New Radeon Drivers

AMD Support now offers new Radeon Software Crimson ReLive Edition 17.10.1 drivers for AMD graphics cards. We're currently getting an error message accessing the release notes, so we'll copy the highlights from our chill friends at Hypothermia:

Fixed Issues

  • Bezel compensation in mixed mode Eyefinity cannot be applied.
  • DiRT 4™ may experience flickering tire graphics during gameplay or under certain terrain conditions when using Multi GPU enabled system configurations.

Known Issues

  • On Windows®7 when using Radeon RX Vega series graphics in Multi GPU system configurations, users may experience a system hang or crash when upgrading their installation of Radeon Software. A work around is to do a clean install of Radeon Software.
  • Corruption may be experienced in Forza Motorsport™ 7 on some HDR displays with HDR enabled in game.
  • Unstable Radeon WattMan profiles may not be restored to default after a system hang. A workaround is to launch Radeon WattMan after reboot and restore settings to default.
  • Wattman may fail to apply user adjusted voltage values on certain configurations.
  • Radeon Settings may not populate game profiles after Radeon Software's initial install.
  • Overwatch™ may experience a random or intermittent hang on some system configurations.
  • GPU Scaling may fail to work on some DirectX®11 applications.
  • Secondary displays may show corruption or green screen when the display/system enters sleep or hibernate with content playing.
  • When recording with Radeon ReLive on Radeon RX Vega Series graphics products GPU usage and clocks may remain in high states. A workaround is to disable and then re-enable Radeon ReLive.

The Orange Box Turns 10

The Team Fortress 2 blog notes the 10th anniversary of the original release of The Orange Box, which bundled Half-Life 2: Episode 2, Team Fortress 2, and Portal all on one package, as games used to be distributed in places called stores on these things called DVDs. True to the blog, the post focuses on TF2, though they also reveal that Valve was never happy with how The Orange Box was marketed at the time. Speaking of unhappiness with how things were marketed, there's this little matter of being promised a three-part episodic expansion for Half-Life 2 that's gone without a part three for a decade now, but we're not getting our hopes up that we'll ever hear anything more about this, much less ever get to actually play it.

Assassin's Creed Origins Season Pass and Free Content Outlined

UbiBlog has a roadmap of content coming to Assassin's Creed Origins, covering both the DLC for the game's season pass, as well as free content for the base game. This trailer illustrates the news, and here are the details:

SEASON PASS

The Hidden Ones (DLC 1)
– This expansion takes place years after the events of Assassin’s Creed Origins in a new region occupied by a Roman force. Bayek and the new Assassins will clash with the Romans as the Brotherhood continues to grow, and players will have a new level cap. Slated for release in January 2018.

The Curse of the Pharaohs (DLC 2) – The second expansion focuses on Egyptian mythology, pitting players against undead pharaohs and famed Egyptian monsters. Bayek will need to explore a mystical new realm and discover the root of the curse that has brought these creatures to life. This expansion will also raise the level cap again and introduce new skills for Bayek. Scheduled for a March 2018 launch.

The Roman Centurion and Horus packs – These exclusive item packs will grant Season Pass holders a new outfit, weapons, shield, and mount when they become available in November of this year.

500 Helix Credits and an exclusive rare weapon, the Calamity Blade – Both available at launch.

To gain access to all of the above, players will need to own the Season Pass, which is included in Assassin’s Creed Origins Gold Edition and is also available for purchase separately.

FREE CONTENT

There is also a bevy of new additions coming to the game after launch that will be free for all players, including:

The Trial of the Gods – Face off against the Egyptian gods in boss battles during special timed events, and receive valuable rewards for victory. Kicks off 15 days after launch.

The Nomad’s Bazaar – Track down a wandering merchant who will give you daily quests to pursue and reward you with exotic mystery rewards. Available at launch.

Photo Mode – Capture the beauty of the Egyptian landscape, indulge your inner wildlife photographer, and discover interesting photos taken by other players. Available at launch.

Sudden Strike 4: The Road to Dunkirk This Month

Kalypso Media announces The Road to Dunkirk, the first DLC coming to Sudden Strike 4, their real-time military tactics game. Fans of the game won't have long to wait, either, as they say this is coming to Windows, macOS, Linux, and PlayStation 4 on October 20th. Here's an announcement trailer with a look at gameplay, and here are the details on all this adds:

Following on from the successful launch of Sudden Strike 4 on Windows, Linux, Mac and PlayStation®4, Kalypso Media is excited to reveal the first official DLC expansion for its WW2 strategy heavyweight. Sudden Strike 4: The Road to Dunkirk will launch for Windows PC, Linux, Mac and PlayStation®4 via digital distribution platforms on October 20. The DLC offers four new singleplayer missions based around one of the most intense and dramatic conflicts in the entire war, as the Allied forces made a desperate bid to rescue British, French and Belgian troops trapped in the eponymous French town, surrounded by the German army with seemingly no hope for escape.

In the German side of the campaign, players must break through the French defenses in the Battle of Lille to capture the town of Dunkirk and ultimately hunt down and destroy a British battleship. In the Allied campaign, players will launch a counter-offensive during the Battle of Ypres-Comines and attempt to evacuate as many soldiers as possible during Operation Dynamo itself. To aid in the battle, players will have two new commanders to choose from: French war hero Charles de Gaulle and British Expeditionary Force division commander Harold Alexander, further adding to your strategic options for each mission.

Last but not least, Sudden Strike 4: Road to Dunkirk will also see the introduction of 10 all-new units for players to deploy, including the German SIG 33 Bison artillery, the French Char B1 heavy tank, the British A10 Cruiser Mk. II medium tank and destroyer HMS Ivanhoe.

ARKTIKA.1 Released

4A Games now offers ARKTIKA.1, the first virtual reality shooter from the developer of the Metro series. This is available for Oculus Rift in the Oculus Store, and there's also an ebook on Amazon called ARKTIKA.1: My Name is Viktoria. Here's the launch trailer, and here are the details, though they don't clarify whether this is pronounced as point one, dot one, or what:

HUMANITY’S LAST BEST HOPE
In ARKTIKA.1, barbaric raiders and mutated cannibals push humanity to the brink during the Great Freeze, a man-made ice age. Survival is far from guaranteed – and only customizable weaponry and tactical thinking stand between you and a very cold grave.

Nearly a century into the future, only the equatorial regions remain habitable, yet pockets of humanity still manage to survive in small numbers all over the planet. These regions of civilization sit on resource-rich, highly desirable territories to the north and south. As a mercenary hired by Citadel Security, you must protect one of the last colonies in the wastelands of old Russia from invading forces bent on the extinction of the human race as we know it.

ARMAMENT & MOVEMENT
Every weapon in ARKTIKA.1 shares a modular design. You can assemble unique variants by mixing and matching accessories on top of basic “frames”: antiques, railguns – and even weapons able to shoot around corners! It’s important to choose the right tool for the job: Horrifying creatures and violent offenders who once lurked outside the city walls have found a way in, and they’ll do whatever it takes to eliminate Citadel Security and anyone who lives in the colony.

Each playfield offers plenty of space to move around in – allowing for strategic positioning and increased immersion. The game’s advanced cover system takes flanking maneuvers to a whole new level: Enemies can easily tear your cover into tiny little pieces and even outflank you! The possibilities are nearly endless; in-game objects like interactive car doors can be used to stay alive just a little longer and gain an advantage over the opposition.

Crusader Kings II: Jade Dragon Trailer

A new trailer from Crusader Kings II - Jade Dragon offers a feature breakdown for this expansion from Henrik Fahraeus, Game Director on Crusader Kings II. Paradox also takes the occasion to reveal the $14.99 USD list price for the add-on, which is expected later this fall. Here are details on the video and the expansion:

His most grand and royal eminence, the Emperor of China, has sent an ambassador with intelligence on what to expect once you make his acquaintance in Crusader Kings II: Jade Dragon. In a new feature video from Paradox Development Studio, Henrik Fahraeus, the Game Director for Crusader Kings II goes through some of the changes and new systems coming in Jade Dragon, the newest update to Paradox’s best-selling medieval strategy game.

Jade Dragon expands on Crusader Kings II by introducing the power of a meddling foreign emperor, whose great energies cannot be contained in China alone. Can you channel this imperial ambition to bolster your own kingdom? Maybe you will become strong enough to claim the Middle Kingdom for your own dynasty.

Dirt Rally for macOS This Year

Feral Interactive announces plans to release a macOS edition of Dirt Rally later this year:

Feral Interactive announced today that DiRT Rally®, the acclaimed rally simulation game, will be released for macOS later this year. Developed and published by Codemasters for Windows and consoles, DiRT Rally has been praised for its realistic handling and pure focus on rally driving. DiRT Rally will support Metal 2, Apple’s latest graphics API.

DiRT Rally is the most authentic rally game ever made, with a highly sophisticated handling model that perfectly captures the exhilaration of driving cars at the edge of control while tearing along treacherous, undulating tracks at breakneck speed. Its high-risk, high-reward gameplay challenges players to learn and master three different disciplines: the point-to-point races of Rally, the tight circuits of Rallycross, and the legendary slopes of Hillclimb.

Players will hurtle down the most dangerous tracks in the world, from the crumbling hillsides of Greece to the icy forest trails of Sweden and on to the rain-drenched dirt roads of the Welsh countryside. As they get to grips with rain, snow and fog as well as hairpin bends, slippery asphalt and loose gravel, players will fine-tune their cars to suit the terrain, weather and their own driving style.

DiRT Rally puts players behind the wheel of over 45 of the most iconic cars from the 1980s to the present day, including the MINI Cooper S, Peugeot 205 T16 Evo 2 and the Lancia Delta S4 from the celebrated Group B era of rally racing.

“DiRT Rally offers players a thrilling, mud-splattered racing experience, but under the bonnet, it’s a meticulously-crafted game,” said David Stephen, Managing Director of Feral Interactive. “As they tweak the brake bias and gear ratios of their cars, and take their skill and concentration to the limit on every combination of road surface and weather condition, players will discover a great game that’s driven by detail.”

DiRT Rally for macOS will be available from the Feral Store and Steam for $59.99/£39.99/€49.99, and from the Mac App Store for $44.99/£43.99/€49.99.

System requirements will be confirmed closer to release.

Blizzard Internship Hints at New Overwatch Project

A new Blizzard Careers post has raised speculation that the company may be gearing up to create a new Overwatch game (thanks VG247). This is for a Generalist Art Intern, however, not a paid position, so it seems an odd starting point for a AAA developer and franchise. But they do say this is for an "unannounced project at Blizzard" and under recommended talents they list "Knowledge and understanding of the Overwatch universe" as a plus, so there's that. They list this as an 11-12 week full time project, and indicate this will run through summer 2018, so we may not learn more about this for some time.

Star Wars: Battlefront II Beta Extended

EA tweets that the open beta for Star Wars: Battlefront II that began on Friday is being extended for two days. They don't say why they decided to expand the scope of the beta, though at least one interesting theory is floating around (thanks Ant).
