THQ announces an official release date for Darksiders III, saying the sequel will hack-and-slash its way onto Windows, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on November 27th. They are now accepting preorders through the Darksiders III Website, offering the following incentive: "Players who pre-order Darksiders III at participating retailers will receive the GAME plus the FURY Exclusive Armor DLC – a completely original skin for FURY’s base armor that will set her apart and always be visible during gameplay. FURY Exclusive Armor DLC will be available on launch day, November 27." Here's the description of the game they include with the news:

Evening Interviews

Op Ed

GamesIndustry.biz - ArenaNet sends all the wrong messages.
"First, to ArenaNet developers and would-be applicants: The company will not go to bat for you against the fanbase if they decide they don't like you. Your employment with the company will always be precarious. ArenaNet will not hesitate to throw you under the bus for having the audacity to be annoyed by people telling you how to do your job, or for simply sticking up for a co-worker who does the same.

To misogynist trolls: Guild Wars 2 is a welcoming place for you. Your tactics are valid and effective. Please continue harassing women and minorities out of the industry because ArenaNet doesn't want them here enough to support them when it is in any way inconvenient.

To Guild Wars 2 players: You are the most important thing to ArenaNet. What you say, goes. ArenaNet doesn't particularly care if your anger will embolden an internet hate campaign, or what horrible repercussions might come from unconditional subservience to your apparent whims. Just please stop yelling."

Steam Competitor Coming from China

South China Morning Post reports that Chinese gaming giant Tencent is planning on bringing their WeGame platform to the global audience in an attempt to compete more directly with Valve's Steam service and to create a better pipeline to distribute Chinese games in the west (thanks GamesIndustry.biz). This only seems appropriate in light of Valve's recent announcement of plans to expand Steam's reach into China. Here are some details:

Tencent Holdings, which runs the world's largest video games business by revenue, is set to launch the international version of its WeGame store and social platform in Hong Kong, with the aim to build up the overseas market for China-developed personal computer games.

WeGame, an upgrade from the previous Tencent Games Platform, went online in September last year as a Chinese-language site where users can watch live-streaming video games, access support tools for communication between players and developers, and download PC and stand-alone games.

“The Hong Kong version of WeGame is now under development,” said a spokesman for Shenzhen-based Tencent in a statement on Friday. “This version will be available for overseas users, and we will use this platform to bring more Chinese games to the global market.”

WeGame, China’s biggest PC games distribution platform, currently offers about 220 titles available for download, including games developed overseas. Don't Starve Together, a multiplayer survival game developed by Canadian independent studio Klei Entertainment, had sold more than two million copies on WeGame by April, according to Tencent.

Here's word on plans for the game, which will once again include a coupon for a discount on an actual NASCAR race:

Worbital Beta

Worbital is a real-time strategy game which will pit players in interplanetary artillery combat when it comes to Steam later this year. Those interested in this concept have the chance to try this out right now, as this announcement reveals that a public beta is now underway. All one has to do to get invited into the beta is joint their Discord channel, though they warn that while they have a "generous" number of keys to distribute, they are not unlimited. This video offers a look at gameplay, and the announcement has details on the beta and the full game:

The public beta version of Worbital is different from the one that will be available for purchase at release, as Worbital is still work in progress. Currently it has limited weapon loadout and online multiplayer mode only. Gradually we will introduce more features into the game through regular updates. This will help keep the testing more focused on specific features at certain times. During the beta run, you can expect to see AI and Local Multiplayer modes, as well as additional weapons and a few other things. The beta will become unavailable shortly prior to the final release. After that, Worbital will only be available through purchase. More additions will come to the final game, let them remain a surprise for now.

As the testing goes on, we’ll ask you to fill in a few tester surveys for us, so we can get as much as possible useful info to improve the game. The survey forms will be shared on Discord. In addition to that, every now and then we’ll be asking you more direct questions on the #testing chat.

U.K. Sales Charts

GFK Chart-Track announces their latest charts are available to track game sales in the U.K. for the week ending Saturday. The child they love the most is their all platforms chart, of which they say, "Sold Out Sales & Marketing’s ‘Jurassic World’ has to settle for No2 on its debut, as Activision Blizzard’s ‘Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy’ holds off competition to retain the No1 spot in the Top 40 All Formats Chart." Things are pretty stable on the PC games top 30 chart except for the Overwatch GOTY Edition which pops up at number six out of nowhere and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, which drops off the top 30 altogether after sitting at number eight last week. Out of the Blue

I'm happy to see that the new Ant-Man movie is getting good reviews. In spite of the obvious overload, I remain a fan of the Marvel movies. I'm still on the fence about heading out to the theater for this, because MrsBlue is refusing to attend with me, so I'd have to go solo. She's been a good sport about seeing several of these with me in the past few years, but she was too upset at the ending of Infinity Wars to soldier on any further, and no amount of reassurance that some elements of what seems so tragic will probably be undone along the way have mitigated that. So yeah, true to being a supervillain, Thanos really messed things up for me.

New Warframe Content Plans

Digital Extremes held their annual TennoCon convention yesterday to gather Warframe players to celebrate the third-person shooter, and discuss its future, which now includes plans for a Switch version of the game. They also discussed new content, unveiling plans for two new Warframes, a new expansion called Fortuna, and another to follow called Codename: Railjack which will "enable 1-4 players to board a warship on land and ascend into space to explore and fight!" We have a one-minute Fortuna Update Reveal Trailer and lots of details to share:

The Fortuna Expansion
Bursting with an imaginative terrain and science fiction aesthetic, Fortuna is introduced with a whimsically synchronized musical video guaranteed to surprise and delight! The Venusian landscape packs exciting new gameplay experiences with the introduction of a new faction and lore -- the Solaris United faction and its struggle against their Corpus overlords -- and an expanded level of vertical gameplay.

Starting from the underground Colony of Fortuna where players pick up bounties and missions, Tenno (players' in-game name) will ascend to the surface of The Orb Vallis to view an exotic new terrain blanketed with Orokin structures, towering mushroom stands, and oceanic flora. Tenno will be able to traverse the landscape more quickly with the Bondi K-Drive, a single-player hoverboard that nimbly jets across the landscape at the touch of a controller.

Key Features in Fortuna Include:

  • The Orb Vallis, The New Open World -- Building on the success of Plains of Eidolon's earthen Landscape, The Orb Vallis is Digital Extremes' massive new Landscape. Volatile, mercurial clouds of blue and orange loom over a sci-fi terrain populated with seascape flora, giant mushrooms, alien rock formations, rare creatures, and more.
  • Solaris United and Fortuna -- The cyborg Faction Solaris United live in the Blade-Runner-esque Debt-Internment Colony, Fortuna. Similar to the gathering bazaars of Cetus in Plains of Eidolon, Fortuna is an underground hub city that serves as a factory to clean coolant rivers and doubles as a trading hub for the region.
  • New Combat Experiences -- The Corpus occupiers, led by the profit-obsessed Nef Anyo, bring new technology and warriors to bear. Alongside new Corpus ground troop variants, monstrous new Spider Bot enemies of all shapes and sizes will challenge players to face their fears when they explore The Orb Vallis and face-off with the prophet of profit.
  • Ride a Hoverboard -- Blaze across the wide open Venusian landscape by piloting the Bondi K-Drive. Call up this handy customizable hoverboard and quickly glide, jump, and trick across a variety of terrain.
  • Join the Conservation Movement -- Switch your mindset from blast-happy mercenary to friendly savior. The strange, wonderful animals of the Vallis are going extinct. Explore the new world of Fortuna and apply your new skills to track, lure, and capture them for relocation.
  • Musically -- The talented sound team at DE has engineered an alien-tech soundscape of eerie effects and ominous music that set the sonic tone for an incredibly rich experience, and they are joined by renowned sound composer Keith Power who has returned with an upbeat, hum-out-loud musical intro of Fortuna unlike anything you have heard before.

Codename: Railjack
Digital Extremes' newest expansion is part of a grander vision. In addition to the open-world expansion of Fortuna, a separate future update takes Warframe down a totally uncharted path. 'Codename: Railjack' will enable 1-4 players to board a warship on land and ascend into space to explore and fight!

Players will coordinate responsibilities across the military spacecraft to engage in PvE combat against hostile enemies. The full space experience grants extensive player freedom with options to launch Archwings into space to board, infiltrate and destroy enemy ships during battles. This future update looks to create a cohesive gameplay experience between Warframe's open Landscapes, procedurally generated levels, and a new outer-space freedom in a unique sci-fi world.

Key Features in 'Codename: Railjack' include:

AirMech Wastelands Leaves Early Access

AirMech Wastelands is now out of Early Access and officially released for Windows on Steam (thanks PC Gamer), offering an action/RPG spinoff of this sci-fi series inspired by Herzog Zwei. Word is this solo campaign arm of the AirMech project is still considered beta, but we're not sure what distinction is being drawn there. Here's a description of the game:

AirMech Wastelands is an Action-RPG set in an alternate future America following a global collapse of modern civilization. You are one of a few skilled survivors who are able to operate AirMechs and maintain them. You begin in the center of what used to be America where pockets of survivors remain, since the coastlines were reduced to ashes during the war.

You will rise up from scavenger to leader, adding AirMechs and the ability to build armies of your own to command. Will you discover the source of the continued attacks on humanity?

Word is this will launch soon in the U.K. for desktop PCs, but the plan is to eventually roll it out to other territories and to add support for mobile devices. Here's more:

Out of the Blue

I'm not a serious soccer fan, but I enjoy sports, so I was drawn in by the World Cup and watched some of yesterday's games. It's not a complicated sport to follow as a casual observer, and I mostly enjoyed the experience. But as much as it makes me feel like an old man to admit this, I have to say the background noise quickly started to grate on me severely. Thankfully there are no more vuvuzelas involved, but clearly fans in the stands attempt to make as much noise as possible every minute. This is to the point where the ambient noise level sounds like the scoring celebrations in other sports, with the goals becoming positively deafening. The good news is that turning the sound way down solved this problem well enough, and it turns out not listening to the announcers doesn't really detract from the experience at all.
