More VR Resources from Valve

Valve announces the release of resources to help hardware manufacturers to create better virtual reality headsets. This page has all the details on this technology, and the announcement gives an overview:

Valve, creator of Steam and SteamVR, a leading platform for games and virtual reality (VR) applications, today announced the availability of new core components needed by VR hardware manufacturers to deliver best in class VR systems.

Complementing the existing free license for sub-millimeter room-scale tracking and input technology, today's news marks the addition of other critical pieces for developing state-of-the-art VR hardware: an advanced optical system, manufacturing and calibration tools, and the supporting software stack to unify the hardware into an optimal user experience.

"World class VR requires highly precise tracking, matched optics and display technologies, and a software stack that weaves together the interactions between these components," said Jeremy Selan of Valve. "For the first time, we're making all of these technologies available to anyone who wants to build a best in class VR system for the millions of Steam customers accessing over 2,000 SteamVR compatible titles."

New GeForce Drivers

The GeForce website now offers new GeForce Game Ready 387.92 WHQL drivers, saying these are optimized for Arktika.1, The Evil Within 2, Forza Motorsport 7, and Middle-earth: Shadow of War. They are pretty all in on Shadow of War's release tomorrow, as they also offer this article with word on all the NVIDIA features supported by the action/RPG, including Ansel, HDR, and SLI. They also offer the opportunity to profit from that Ansel support, as they are running a Shadow of War NVIDIA Ansel Contest with the chance to win a GeForce GTX 1080 Ti graphics card.

On CoD: WWII Beta Detail Leaks

A post on Charlie Intel has a reaction from Sledgehammer Games about leaked Weapons List, Maps, Divisions and More as well as Zombies Info from the Call of Duty: WWII beta. Here's word, which comes along with a couple of screenshots:

From Michael Condrey, Co-Studio Head of Sledgehammer Games:

“Call of Duty: WWII has been in development for nearly three years, and we’re now less than a month before launch. We can’t wait for fans to experience it on November 3rd. With Betas, there’s always the risk that some people will try and spoil that experience for others. We have had a couple things leak recently across multiplayer and zombies. It’s disappointing for everyone involved in creating the game. But, in the spirit of transparency, we want to be up front about it. Some of the details were inaccurate, early, or still subject to change. Others we would consider spoilers. We never plan for leaks, but we also understand that it’s hard for fans not to read the news when it’s about something they are so excited to learn more about.”

Michael Condrey also talked about the recent MP leaks from the Call of Duty: WWII PC beta, including the new Gridiron MP mode, which is going to be SHG’s boots on the ground take of Uplink mode.

“We are super proud of the game and cannot wait to play it with the community, so please hang on for a bit as November 3rd is almost here. In the meantime, here’s a first look at our London map in multiplayer. It’s a studio favorite for domination, hardpoint, and TDM, and we think it could be a standout for the competitive season ahead. Also, it’s a lot of fun for the new Gridiron game mode coming at launch, here’s a taste.”

New PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS Player Record

The Steam Game and Player Statistics Page reveals the latest milestone for PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS, showing the battle royale game has raised its record for concurrent Steam users to just shy of the two million mark. This stands at 1,963,080 for the moment, but the current player count is so close to that it seems likely this will manage to break that two million plateau soon. Just a few weeks ago the game beat Valve's Dota 2's Steam record with 1.3 million peak concurrent users, and it has shown no signs of slowing down. Thanks Kotaku Australia.
