3D Realms Plans QUAKE-Engine Shooter

1C Entertainment and 3D Realms announce plans to bring Ion Maiden to consoles next year, widening the reach of this dad joke-titled shooter using the old-timey Build-engine. As that wave of nostalgia crashes about us, they also reveal they are collaborating on another retro shooter, saying an FPS based on the original QUAKE engine is also in the works (so this isn't a revival of the original Duke Nukem Forever, as that was announced as a QUAKE 2 engine game). There are no other details, here's the part of the announcement covering the news:
1C Entertainment, a global PC and console publisher will collaborate with 3D Realms, the developer of classic first-person shooters including Duke Nukem and Shadow Warrior, to bring Ion Maiden to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in Q2 2019, in addition to the previously announced Steam release. Both companies will also collaborate on a new unannounced FPS based on the original Quake engine coming to all the same platforms as Ion Maiden.

Ion Maiden’s exclusive multi-hour preview campaign is available on Steam Early Access for $19.99 in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish and Russian. The retro first-person shooter developed in the Build engine, which powered Duke Nukem 3D, Blood, and Shadow Warrior, will simultaneously release on all platforms Q2 2019 in both digital and physical formats. In this prequel to 2016’s Bombshell, Shelly has to take down transhumanist mastermind Dr. Jadus Heskel.

Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales Launches

Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales is now available for Windows on, offering a new single-player RPG set in the Witcher universe that incorporates some of the virtual card gameplay of GWENT. This also has perks for GWENT players, including 20 new cards. Here's a new story trailer, and here are the details:
Thronebreaker is a single player role-playing game set in the world of The Witcher that combines narrative-driven exploration with unique puzzles and card battle mechanics.

Crafted by the developers responsible for some of the most iconic moments in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the game spins a truly regal tale of Meve, a war-veteran queen of two Northern Realms — Lyria and Rivia. Facing an imminent Nilfgaardian invasion, Meve is forced to once again enter the warpath, and set out on a dark journey of destruction and revenge.

Main Features:

  • Experience an all new 30-hour Witcher Tale with 20 possible world end-states.
  • Embark on over 75 thought-provoking side quests — one of the hallmarks of The Witcher series.
  • Explore never-before-seen parts of The Witcher world — Lyria, Rivia, Aedirn, Mahakam and Angren.
  • Manage resources, recruit and develop units in your very own customizable war camp.
  • Build an army and engage in story battles, which twist the game’s rules in wildly unexpected ways.

Additional Features:

  • Thronebreaker features over 250 single player tailored cards, as well as 20 brand new cards for GWENT: The Witcher Card Game.
  • Each card represents an entity in the game — characters players interact with during open world exploration can become on-hand assets, deployable during battle.
  • During each playthrough, players make choices and face their consequences — acting against an ally’s convictions might cause their card to disappear from the deck.
  • Mastering the campaign allows unlocking premium animated versions of cards, additional multiplayer avatars, borders, and titles.
  • Fully voice-overed dialogues, localized into 11 languages.

Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales comes with these bonus items:

  • Concept art, including the map of Lyria
  • Digital version of GWENT: Art of The Witcher Card Game artbook from Dark Horse.
  • The Witcher graphic novel "Fox Children" by Dark Horse
  • 2 in-game GWENT: The Witcher Card Game Player Titles
  • 2 in-game GWENT: The Witcher Card Game Player Avatars
  • 5 premium kegs for GWENT: The Witcher Card Game
  • Official Thronebreaker Soundtrack

How about more GWENT extras?

Out of the Blue

I'm a little sore this morning after a bizarre dog-walking incident last night. As I've mentioned, we're local outlaws, as I let the Gunnar-man walk off the leash for the most part, even though that's prohibited in this area. At one point Jedi and I were waiting at a corner for Gunnar to finish his business, but he cut the corner when he was done, getting ahead of us. At this point Gunnar noticed we weren't in front of him where he expected us to be, so he took off down the sidewalk in an ill-conceived attempt to catch up with us. By the time I realized this, he was already far enough away that he couldn't hear me calling, and Jedi and I had to take off down the block after him. Luckily, the same advanced age that made it hard for Gunnar to hear me also makes him slow enough that we eventually caught up with him. But this was after a pretty long sprint for me considering I don't do a lot of running these days, not to mention I was wearing steel-toed work boots in place of running shoes. So yeah, I have a strain today, I'm not sure if its a glut or a high hamstring, but either way I'll be limping around for a while.
