Total War: WARHAMMER 2 Dark Elves Video

A new let's play trailer from Total War: WARHAMMER 2 offers a look at the Dark Elves in action from the upcoming fantasy strategy sequel. Here's word on this clip as well as what's led up to it:

Our Total War: WARHAMMER II Dark Elves let's play concludes today as Malekith the Witch King launches a wicked attack on his most hated enemy, the High Elves.

As we dive from the campaign game into battle, we see the beating heart of the Dark Elf war machine. Their lust for slaughter is personified in the unique trait Murderous Prowess; as the body-count mounts, the Dark Elves hit fever-pitch and enter a maniac kill-state.

You'll see a wide array of units from the Dark Elf roster, including the sensational flame-spewing Hydra, plus a first look at the Moon Dragon fielded by the High Elves.

In yesterday's campaign let's play, we prepared by steering a Dark Elf Black Ark into support range. Watch as we call down its earth-shaking bombardments on the enemy mid-battle, disrupting and demoralising the High Elf lines.

If you missed yesterday's video detailing the unique campaign mechanics and black-hearted playstyle of the Dark Elves, watch it here – and watch it first for the best effect!

Total War: WARHAMMER II releases on 28th September this year and is available for pre-order now through Steam:

Half-Life 2: Episode 3 Story Revealed?

In a surprise move, a post on from former Valve writer Marc Laidlaw offers long-suffering Half-Life fans some closure with a general story outline of Half-Life 2: Episode 3, giving a sense for how the unfinished DLC trilogy was supposed to conclude (thanks MeanJim). It's not clear if this is authorized, as the names of the characters are all changed, presumably to protect the guilty (the post is written from the PoV of Gertrude Fremont, Ph.D). Further, the site is now returning "connection refused" errors, but this may simply be due the server being overwhelmed by demand, but the Internet Wayback Machine has a cached copy. Also, addressing both the site's difficulties and the name alterations, the article is now also preserved on GitHub with all the names properly replaced with Valve's IP, which possibly puts the post in more jeopardy of being shut down. Thanks Valve News Network.

Pre-installation will become available at 1:00 pm EDT through Blizzard's for everyone, while those who preordered the game have an additional code to redeem to get their access to this one day early on Monday. The post also includes more videos from demonstrating the shooter sequel at Gamescom, including an Official European Dead Zone video showing off a previously unseen area. There are also new character intros in a Meet Cayde-6 video, and a Meet Hawthorne video. They also include a primer on the game's controls for beta testers, noting they can be remapped, but also showing Bungie's console roots with a cute keymap of the defaults, including a diagram of where to find your WASD keys. Here's the plan:

Only 4 more sleeps until you can play Destiny for the first time on your own personal computer. For players with early access (via pre-order or code), the ability to pre-install the Beta begins on Friday, August 25 at 10 AM Pacific Time. To pre-install, you must go to Blizzard’s app and click the big “Install” button. If you pre-ordered at retail, take the Bungie code you got from your retailer and go to to get your PC Beta early access code.

Before you jump in, you might want to take some time to get familiar with how you’ll control your Guardian and let loose your wide arsenal of weapons and abilities on any enemies foolish enough to stand in your way. To get you started early, we’ve created a quick image to show the default controls for Mouse and Keyboard on the PC.

Secret of Mana Remake Plans

A new announcement trailer reveals a 3D remake of Secret of Mana is in the works, which Square Enix says will come to Steam, PlayStation 4, and PS Vita on February 15, 2018.

The Wikipedia has a history lesson on the 16-bit version, first released in 1993, and the PlayStation Blog has details on the project, calling the original "one of the greatest RPGs of all time." Here's word on the remake:

The game will faithfully adapt the beloved story and top-down gameplay while adopting modern 3D graphics and controls. Meaning that the game has been fully rebuilt from the ground up, but still remains true to the whimsical gameplay of the original. In this new remake, you can expect the great game all your friends have been saying you missed out on, reborn.

After playing the original, watching this trailer hits me right in the nostalgic feels… EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. So, if you’re like me and played the classic version, but wonder what new things you can look forward to outside of the completely revamped 3D graphics and updated gameplay:

  1. VOICED CHARACTERS: That’s right, you heard Randi in the trailer and you’ll finally get to hear Randi, Primm, Popoi and many other characters talk and express themselves throughout their adventure!
  2. To add to that, the game will have language options which will allow players to experience the game using Japanese voices and/or subtitles. A NEWLY ARRANGED SOUNDTRACK: We’re excited for you to hear a beautiful, newly arranged soundtrack that pays tribute to the original.
  3. LOCAL MULTIPLAYER: Yes! Sit down with two of your friends (up to three players) to experience the adventure together.

Out of the Blue

I'm getting set to make a little further progress on getting the BlueTower onto the market today, as I took delivery on a new desk. Getting new furniture is not ideal just weeks before you plan to move, but I need to set up my workspace back in my office to show the house, and my old desk wasn't going to work with this, so this is what I've got. The good news is that I will be able to set this up with proper ergonomics... I am currently perched over a little sewing table, using one of the drawers for my keyboard and another for my mousepad. If this sounds uncomfortable, it's because it is. The scary thing is I've adjusted to it, so I wonder if going back to a normal setup will be an adjustment too? Either way, that's a risk I'm willing to take.
