Free Weekend for Day of Infamy and INVERSUS Deluxe

Steam News announces a free weekend is underway for Day of Infamy and that a free weekend is also underway for INVERSUS Deluxe. Each game is also on sale for the duration if your sampling inspires a purchase. Here are descriptions of both:

Experience close-quarters battles in iconic WWII settings. Defend the line, storm the beach, torch the enemy, or use a radio to call in fire support. Day of Infamy is a teamwork-oriented shooter that will keep you on your toes and coming back for more with its diverse game modes and authentic arsenal.

INVERSUS Deluxe is a competitive and cooperative arcade shooter with a mind-bending twist. Player movement is constrained to opposite colors of a black and white grid. My walls are your paths and your walls are my paths. Each shot flips tile colors in an attempt to block, trap and close in on the enemy.

Ghosts of the Precursors Correction

We have a follow-up to the news that a Star Control game called Ghosts of the Precursors is being developed by Fred Ford and Paul Reiche III, aka Toys for Bob. Because Stardock owns the current rights to the series and is developing a new installment, we took the description of this as a "passion project" from the developers of the first two Star Control games to mean it is not an official installment in the series. It turns out that's not correct, as they say their newly revealed game is a direct sequel to Star Control II: The Ur-Quan Masters. Here's the statement of Fred and Bob, which raises some questions of its own, but sets the record straight:

We have never had a business relationship with Stardock and are creating independently a direct sequel to our 1992 game, Star Control® II -- The Ur-Quan Masters. We are doing this outside of Toys for Bob (per the Gamasutra article) as a passion project.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare DLC and Halloween Event Launch

Activision announces the Retribution DLC is now available for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare for Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. They are also kicking off Willard Wyler’s Halloween Scream, a special holiday event offering new gear and content through the end of the month. Here's a multiplayer trailer, here's a zombies trailer, and here's word:

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Retribution, the fourth DLC Map Pack for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, is available now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Published by Activision and developed by Infinity Ward, Retribution features four new multiplayer maps, and the highly-anticipated culmination of the Infinite Warfare zombies storyline called “The Beast from Beyond,” which takes players to an abandoned military base on a distant ice planet to fight the undead.

Retribution presents the conclusion to the five-part Infinite Warfare zombies experience, The Beast from Beyond. The thrilling co-op mode features the return of Willard Wyler, the enigmatic movie director villain portrayed with voice and likeness by Paul Reubens (Pee-wee’s Big Holiday, Gotham). Wyler has now taken our four protagonists to a desolate military space station on a distant ice planet, where they’ll battle hordes of the undead, along with an enemy breed longtime Call of Duty fans will recognize, to uncover the real truth behind Wyler and his horror films. The Beast from Beyond also features new weapons, imaginative traps and more, in addition to the hallmark, frenetic Call of Duty action, with Seth Green (Robot Chicken, Austin Powers) as "Poindexter;" Ike Barinholtz (Neighbors, Suicide Squad) as "AJ;" Jay Pharoah (White Famous, Saturday Night Live) as "Andre;" and Sasheer Zamata (Saturday Night Live, Inside Amy Schumer) as "Sally," all making a return from the previous installments.

Warframe Plains of Eidolon Takes Off

Digital Extremes announces the launch of the Plains of Eidolon expansion for Warframe, their third-person shooter. This is for the Windows edition on Steam, and will come to consoles later this year. The add-on, like the base game, is free to play, and word is it adds "a lively new territory to explore, a 10-story high boss to combat, new weapons, items and armor to upgrade and customize, a unique Warframe to play, all while introducing a significant, original chapter in the game's ever-expanding lore." Here's a Gara Warframe Profile along with more details:

Plains of Eidolon is the first-of-its kind Landscape for Warframe. The Open Zone design offers kilometers of colorful rolling hills and pastures, lively lakes and rivers, active mines and caves, all during a continual diurnal/nocturnal cycle for Tenno to soak up and enjoy. As many as 50 players can converge on the makeshift basecamp of Cetus, where the race of the Ostrons offer missions and challenges, and new weapons, armor and items to craft and customize to a degree never before realized in Warframe.

During the relative safety of day, whether on foot or soaring through the air (using the revamped Sky Archwing), Tenno will clash with new and old Grineer, partake in mini-games such as spearfishing and mining, and partner up with as many as three others to explore the Plains. At night, danger surfaces from the waters and haunts the storied grounds. Only the bravest and best equipped teams will venture forth in their crash-course hunt for the massive Eidolon, a towering monstrosity lured to consciousness in search of something dangerous and mysterious.

That's just the beginning! Plains of Eidolon introduces an incredible array of fresh content. The range starts with a new glass-themed Warframe, Gara, with new weapons to wield and fashionable Syandanas and Helmets to don, a newly reworked Focus System for Operators to use in conjunction with Warframes to battle Eidolon at night, and a slew of additional content from the Mag Pneuma Collection, to new Mod sets, Achievements, stances, and more.

Out of the Blue

I had a scratchy nose and throat last night, and was worried I'd wake up today with a cold. Instead I awoke to a sore throat that made it very painful to swallow. I remember getting sore throats as a kid that were not part of larger colds, but I'm not sure that's happened since my troublesome adenoids were removed. But I certainly hope this is indeed just isolated to my throat, as nobody needs the misery of a cold. I guess I'll just gargle a lot and keep my fingers crossed.
