Atmospherics and skies have been improved and rainbows added to the range of in-game weather effects, enabling more unique worlds. Players are invited to unleash their inner archaeologist and explore the galaxy for planets containing the bones of ancient alien lifeforms. Travellers can unearth the remains of fallen satellites to salvage for parts but risk drawing the attention of a new threat and danger – corrupted sentinel drones. Players who can endure and survive the most extreme of weather in No Man’s Sky may also be rewarded with previous crystal treasures that only light up in the worst of storms.

Europa Universalis IV: Golden Century Next Month

A new Golden Century expansion for Europa Universalis IV is coming on December 11th, glorifying a magical hundred years of piracy and genocide. This will come along with a major free update for the base version of the grand strategy sequel that reworks the maps of Iberia, Northwest Africa, and Mexico. The conquistadorable accompanying trailer is 50 seconds of nothing, but the announcement adds more details:
From the completion of the Reconquista to the defeat of the Spanish Armada, the Iberian Peninsula was the center of gravity for Europe. Spanish and Portuguese explorers and conquerors built rich overseas empires. English privateers preyed on the gold shipped through the Caribbean. And the Catholic Church ruled hand-in-hand with great monarchs like Isabel of Castile and the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V.

Golden Century, the newest Immersion Pack for Europa Universalis IV, takes you back to that age of adventure and ambition. This add-on to Paradox Development Studio’s classic game of empires and trade is inspired by the Golden Age of exploration and piracy. Golden Century will be available for $9.99 / £7,19 / €9,99 on 11 December 2018.

Features of Europa Universalis IV: Golden Century include:

  • Minority Expulsion: Settle your distant colonies with homeland minorities, promoting greater cohesion at home, while adding more diversity to your subject nations.
  • Establish Orders: Iberian nations can appoint Jesuit, Franciscan or Dominican clerics to govern their states to reduce unrest or ease conversion.
  • New Mission Trees: New missions and objectives for the nations of Iberia and Northwest Africa, including Spain and Andalusia.
  • Pirate Republics: Play as or combat against pirate nations in dangerous sea zones, with their own flavor and game style.
  • Flagships: Appoint a Flagship to lead your navy, adding combat and trade power to your fleets.
  • Naval Barrage: Use your ships to help besiege coastal forts by bombarding the walls.

Golden Century will ship with a major free update that includes an extensive reworking of the game maps of Iberia, Northwest Africa and Mexico.

TrackMania Turns 15

Today marks the 15th anniversary of the TrackMania series, an arcade racing series that's attracted a passionate following since it kicked off in 2003 (thanks Frans). A post to the Maniaplanet Forum this cinematic trailer asking and answering the question "how did I get here?" (this is not my beautiful car!). Another Maniaplanet Forum Post from last month discussed the anniversary and laid the groundwork for celebratory events. Here's a bit:
The 21st November 2003 was released the first Trackmania game. For nearly 15 years, many players have discovered the Trackmania series and met people, created and shared maps, skins, videos, websites, tools, servers, controllers, mods, game mods, titles, items, music, etc.

Many online and offline competitions were run. People became friends, some of them got married thanks to Trackmania and even got Trackmania babies ^_^

Out of the Blue

Happy level-up day to me, as it's my birthday today. The 21st is the last day in November before Thanksgiving that cannot be the actual holiday, so while they never coincide, this is not my first time being overshadowed. On the other hand, since it is a travel day for so many people, and likely to be quiet, I think I will take advantage and wrap things up early today. If you are among those hitting the road for the occasion, here's hoping your travels are safe and free of aggravation. And if you are attending one of the lavish galas being held around the globe to celebrate my birthday (this is actually said to be the biggest night of the year for bars in this country), please be extra careful, and avoid drinking and driving.
