League of Legends Pyke Reveal

A new champion reveal unveils Pyke, the Bloodharbor Ripper, the next hero coming to League of Legends, Riot's MOBA. This trailer offers a look at Pyke in action, and here's word on how he plays:

As Pyke, you’re a cutthroat who cripples and kills all who cross you—which is everyone you come across. Start by stalking your victims with a Ghostwater Dive, lurking right at the edge of their vision. Resurface with a swift Bone Skewer to butcher multiple enemies at point-blank range. Hold the blade a little longer to harpoon just one foe instead, reeling them in to your territory before gutting them like a fish.

Get even more aggressive by rushing foes with a Phantom Undertow, leaving opponents paralyzed with fear as the rest of your crew closes in. When you smell blood in the water, finish the job with Death from Below to clinch the kill and cross multiple names off your list.

Galactic Civilizations III Anniversary Sale

Stardock announces that they are celebrating the third anniversary of the release of Galactic Civilizations III with a big sale on the turn-based 4X strategy game. That post also includes a history of the series, which started 24 years ago with the first commercial game for OS/2. Here's more on their retrospective:

When our CEO Brad created Galactic Civilizations from his dorm room at Western Michigan University, he had no idea that it would lay the groundwork for Stardock growing into what it is today. He was just looking for a pay to pay the bills while he went to school - he didn't expect to launch his own gaming company!

Although Stardock has made many other titles throughout the years, everything comes back to Galactic Civilizations, the thing that started it all. Let's take a look at some side-by-side screenshots and see how the game has grown and evolved.

Sniper Rust VR Demo

A playable demo for Sniper Rust VR is now available from Oculus and Steam, offering a virtual reality sharpshooting game that requires an Oculus Rift headset and touch controllers to play. Here's a trailer showing off gameplay, and here's the pitch for the demo, which points out you have nothing to lose: "Check out the Sniper Rust VR demo to put your sniping skills to the test. The demo includes a full level and access to shooting range mode; plus it won't cost you a penny or a dime." Continue here to read the full story.

Boss Key Closed

A tweet from Cliff Bleszinski announces that Boss Key Studios has come to the end of the line (thanks RedEye9). He notes that Radical Heights gained more traction than the unsuccessful LawBreakers, but that the battle royale game was too late to save to company, though he does say that the Radical Heights servers will remain online for the time being. Here's the post, in which he thanks supporters, and says he needs to take a break from the business:

As of today, Boss Key Productions is effectively no more.

Four years ago I set out to make a world class video game studio and I hired some of the best talent in the videogame industry. They worked tirelessly to produce quality products and, while we had our ups and downs, I'd like to think we had fun doing it. LawBreakers was a great game that unfortunately failed to gain traction, and, in a last ditch effort we scrambled to do our own take on the huge battle royale genre with Radical Heights which was well received, however, it was a little too late.

As for myself, I'm going to take some time off and reflect. I need to focus on myself and family as well as my Aussie, Teddy, who is slowly fading from us. Videogames will forever be a part of who I am and I hope to make something new again someday, however, I need to withdraw and take this time.

To those who have supported myself and the studio these last for years, THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart and everyone who came to work for me.
Please note that the servers for Radical Heights will remain up for the near future.

Thanks again,

Cliff

RAGE 2 Announce Trailer

Following the leak mentioned below, Bethesda Softworks now offers the official RAGE 2 announce trailer, showing off a sequel to the vehicular first-person shooter. The cinematic provides a taste, but a trailer showing actual gameplay is expected tomorrow, as word is: "The official gameplay reveal for RAGE 2 will release right here tomorrow, May 15. Stay tuned for more information about the return of the wild world of RAGE." In the meantime, there's a new RAGE 2 section on Bethesda.net which offers the following blurb: "Dive headfirst into a dystopian world devoid of society, law, and order. RAGE 2 brings together a true open world FPS experience where you can go anywhere, shoot anything, and explode everything." Interestingly, none of this bears any mention of id Software, developer of the original RAGE from 2010, and according to Kotaku, the developer on the sequel will be Avalanche Studios.

RAGE 2 Video Leak?

Variety has a capture from a RAGE 2 video that leaked onto the leaky internet last night before being taken down. This is an augmented live-action affair that shows a return to the Mad Max-style apocalyptic setting of the original RAGE. Bethesda has already given indications the sequel will be announced today, so this will probably be officially released soon enough.

SuperHot JP Announced

The GameTomo Website announces SuperHot JP, a new version of SuperHot that imbues the untextured, slow motion shooter "with a distinctive Japanese flavor" (thanks GameInformer). The current plan seems to be to release this in Japan, so we'll have to stay tuned to see if it will also come to the west. Here's more:

The iconic red guy is coming to Japan!

With the innovative time-moves-only-when-you-move fps game play, SuperHot JP (not the real title) is a new game set in the SUPERHOT universe. While maintaining the same intoxicating rhythm of slow motion combat, this new SUPERHOT presents a brand new adventure with a distinctive Japanese flavor.

Dodge bullets, while bathing in a hot spring.

Battle the red guys in a variety of new Japan-inspired environments, from hot springs to samurai castles, from seedy Tokyo alleyways to karaoke bars and bullet trains.

Escape the "real world" and into the mysterious reality of the new Budd-OS.

One step at a time.

Out of the Blue

I've been wondering if and when Westworld would heat up this season, and it's fair to say that this is what happened last night. Without posting any spoilers, I'll just say I was surprised how much of the new revelations all came in the same episode. Often they would spread out some of what they showed last night over a few weeks (or even a season). I found this refreshing, as the show certainly trades in enough mystery that a little clarity is welcome on occasion.

Black Ops 4 Thursday Reveal Reminder

Call of Duty tweets a fuzzy gif from Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, or Black Ops IIII (thanks Charlie INTEL). This is to remind us of the previously promised worldwide reveal of the military shooter sequel on May 17th, which is this Thursday. The simple post says: "4 days. #BlackOps4." A previous tweet specifies this will be done in an event that will get underway at 1:00 pm EDT which will be livestreamed through a number of outlets.

Overwatch Anniversary Event Next Week?

A post on Reddit has an animation reportedly captured from the Brazilian Overwatch feed before being removed (thanks PC Gamer). This says an anniversary event will kick off on May 22nd in Overwatch, which makes sense, since that's the second anniversary of the launch of the multiplayer shooter almost to the day. The clip shows a new pirate skin for Junkrat along with a bunch of other skins from previous events which are apparently making returns for the occasion.

Out of the Blue

Happy Mother's Day! MrsBlue and I went to dinner last night, and the waiter wished her a happy Mother's Day. This reminded me that I heard on the radio yesterday that it was Dog Mom's Day, a very important holiday I can't recall having heard of previously. I offered her a toast for the occasion, but she just looked at me like I was nuts. Which, of course, is true. Here's hoping it goes more smoothly for those of you having more traditional celebrations.
