EA now offers the Battlefield 1 Premium Pass for free, access to the game's expansions that normally costs $49.99. This post has the details:

The Battlefield™ V Open Beta is now over, and we know it’s left a huge, 64-player hole in your heart. Not a problem, because the Road to Battlefield V continues with the Battlefield™ 1 Premium Pass becoming absolutely free* for one week only, starting now.

This offer will let Battlefield 1 owners play everything Battlefield 1 Premium Pass has to offer: They Shall Not Pass, In the Name of the Tsar, Turning Tides, and Apocalypse. If you’re not familiar with these, don’t fear – we detail each right below the download information.

Insurgency: Sandstorm Delayed

The insurgency is coming, as publisher Focus Home Interactive announces a new December 12th release date for Insurgency: Sandstorm, New World Interactive's upcoming first-person shooter remake. They planned on releasing this next week, but are taking extra time for improvements based on feedback from the preorder beta. That beta will continue on until release, and they are extending the loyalty discount for owners of the original Insurgency through the end of March. This post has more on the news, including details on some of the changes they plan to make with the extra development time. "Despite the game’s improvement, we are acutely aware that not all of you are having the ideal experience we want to deliver. By extending the beta and moving our launch date to December, the additional time will allow us to make significant improvements to the game with continued input from you," they explain. "The additional time allows us to target a lower minimum system requirement, address more bugs, work on overall polish, gather additional feedback from the community to refine gameplay, and ensure that highly requested community features which may otherwise have had to be added post launch (such as community servers and custom games) are ready for day 1." They offer this list of major goals:

  • Upgrade to Unreal Engine 4.20 and continue optimizing
  • Improve the character models, textures, and animations in the game
  • Improve the “scoped” experience for both high and low-quality scope settings
  • Improve the level visuals, gameplay and optimization
  • Add more cosmetic item variations and a new forearm tattoo cosmetic type which can also be seen in first person
  • Expand in-game server options to include a server browser, community-run server support, and a custom games system allowing users to specially configure games hosted by our server infrastructure.
  • Refine the game to the point it has far less bugs, glitches, visual inconsistencies and other issues.

Steam Getting Uncensored Anime Game Friday

A tweet from Dharker Studios reveals that Valve has approved their Negligee: Love Stories for release on Steam this Friday with no censorship (thanks DSOGaming). This will be the first such release since Valve announced plans to accommodate such content without putting off those with more delicate sensibilities. Word is: "Steam have given the official thumbs up... Negligee: Love Stories will be releasing this Friday 100% uncensored on Steam." The tweet includes a Steam link that you must sign in to view after acknowledging your consent to possibly be offended, and the game's description outlines how far this goes: "Negligee: Love Stories features four story-lines that frequently include dialogue of sexual themes, sexual interactions and nudity and through them illustrations featuring nudity, undressing and sexual interactions as well."

Call of Cthulhu One Hour Gameplay Video

Do you like scary movies? Well Eurogamer kindly points the way to a new trailer from Call of Cthulhu, showing off the upcoming horror game based on the works of H.P. Lovecraft. This features developer commentary from Cyanide Studio and includes almost a full hour of gameplay, so how much of the game you're willing to spoil should factor into whether you choose to view this. The description offers a nice overview of the game, which is due next month for Windows and consoles:

About Call of Cthulhu:
Private Investigator Edward Pierce is sent to investigate the tragic death of the Hawkins family in their imposing mansion on the isolated Darkwater Island, off the shores of Boston. Between unfriendly locals and dubious police reports, it becomes clear there’s more to the case than meets the eye. Soon enough, Pierce is plunged into a terrifying world of conspiracies, cultists, and cosmic horrors.

Hidden passageways, nightmarish asylums, illegal bars, and seemingly-abandoned warehouses make up Darkwater’s scattered geography. Originally supported by a now long-dead whaling industry, the island is home to only desperate old sailors and decaying families of old money with nowhere else to go. They do not like outsiders.

Faced with terrors beyond human comprehension, you must delve deep into the secrets that lay beneath the surface of the Darkwater Island community. Speak with the island’s inhabitants, overcome deadly horrors and discover cryptic clues, in a desperate attempt to expose the terrible truth at the heart of the Hawkins case.

Investigation comes in many forms. Will you talk to characters to learn their secrets, or look around on your own? A friendly ally may provide a much-needed distraction or reveal a path to progress but picking a lock or stealing a key is equally viable.

Despite his experience in the Great War, Pierce is not a fighter, and you will need to find solutions to your problems that don’t involve a fist fight or gunning down the inhabitants.

Halo 5 Guardians Coming to PCs?

Microsoft may be planning on bringing Halo 5 Guardians to PCs, a potential payoff on years of unfulfilled promises to refocus on PC gaming. Ars Technica notes a small, but potentially significant change to the listing for the first person shooter on Amazon.com. The box art in the listing has changed, and a blurb that formerly read "ONLY ON XBOX ONE," now says "XBOX ONE CONSOLE EXCLUSIVE." The distinction clearly leaves them free to release this for PC, which would be an upgrade over Halo 5 Forge, a free game for Windows 10 released two years ago as a "learning opportunity." Ars sent inquiries to see if Microsoft would confirm this, but has so far received no response.

StarCraft II Plans Balance Changes and TotalBiscuit Commemorative Pack

Blizzard offers a couple of StarCraft II tidbits. Noting the strong support the RTS sequel received from John "TotalBiscuit" Bain, they are planning a commemorative pack for the critic known as the Cynical Brit, who died earlier this year at the age of 33. This cosmetic pack will be on sale from later this week through the end of the year, and 100% of the proceeds will go directly to John's family. They are also donating all sales (after taxes) of the TotalBiscuit announcer pack to his wife and son, saying this is being applied retroactively to all sales since April. These sales may see an uptick thanks to their other news, which is plans for a StarCraft II balance revamp, saying this will come in a new patch shortly after the WCS Global Finals at BlizzCon. They offer details on planned changes which include video snippets to show off gameplay, and kick things off with this overview:

Last year, we released an update containing design changes aimed at improving StarCraft II multiplayer. This year, we plan to release another design patch soon after the WCS Global Finals at BlizzCon. Our main goals for this patch include balancing the late-game power of each race while discouraging turtle play, ensuring upgrades present non-trivial decisions, and broadening the unit composition options in a number of matchups. This includes looking at each race’s massive units and making improvements to give them a clearer role or to make them more interesting to play with.
