Battlefield V Battle Royale Plans?

In an unconfirmed story, VentureBeat says that DICE is testing a Battle Royale mode for Battlefield V in a report similar to yesterday's rumor that a Battle Royale mode is being created for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. They say this will probably come as a free update after the release of the military shooter sequel, attributing the rumor "to someone with knowledge of the studio who asked to remain anonymous." They say Electronic Arts declined their request for comment.

For Honor Adding Training Mode Tomorrow

Ubisoft announces a free update is coming tomorrow to For Honor, adding a new training mode to the Windows and consoles editions of the melee combat game. This trailer offers a look, and the announcement fills in details:
Today, Ubisoft announced that For Honor® will be introducing an all-new training mode as part of a free update available tomorrow on April 19 on consoles and Windows PC. The new training features will offer additional ways for new and veteran players alike to hone their skills and rise up the ranks from Apprentice to Master.

The Apprentice Trials and the Warriors Trials will be the perfect places for newcomers to get acquainted with the controls, learn basic and more advanced techniques before entering the battlefield. A grading system will give players the opportunity to replay and measure their progression. The Training Arena will give advanced players the opportunity to further perfect their mastery of the Art of Battle and customize their training experience by practicing against specific Heroes or move sets. The update will also introduce the Training Media, an in-game library for tutorials. Here players will find videos on game modes, the faction war, and quick info on in-game features.

These new training features are part of For Honor’s Season 5, Age of Wolves, which celebrates the first anniversary of the game and has brought major improvements to the player experience, including the implementation of the dedicated servers on both consoles and PC, as well as reworks of several Heroes. The release of the all-new training mode is part of For Honor’s continued growth since launch. With five seasons, three different in-game events, two free weekends and more than 5,000 pieces of new content added the For Honor team has been dedicated to making the game more accessible and engaging for all players.

Cities: Skylines Parklife Expansion Next Month

Paradox Interactive and Colossal Order announce Parklife, an expansion for Cities: Skylines that will add parks and recreation to the urban planning game, offering the chance to get in touch with your inner Ron Swanson. A look at what this involves can be found in this announcement trailer, and here's word on this premium expansion and an accompanying free update for the base game:
Today Paradox Interactive and Colossal Order announced that Cities: Skylines will be getting a playful new expansion, Parklife on May 24, 2018. Parklife is a lively new add-on for the PC version of Paradox Interactive and Colossal Order’s hit city-builder. The expansion will make your city more vibrant than ever with new amusement parks and zoos; nature reserves and city parks, giving new life to your empty land with custom green spaces.

Parklife adds new ways to play with everything from roller coasters and campsites to flower beds, fountains and flamingos. There’s also a new park area tool, five new maps, a ton of new assets and level-up features that increase your park’s property values in play.

More leisurely features:

  • Parks and Recreation: Use the new park area tool to create park districts wherever there is empty land, and new city services like Park Maintenance, which boosts happiness and effectiveness, and helps level up parks.
  • Brick by Brick: Customize your city with new buildings and assets, including a new sightseeing bus line, new service buildings, fresh attractions like amusement parks, nature reserves, city parks and zoos. There’s also a regal new monument, the Castle of Lord Chirpwick.
  • Freeway Free for All: For the first time in Cities: Skylines, you can place buildings next to paths in the park districts (not just next to roads). Props can be placed anywhere inside park areas.
  • Recesses Between Buildings: Transform those empty spaces between your buildings into vibrant parks and gardens.
  • It’s a Walk in the Park: Customize routes and set ticket prices for new walking and sightseeing tours, among other tourism enhancements.
  • Policies, Please: Take on three new city policies and eight new park policies to deal with recreational hazards like Fireworks and Animal Ethics.

More than that, Cities is adding a new radio station: Country Road Radio. The radio host is pure Dixieland Delight, spinning six instrumental tracks and ten songs with original vocals covering Appalachian Folk, Bluegrass/Honky Tonk, Nashville Modern Country and Unplugged country.

In addition to the paid expansion, Cities: Skylines will also get a free PC update, as usual, including a new tourism panel, trees that reduce noise pollution, a camera mode upgrade, new tourist models, and new modding features, including submeshmodding and an improved camera system so users can control the camera with scripts.

Din's Legacy Announced

Soldak Entertainment announces Din's Legacy is their next project, an action/RPG coming to Windows, Linux, and macOS. This webpage has details on the project, as does the announcement:
Soldak Entertainment today announced Din's Legacy.

Din's Legacy is an action RPG with mutating characters, set in a dynamic, evolving, fantasy world for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

During the Orc Schism, the entire Orc race was violently split into Dark Orcs, Zombielords, and the Mutated. The Mutated are tainted with Orc blood, a zombie parasite, and necromancer magic. This makes people seriously mistrust and even fear them. The fact that they slowly mutate over time makes it even worse. Who is going to trust you when you grow horns overnight?

Despite all of this, the Mutated are actually more closely related to the Elves, both their behavior and physically. They want to prove this to the world, but they are facing a tremendous uphill battle.

The trickster god Din was intrigued by their chaotic mutations and burning desire to prove themselves to the world. Always in need of champions, he made a pact with the Mutated. Each volunteer would become one of his champions trying to save the world wherever Din sends them. In return, each time they die in his service he resurrects them to continue their service.

Din's Legacy, as well as the Mutated's and yours, are all in your hands! Can you be the Champion that is needed?

Din's Legacy is scheduled to be released in the 4th quarter of 2018, however it will be released when it's done. We are planning on some kind of Early Access in the near future though if you want to get in early! For more information about Din's Legacy head over to http://www.soldak.com/Dins-Legacy/Overview.html

Konami Splits With UEFA

Variety has the news that Konami and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) are ending their business relationship. They say it's not clear if Electronic Arts is stepping in to try and make a deal to feature the UEFA in their FIFA franchise, but they do offer some speculation of how this will affect the Pro Evolution Soccer series:
Jonas Lygaard, senior director of brand and business development for Konami Digital Entertainment B.V., said the company is shifting focus into other areas this year. It recently signed a long-term exclusive agreement with soccer star David Beckham, who will appear in PES 2018’s myClub mode, along with runner Usain Bolt.

“We will continue to explore alternative ways UEFA and Konami can continue to work together, as our relationship remains strong,” Lygaard said.

“Konami has been a strong licensing partner for the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, with our competition brand being heavily featured within the video game and as part of the popular Konami-organised UEFA Champions League e-sports tournaments,” said Guy-Laurent Epstein, marketing director of UEFA Events SA. “It has been a very cooperative and mutually beneficial partnership. UEFA would like to thank Konami for its tremendous commitment and support to UEFA club competitions for the last decade and we look forward to continuing to work with Konami in the sphere of UEFA national team football.”

Dominaria Update to Test Magic: The Gathering Arena Tabletop Tie-ins

Wizards of the Coast announces details on Dominaria, a large update for Magic: The Gathering Arena coming to the CCG on April 26th. This will bring changes to the game's economy, new draft and constructed events, and more, promising a livestream event on April 25th to show off all that's new. They also announce this will kick off an experiment with how to tie the tabletop version of Magic: The Gathering into this electronic version of the game:
On April 26, after an extended downtime, Dominaria will be released for MTG Arena! Every legend, every Saga, and every Thallid will be playable. This update will include more visual improvements and a brand-new battlefield.

We're also starting an experiment with this release that explores ties between the tabletop game and MTG Arena. With the release of Dominaria, we will be performing a limited test of redeemable game codes in New Zealand only. New Zealand booster packs and Prerelease packs will include an in-game code that New Zealand residents can redeem for in-game items in Magic: The Gathering Arena.

We're excited to learn from this first of many such tests. Our goal is to find ways to bring more value to all kinds of Magic players and we want to get it right. If and when we expand these explorations to other regions, we'll be sure to share details.

MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries Destruction Trailer

Piranha Games offers a new trailer from MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries showing off the kind of destruction to expect when their Mech game is released in December. Here's the official explanation:
While there has been damage of sorts featured in past MechWarrior games, none have extended the destructibility feature to the extent of MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries. And having played various builds of the game to date, I can attest that blowing shit up in a giant robot FEELS REALLY FREAKING GOOD.

TYPES OF DESTRUCTION:

  • MECH DAMAGE: Mechs will take damage to various parts, including limbs – and depending on what has been damaged on your mech will vastly affect how you can perform in battle. If your leg is destroyed you may not have the stamina or speed to get back to your dropship in time, for example.
  • ENVIRONMENT DAMAGE: Environments can cause damage as much as an environment can absorb damage. If you are on a hot planet and running a larger/quick-to-overhead mech build, you will be able to deal far less damage to your enemies. Additionally, in both urban and natural environments you will have the ability to use buildings, certain rock formations and trees as cover but all of it is destructible – so if getting at enemy mechs means taking down a skyscraper, THEN BY ALL MEANS…
  • ENEMY AI DAMAGE: MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries will feature numerous forms of enemy AI infantry and combat vehicles and helicopters designed to defend and protect bases, forts, mines or resources. Taking them out will require precision aim and a penchant for knowing which types of ammo and weaponry work best to deal with smaller but deadly and hostile units.

MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries launches this December. It is the first single-player MechWarrior game in more than two decades. Featuring co-op, full modding support and a campaign with replayability in mind, you will navigate your band of rogue pilots and crew into one of the more feared, respected and coveted lance’s (unit) in the Inner Sphere. The Surge Adds Free DLC

This Steam post announces the release of the Cutting Edge pack for the Windows edition of The Surge on Steam, adding free content to Deck13's action/RPG. To celebrate, the game and its premium DLC are all currently on sale for up to 75% off. Here's word on the free DLC:
Dystopian Action RPG The Surge is preparing to unleash its latest free DLC for Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC players: the Cutting Edge Pack, and as good news always comes in pairs, the game and all of its DLCs are up to 75% off on Steam and Xbox One.

The Cutting Edge Pack DLC will grant 3 new armor sets providing a variety of useful boons when worn in their entirety, 3 devastating weapons, as well as 3 brand new jumpsuits:

  • The ANGEL was originally designed for operation in the harsh vacuum of space, some of the most inhospitable conditions known to man, and bestows faster attack speeds, better energy gain, harder impacts on CODENAME weapons.
  • The ASCLEPIUS was meant to assist army veterans in gaining a new lease on life, but its regenerative powers will work well enough for you too.
  • The NANO WARD gear uses bleeding edge technology to give your blocks some serious explosive power – if you can time them right.

On the more offensive side, CREO’s new weapons are the latest technology, prototypes for blue-sky projects that may never see the light of day – and certainly haven’t been safety-tested!

  • The Experiment 44H, known as the Dark Star, never saw full production due to the madness of its creator leading to him sabotaging the whole project before more than one could be made. Its unique containment field will wreak havoc on enemies.
  • The Engelhart is a boost tool that uses state-of-the-art technology to become searing hot anytime, anywhere. As potentially dangerous to the wielder as their enemies, it requires skill and practice to use effectively.
  • The BioN J-1, codenamed Last Aid, is quite literally a surgical tool, originally designed for use in medical hospitals. After an unfortunate incident with a rogue doctor, it became known as a tool of carnage.

Once the DLC is installed you will find six fierce new enemies in Abandoned Production, Executive Forum, and Nucleus that must be defeated to acquire the new items.

Abandon Ship Major Update and Soundtrack

A new patch is now available for Abandon Ship, offering the first major update to the seafaring strategy game since it set sail in early access on Steam. The update is dubbed Treasures from the Deep, and this trailer offers a look on what it adds. In addition, they are now offering sales of the official soundtrack. You can find more details on The Treasures of the Deep in this post, which warns that saved games from previous versions of the game will no longer work after this update. Here's a bit:
Our first major update focuses on feedback from the community, and we've added some big systems that substantially improve the game. These concentrate on the following areas:

  1. Implementing an alternate solution to instant-killing crew in events
  2. Offering ways to get out of the 'downward spiral' that could occur if things were going badly or recovering from ship destruction.
  3. Supplementing the save system outlined in the Roadmap.
  4. Adding a "Quick Start" option that skips the opening section.

These issues often compounded each other and could prove frustrating. The post below describes our solution to these problems, and there is also a short video that explains some of our changes here:

Out of the Blue

I am going through quite a stretch right now. I'm suffering from the early stages of another cold or nasal infection, which seems like the third or fourth in a very short span, in stark contrast of a recent run of a few years without catching one. Then last night I re-aggravated my back, as the Gunnar-man was a little squirmy as I tried to dead-lift him off his bed to go downstairs. I'm pretty sure I've gone through more Advil since January than I have in any previous entire year.
