Dying Light's Year+ Free DLC Deluge

Techland announces plans to support Dying Light with the release than no fewer than 10 free DLC packs a span of 12 months that will begin later this year. There is actually an 11th free pack in the plan, but this will come before the clock starts on this one-year plan. As they explain it, "The first new content for Dying Light - labelled Content Drop #0 - will launch for free in the coming weeks with the focus on new enemies. This Drop #0 is a taste of the new things coming to the game, before the '10 free DLCs in 12 months' campaign fully launches later this year." Here is further word from the developer on the plan:
Almost three years after the original Dying Light was released, about half a million people still play the game every week. In the very first months on the market in 2015, the weekly numbers were around 700 000. This shows that our community is still huge, active, and craving for more. Not a single day passes without requests for new weapons, outfits, and quests. In the face of such enthusiasm and engagement, we cannot keep quiet. Today I’m happy to announce Techland’s continuous support for Dying Light.

Original content is already in the works and our fans can expect to face new challenging enemies, master new gameplay mechanics, solve more Harran mysteries, and even explore never-seen-before locations. This translates to ten pieces of DLC in the first twelve months of our continuous support - available free for all players, across all platforms.

Continuous support means also more updates, gameplay tweaks, and community events. As we firmly believe in active collaboration between the design team and players, we hope this announcement will encourage our fans to share their thoughts, stories, and ideas about how we can improve their experience even more.

As always we are all ears,
Paweł Marchewka,
Techland CEO

Vidar, Vidi, Vici

Vidar is now out of early access and in full release on Steam, offering a throwback RPG for Windows, macOS, and Linux. The description of the game shows an emphasis on replayability:
Vidar is Dying
In the middle of a blizzard, a community's remaining citizens are forced to confront their impending deaths. Every night, a villager is killed, and the survivors are forced to alter their course in response. Chart a path through always-changing, challenging environmental puzzles, and explore the stories and grief of these townsfolk before Vidar is lost forever.

A Random Story Every Time
In Vidar, every villager has heavily interdependent relationships with the others. When one person dies, everyone else’s stories change - if the blacksmith loses her apprentice, she’ll give you different quests; if the blacksmith loses her supplier, still different; and if she predeceases both, then those two will respond accordingly, etc. Because the order of deaths is random, the story and quests you receive will be different every time you play.

New Challenges to Overcome
To stop the killings you’ll need to enter a puzzle dungeon. Use your tools and your environment to help navigate to the center of the cave before everyone in town is dead. These puzzles are also randomly chosen from a bank of hundreds, so that when you come back to see a new story unfold, you’ll also face a new challenge.

Europa Universalis IV and Hearts of Iron IV DLC

Paradox Interactive offers a two-for-one announcement with the news that new DLC packs are now available for Europa Universalis IV and Hearts of Iron IV, as promised earlier this month. This trailer shows off the Third Rome pack that's now available for Europa Universalis IV, their grand strategy sequel, and this one shows off the Death or Dishonor add-on for Hearts of Iron IV, the World War II RTS sequel. And since they were announced and released together, it follows that the two DLCs for two different games are also being offered as a bundle, as well as individually. Here's the double announcement:
Paradox Interactive, a publisher and developer that’s never rushin’ out its games, today released new content for two of its best-selling Grand Strategy games, both focused on the nations of Eastern Europe during different, formative periods in history. Third Rome, a new immersion pack for Europa Universalis IV, adds new gameplay features for the Russian empire, and is available for $9.99. Death or Dishonor, a new country pack for Hearts of Iron IV, brings new events and national focuses to the nations bordering the Soviet Union during World War II – Romania, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, and Yugoslavia – and is available as well for $9.99. The two packs can also be purchased together in a discounted bundle for $17.98. Both packs are available today for Windows, Mac, and Linux PCs.

In Third Rome, players will find new means to wield spiritual, political, and military control in the Russian empire, with new ranks of government and unique military units. Features include:

  • Tsardoms and Principalities: New ranks of Russian government with new abilities and, for Tsars, strong bonuses including the right to claim entire States – not just provinces.
  • Iconography: Commission great religious icons for the Orthodox church, boosting your empire’s power depending on the saint you choose to revere.
  • Siberian Frontier: Russian nations can slowly colonize uninhabited border regions, with no fear of native uprisings

Meanwhile, in Death or Dishonor, the Soviets lie on your eastern borders while the Axis march forth from the west. Players will have to find ways to come out of the war with their lives and/or their dignity intact. Features include:

  • Four New Focus Trees: Experience the war from the difficult perspectives of Hungary, Romania, Czechoslovakia, and Yugoslavia.
  • Equipment Conversion: Update your arsenal by converting older units -- or make use of captured enemy vehicles and gear.
  • New Diplomatic and Puppet Interactions: License military technology to bring other nations’ weapons to the field or sell your advances to the highest bidder.

Quake Champions BJ Blazkowicz Trailer

Bethesda Softworks offers a new trailer from Quake Champions, id Software's upcoming first-person shooter. The clip offers a look at Wolfenstein protagonist BJ Blazkowicz, who was recently unveiled as one of the game's characters. Bethesda.net has more on the only sfw BJ video you'll watch today:
William Joseph “BJ” Blazkowicz had a glowing track record as the Office of Secret Actions’ (OSA) top agent. As part of this joint American-British agency, he helped thwart numerous German Regime techno-occult initiatives during World War II, including that of the Regime high officer Deathshead and his doomsday weapon. Deathshead planned to harness the power of the Black Sun Dimension to power his ultimate weapon, but was single-handedly stopped by BJ, who entered this strange alternate plane of reality to destroy the apparatus that would be the doomsday device’s power source.

During his mission, an explosion knocked BJ unconscious and rendered him comatose for 14 years while the battle continued to rage on in the world around him. When he finally awoke, he found that the world had moved on without him. The Regime had conquered the globe and was quashing any rebellions as quickly as they could form. BJ swore to assemble a Resistance force to wipe out the Regime, ending their reign of tyranny once and for all.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus Trailer

Bethesda.net also offers a new Gunning For Freedom trailer (NSFW) from Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus with another chance to see BJ Blazkowicz in action. The clip also features the developers at MachineGames discussing all that's going into the alternate history shooter. Here's word:
MachineGames isn’t just known for their strong storytelling. They’re also a powerhouse in the realm of pure gameplay. And their latest game is no different. Announced at the Bethesda E3 2017 Showcase, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus delivers the goods when it comes to intense – and intensely fun – shooter action.

“What really puts MachineGames on the map is that while we’re making really strong narrative games, we give enough room to have the proper gameplay experience,” says Senior Game Designer Arcade Berg. “It’s not that one is overpowering the other.”

From upgraded weapons to enhanced dual-wielding to bumped-up Nazi enemies, watch our latest video – with exclusive insights from the development team – for a first look at what’s new in The New Colossus.

While the gameplay has been taken to the next level for the latest chapter in BJ Blazkowicz’s saga, the goal remains the same: Obliterate the abhorrent Nazi regime. Which, of course, is all the motivation you’ll need to rally the resistance and liberate America. “They’re the perfect enemy,” says Executive Producer Jerk Gustafsson. “I mean, who doesn’t want to kill Nazis?”

But even with the futuristic technology and over-the-top action, The New Colossus will still make you feel like a real-world hero. “No matter how crazy things get, you are always emotionally invested in what you’re doing,” says Creative Director Jens Matthies. “For this game, our theme was catharsis. So at the end of it, I think you will be ready to go out on the streets and start a revolution.”

Insurgency: Sandstorm is the sequel to multi-million selling Insurgency by developers New World Interactive.

Designed to retain what made Insurgency great, and build upon it, the FPS epic comes enhanced and expanded as a new game in Insurgency: Sandstorm, coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. It will come with the addition of a host of new modes and content to be revealed later, including a new Story Mode. This story is playable cooperatively as a squad of up to four players (two player split-screen) or alone, and is explored in the E3 Trailer.

In Insurgency: Sandstorm’s Story Mode, players will travel as a party cut off from support across a war-torn landscape on a new mission that is deeply personal.

The trailer is narrated by one of the main characters in the game, a U.S. Army veteran turned volunteer soldier, who finds himself on an unexpected journey alongside a female fighter native to the region and a few other characters yet to be introduced. Their objectives have aligned, and their vision of the war blurred as it touches each of them in different but converging ways.

Like Insurgency, the gameplay of Sandstorm rewards teamwork and objective-play over personal success. Players will see new features such as drivable light vehicles, character customization, unlockable cosmetic items, fire support requests, ranked matchmaking, and more.

Out of the Blue

Our bathroom renovation is moving along towards its conclusion. The tiles are all done, and the vanity is mostly installed. Right now the guy is here reglazing the tub. This six-foot monster is the only part of the old bathroom we're keeping, so hopefully it comes out okay. I've heard mixed things about tub-reglazing, but I'm feeling optimistic right now, as it looks really nice after just his preliminary prep work. We shall see.
