Fallout Tease?

Bethesda Game Studios tweets a "please stand by" message in the unmistakably duck and cover style of their Fallout series. It remains to be seen what comes of this, but E3 is on the horizon, so perhaps an announcement is in the works. PCGamesN notes a follow-up tweet from Obsidian where the Fallout: New Vegas developer indicates that this does not involve them, saying, "How do you let someone down easily? Asking for a friend. #ItsNotUs."

Army of the Republic of Vietnam Invades Rising Storm 2: Vietnam

Steam now offers the promised Army of the Republic of Vietnam content as a free update for Rising Storm 2: Vietnam, Tripwire Interactive's military shooter sequel. This post has a changelog for the new version, and this one has videos for the launch, including the launch trailer. Here's some of the announcement:

Tripwire Interactive and developer Antimatter Games continue to expand and improve their award-winning first-person shooter RISING STORM 2: VIETNAM with today’s release of the free Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) Content Update. Over one million Vietnamese served in the ARVN over the course of the Vietnam War, with over 250,000 lost in action. Largely equipped with older US military equipment and trained by foreign military advisors, ARVN soldiers bore the brunt of frontline fighting throughout the war both prior to the escalation of US military involvement and after the US began reducing its troop presence.

With the release of the ARVN update on May 29, 2018 for RISING STORM 2: VIETNAM players can play as soldiers in the ARVN faction for the first time, as well as enjoy new weapons and five brand-new maps.

Battlestar Galactica Deadlock The Broken Alliance Launches

Steam now offers The Broken Alliance, a new DLC pack for Battlestar Galactica Deadlock, the Windows strategy game based on the science fiction TV series. Slitherine celebrates the occasion with this trailer celebrating the launch. Here's the news:

DRADIS contact! The Toasters are not the only enemies you will meet in deep space. Discontent and pessimism spread through the colonies already under Cylon attack, and civil war is closer each day. Meanwhile, a strange request comes from Aquaria: it’s the start of a chain of events that could change the tide of the war.

The Broken Alliance DLC pack for Battlestar Galactica Deadlock™ includes 8 new story missions that are seamlessly integrated into the single player campaign, and linked together into a brand new plot that explores the intricate and feeble maze of Colonial politics. New characters enter the fray, disrupting old pacts and forging new partnerships. The Broken Alliance DLC pack expands the lore of the Battlestar Galactica universe, bringing a new story of intrigue and backstabbing to Battlestar Galactica Deadlock™. In the DLC you will also find four new capital ships and two new squadrons.

PUBG vs Fortnite Lawsuit

PUBG Corporation is suing Epic Games in Korean court, accusing them of copyright infringement in Fortnite for copying the battle royale genre which they did not invent from PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS (thanks BBC News). Here's a bit on the legal stink from the Korea Times:

Korean game developer PUBG, a subsidiary of Bluehole, has filed a copyright violation lawsuit against U.S.-based Epic Games, asking a court to determine whether the latter's "Fortnite" was copied from the former's "PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds."

A PUBG official said Friday that the firm filed an injunction, alleging copyright infringement, with the Seoul Central District Court against Epic Games Korea.

"We filed the suit to protect our copyright in January," said the official.

Released in July last year, "Fortnite," a first-person shooter (FPS) game, has recently become popular around the world, threatening the popularity of "Battlegrounds" that was a great hit in the global game market last year.

When "Fortnite" was first launched, the game only had the "Save the World" mode, at which gamers build walls and defended it. But in September, the firm added the free-to-play "Battle Royale" portion into the game, provoking a plagiarism controversy and allegations that it copied "Battlegrounds" items and user interface (UI).

When the controversy flared in September, Bluehole said in a statement that the firm was mulling ways on how to respond to the claims that core elements and UI of the Battle Royale mode of "Fortnite" seemed to be similar to those of Battlegrounds.

The Korean firm added that it was regrettable that Epic Games, which was a partner of Bluehole, had released a similar game.

More PUBG Sanhok Testing

This announcement on Steam has word that testing of the Sanhok map for PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS resumes this week:

As discussed in last week’s dev letter, we’ve been hard at work improving all the fine details of our newest map, Sanhok. This week, Sanhok is coming back once again for a fourth round of testing on the Experimental Server.

As before, everyone who owns a copy of PUBG will be able to play simply by downloading the updated version of the “PUBG: Experimental Server” found in your Steam library.

Full testing schedule below:

TESTING BEGINS:
May 31, 7pm PDT / June 1, 4am CEST / June 1, 11am KST

TESTING ENDS:
June 4, 4am PDT / June 4, 1pm CEST / June 4, 8pm KST

This will likely be the final Sanhok test on the Experimental Server. If everything goes according to schedule, Sanhok will come to live servers near the end of June. Even after it launches, we’ll continue making changes based on the feedback we get from you guys.

See you on the Experimental Server!

Soulblight Demo

Steam now offers a playable demo for Soulblight, the top-down action roguelike recently launched by indie developer My Next Games. In addition to providing a sample of the full game, this offers the chance to own it, as everyone who tries the demo will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win the game. Here's a newish video with a guide to their unfortunately named Taints system, and here's a refresher on Soulblight:

Soulblight is a dark, unforgiving, top-down action roguelike luring you to cross the thin line between good and evil. Instead of XP grinding, it introduces a Tainting Mechanics. While traveling through the shattered reality of the Sanctuary, you will receive personality traits based on your choices. These will be the main source of your strength. To harness them, you will have to act accordingly. Becoming an alcoholic means that you will be rewarded for getting drunk, but from that point being sober might prove to be unbearable.

Out of the Blue

Should I kill spiders in my home? An entomologist explains why not to (thanks RedEye9). I've discussed this before... I have a catch and release policy for most bugs that get past the defenses and enter the BlueTower, and those too small or quick for this get executed. But we are a full-on spider sanctuary. I'm very fond of the little guys and their tireless efforts to eradicate real pests, and am always happy to see them. There are usually a couple of them visibly inhabiting corners in my office, though I don't happen to see any at the moment. But they're out there doing their thing, and for that I am quite grateful.
