Clockwork Empires Released

Clockwork Empires is now available like clockwork on Steam for Windows and OS X. The steampunk construction game was in early access, and this post has details on all that's changed in version 1.0. It also outlines plans for post-release support, promising UI improvements, balance changes, achievements, and more. Here's the deal on the game:
It's now up to you to ensure the success of frontier colonies populated by ambitious overseers, brave soldiers, and oppressed labourers who work and live in workshops, mines, scientific laboratories, lavishly decorated houses, farms, chapels, pubs, and more. But be wary - every colonist is a unique simulated individual with their own personality, motivation, secrets, and peculiar desires which must be satisfied lest they invite Terrible Consequences ranging from occult ritual to delicious cannibalism. Ha ha, video games!

Eager test subjects have spent many months toiling for The Empire as the game underwent Incredible Renovations of Fabulous Extremity™ in Steam Early Access, and now colonial bureaucrats everywhere may seek fame & adventure in Clockwork Empires. Players are transported into a marvelously odd steampunk frontier as a Junior Bureaucrat (Colonial Grade) sent forth by the Clockwork Empire to build a new colony from scratch. Players design buildings and their contents from the ground-up to feed the Ravenous Maw of Industry, manage the uniquely unruly population, and must make Important Decisions when the Occult Investigator shows up for a surprise inspection.

When terrible things go Too Far, eldritch Horrors may be unleashed – leaving colonists in chaos, confusion, and occasionally Oddly Transformed amidst burning wreckage, from which only you can save them (maybe). Do your job well, or let it all crumble into a pile of misery and start over in the next spot over; either way, in true Bureaucratic fashion, you will bring Glory to the Clockwork Empire.

Steam now offers early access to Blast Brawl 2- Bloody Boogaloo, a 2D action/brawler. The twist here is that every single hit counts as a player death. This trailer shows how that works, and here's a bit more:
A fast-paced fighting game where any hit means DEATH! Battle your friends as a vastly diverse selection of characters, experiencing intense combat where every blow earns a kill, and skill reigns supreme. Brawl amidst a huge selection of maps, each set in a post-apocalyptic future and featuring unique elements that can change the face of a battle. And what's victory without a little dance?

Those who survived are now facing a new reality and are forced to scavenge for resources and fight for their lives against the infected and other threats in this new world."

Evening Patches

Op Ed

Engadget - Video games are more important than ever. Thanks Kxmode.
"And songwriting might just be the beginning. With the growing accessibility of high-end living-room consoles and virtual reality headsets, it's easy to imagine a video game on a list of Nobel nominees in the near future. Nowhere was that more apparent than at IndieCade 2016, an annual festival celebrating independent video games held in Los Angeles, California.

"Bob Dylan is an iconic cultural hero because he's transcended his language -- he's actually in a more unique situation than, let's say, a video game, because the video game has the ability to immediately be on your computer, be pretty quickly localized and then become your personal experience," said Navid Khonsari, creator of 1979 Revolution: Black Friday, a powerful narrative-driven adventure game that puts players in the shoes of a photojournalist during the Iranian Revolution. 'So I think that there's great, great potential and possibility [for a game to win a Nobel].'"

New GeForce Drivers

NVIDIA now offers some new version 375.63 WHQL-certified drivers for GeForce accelerators. These come shortly after the release of new version 357.57 drivers last week. The new drivers carry the same patch notes, and are not listed as expected on the front page of the site, so this appears to be a slipstream change to address unidentified problems with the initial release. This page has the Windows 64-bit drivers.

Mordheim: City of the Damned - Undead Released

Focus Home Interactive announces the release of Undead on Steam, a new expansion for Mordheim: City of the Damned, Rogue Factor's RPG. This adds some scary new units to the game, including Vampire, Necromancer, Vampire Thrall, Dreg, Crypt Horror, Ghoul, and Zombie. This requires the original game, and carries a 15% discount for the next week. Here's word:
This Warband adds the Undead, with 7 new unit types and a fully playable campaign featuring unique Dramatis Personae, Katherina von Dernsbach.

On the borders of the Empire, beneath the World's Edge Mountains lies the forsaken province of Sylvania. Long a place of mystery and sinister doings, Sylvania descended into horror during the Black Plague when the necromancer Vanhel raised legions of the dead. Since that time, Sylvania has been a haunted land steeped in the darkest magic. From the ancient castle of Drakenhof, Count Vlad von Carstein rules the county, but his ambition drives him to seek greater power. With the Empire consumed by civil strife, Vlad sees opportunity. The warbands he sends into Mordheim, the wyrdstone they gather for him, are but the first steps in the war the vampire lord will soon wage on his mortal neighbours.

Craft Keep VR Early Access Next Month

Excalibur Publishing announces Craft Keep VR, a virtual reality game where you fulfill your dreams of glory by playing as what amounts to an NPC in an RPG. Early access to this will begin on Steam on November 10th for HTC Vive owners. This is an standalone extension of Shoppe Keep, and say their original game will receive a patch around the launch of the new one. Here's a trailer with a look at what to expect, and here's word:
Utilising the HTC Vive’s Room-Scale features, Craft Keep VR sees the player walk around their own shop and sell items to customers. Ordering individual items of stock, players craft their own potions, swords, daggers and more. And while stepping inside the fantasy world of Craft Keep VR is enthralling, players feel the pressure, needing to fulfil orders quickly enough the customers are satisfied.

Craft Keep VR uses the Vive’s natural wireless controllers to mimic the player’s real-life movement. When the player grips the controller, their avatar grips an item. When the player crouches and makes a throwing action, their avatar crouches by a furnace and tosses a piece of iron into the fire. Will players be sensible enough to responsibly handle hammers and crossbows, though? We doubt it.

Uwe Boll Ending Film Career

Film director Uwe Boll is saying goodbye to Hollywood, or the b-movie equivalent where he's plied his trade, saying he will no longer be making movies. Dark Horizons has the details that say he's not only done ruining video game properties, but other scripts as well. Boll states the decline in DVD/Blu-Ray sales is the reason he can't make money anymore. He says this is because he has been self-funding his projects. "I never had people giving me money. I’ve been using my money since 2005 and if I hadn’t made the stupid video game based movies I would never have amalgamated the capital so I could say, ‘Let’s make the Darfur movie’," he explains. "I don’t need a Ferrari, I don’t need a yacht. I invested in my own movies and I lost money." According to Box Office Mojo, Boll's five biggest movies grossed a total of $41.2 million worldwide, so the idea that these allowed him to fund other movies reinforces the understanding that his projects were in part supported by German tax laws.

Out of the Blue

Well, I had a dandy of a coffee disaster this morning. It's not much of a story... I managed to dump half a cup of coffee into my keyboard and onto my legs. I avoided a scalding, but now I find my key no longer works. Well of course it's blank, the key doesn't work, but that's where I tried to type the letter between w and y. I'm getting by with my "x"s by copy and pasting, and I can confirm this will not be the newest trend in speed typing. Of course this is a keyboard I spent WAY too much money on, so I'm pretty pissed at myself that it looks like I need to go out and replace it. But I have no one but myself to blame, I'll have to try to be more careful in the future.
