Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series Launches

Telltale Games announces the release of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series, their episodic series based on the comic book movies. The launch trailer came out yesterday, and now the first chapter in the five episode series is now available. Here's a reminder about the game:

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series is a brand-new story of the universe's unlikeliest Super Heroes: Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot. In the wake of an epic battle, the Guardians discover an artifact of unspeakable power. Each of them has a reason to desire this relic, as does a ruthless enemy who is the last of her kind, and who will stop at nothing to tear it from their hands.

From Earth to the Milano to Knowhere and beyond, and set to the beat of awesome music, you wear the rocket-powered boots of Star-Lord in an original Guardians adventure, where your decisions and actions drive the story you experience.

The series will feature a star-studded cast of voice talent, including Scott Porter (Friday Night Lights, The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series) as Star-Lord, Emily O'Brien (The Young and the Restless, Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor) as Gamora, Nolan North (the Uncharted series, Pretty Little Liars) as Rocket, Brandon Paul Eells (Watch Dogs) as Drax, and Adam Harrington (The Wolf Among Us, League of Legends) as Groot.

Shiness: The Lighting Kingdom Released

French indie studio Enigami announces the release of Shiness: The Lighting Kingdom, their action/RPG for Windows, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. A new launch trailer offers a look, and the announcement has details on the game's crowdfunded origins and more of what to expect:

The Shiness universe was born over 20 years ago from the pen strokes of Samir Rebib, Artistic Director of the studio. Composed of passionate people, the independent studio Enigami went through a successful Kickstarter campaign, allowing the project to grow and gain momentum, until it was supported by Focus Home Interactive. After Enigami put all its energy and passion into Shiness, a child's dream has finally turned a fully-fleshed indie-RPG with a bold personality!

In Shiness, take control of Chado and his four friends as they journey across a fractured world beset by a war between multiple factions. Combat is inspired by traditional fighting games, mixing fast-paced combos, parrying, blocking, and powerful magical abilities distinct for each character. Your party members' usefulness isn't limited to just combat - manipulate the environments around you with abilities such as Kayenne's telekinesis and Askel's far-reaching whip. Gain experience and level up after fights, while progressing in the storyline or by accomplishing numerous side quests. Evolve your characters, learn new skills and spells, and become the hero who will unify the civilizations of Mahera.

Gone Gold - The Surge

Focus Home Interactive announce completion of development on The Surge, saying Deck13's hardcore action/RPG will come to Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on May 16th. They also talk about a day one patch for the PS4 Pro to support dynamic 4K at 30fps or in 1080p at 60fps, and another patch will follow with HDR support, but they don't clarify what this means for PC gamers. Here's word on the game:

Set in a heavily dystopian future as Earth nears the end of its life, those who remain in the overpopulated cities must work to survive as social programs become saturated by an ageing population and increasing environmental diseases. As the intelligence of technology incrementally increased over the years, many jobs for the human race had been made redundant, forcing Earth's citizens to head out into the suburbs seeking labor, aided by exoskeletons to improve their efficiency. The world of The Surge offers a very grim vision of the future, where the evolution of our technology, our society and our relation with the environment led to a decadent state of the Human civilization. The Surge features innovative combat mechanics and an original character progression system based on modular upgrades gained through tight, visceral combat.

Key Features

  • Tight, visceral hardcore action RPG combat
  • Unique targeting, dismemberment and level up systems
  • Explore a dystopian world full of mystery
  • Battle an array of huge, fearsome bosses
  • Loot, craft, and upgrade new weapons and armors

Out of the Blue

Well, "happy" tax day here in the States, where everyone has until midnight to ensure their papers are in order. This normally takes place quite infamously on April 15th, but the 15th falling on a Saturday pushes the deadline out a few days. For the most part nobody looks forward to this, but if the quote usually attributed to Benjamin Franklin about the inevitability of death and taxes is true, then it beats the alternative.

Tomorrow will see the release of episode one of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series. Telltale paves the way with this trailer offering a look at "Tangled Up in Blue," the tastefully titled first chapter. They also offer more on what to expect:

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series is a brand new story of the universe's unlikeliest Super Heroes: Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot. Heroes of the Storm Getting Overwatch's Genji and Hanamura

A new hero profile on the Heroes of the Storm website confirms Genji from Overwatch is making his way into Heroes of the Storm. They outline his kit in the MOBA, which is unsurprisingly similar to his original form in the shooter. They also offer this new trailer from Hanamura, a new two-lane map that's on the way. There's a location of the same name in Overwatch, but that is a trio of assault maps, while the Heroes of the Storm version of Hanamura borrows Overwatch's escort mechanic, providing each team a vehicle to deliver, which is how to damage your opponent's core. Word is: "Harness the power of explosive payloads as you vie for control of the Shimada clan’s ancestral home – Hanamura! Introducing new mercenaries, new objectives, and a brand new battleground theme to the Nexus, Hanamura is the next battleground hitting the Nexus in Heroes of the Storm 2.0!" BloodLust 2 - Nemesis Announced

The BloodLust website announces BloodLust 2 - Nemesis, an action/RPG coming from WRF Studios where the player is a vampire (thanks RPGWatch via Acleacius). They provide this trailer with a look at what to expect, and here's a bit on the story, though this may spoil the first game:

"After the Hunter killed an emperor to the east and destroyed an entire bloodline, the Council felt the playing field between the humans and the undead might be a little too even."

"They authorized the development of an experimental food source; a synthetic blood built from both alchemy and science. The project is funded and developed by the Taku Clan, under the codename NEMESIS. Neural Embryonic Morphing Experimental Synthetic Immune System something or other."

"I guess its supposed to be better than the real thing, I don't really know, I never touched it, since I prefer my blood warm and dirty."

"But I've seen its strength, replicating and enhancing the cells of the undead, allowing our species to morph into even stronger creatures, making us more monstrous than we already are."
