Goat Simulator Free Weekend

Steam News announces the chance to get in touch with your inner ruminant animal with a free weekend for Goat Simulator. The game is also now on sale, so here's word on how to join the herd:

Play Goat Simulator for free, from now until Sunday at 1pm Pacific Time!

Additionally, save 75% on Goat Simulator as part of this week's Weekend Deal*!

Goat Simulator is the latest in goat simulation technology, bringing next-gen goat simulation to YOU. You no longer have to fantasize about being a goat, your dreams have finally come true! WASD to write history.

Gameplay-wise, Goat Simulator is all about causing as much destruction as you possibly can as a goat. It has been compared to an old-school skating game, except instead of being a skater, you're a goat, and instead of doing tricks, you wreck stuff. Destroy things with style, such as doing a backflip while headbutting a bucket through a window, and you'll earn even more points! Or you could just give Steam Workshop a spin and create your own goats, levels, missions, and more! When it comes to goats, not even the sky is the limit, as you can probably just bug through it and crash the game.

*Discount offer ends Monday at 10AM Pacific Time

Call of Duty: Black Ops III Descent Released

Activision announces the release of Descent, the third DLC pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops III. This adds four new multiplayer maps and another chapter in the endless zombie assault. Here's a Gorod Krovi Trailer showing off the zombies, and here's the announcement:

The third DLC pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops III, Descent, is now available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, transporting players to four new multiplayer maps that span the globe and an all-new Zombies experience, Gorod Krovi.

In the newest, twisted chapter of the Origins Zombies experience, Gorod Krovi takes players to an alternate-timeline of Stalingrad in which they must face-off against a swarm of mechanized zombie soldiers and avoid hell-fire from aerial dragon assaults, all in the midst of a raging battle within the remnants of Nikolai’s motherland. Gorod Krovi delivers a harrowing Zombies experience, filled with horrifying new enemies, exciting new gameplay mechanics and an epic set of undead-annihilating weapons.

Call of Duty: Black Ops III Descent includes four new multiplayer maps set in a cryogenic penitentiary, a Viking hamlet, a robot death-match arena and a contemporary reconstruction of an ancient Roman estate:

  • Empire: Fan favorite map Raid returns, re-imagined in this classic, medium-sized map as an authentic Roman villa, where a classic map structure mixes with the new gameplay mechanics of Black Ops III.
  • Berserk: A Viking village frozen in time enlists players to fight through blizzards, for control of the center bridge. This medium-sized map features wooden buildings, deadly rocky outcroppings, and tight chokepoints.
  • Cryogen: Located far in the Dead Sea, this isolated compound holds some of the world’s most dangerous criminals in frozen isolation. Sentry towers keep watch over the small map’s circular design as frenetic combat and wall running attacks abound.
  • Rumble: Gamers battle amongst larger-than-life mechanized warriors in this medium-sized map, which funnels high-speed combat to the central arena, where players battle their way through fallen mechs and pyrotechnics.

Descent is now available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC at a discounted rate via the Call of Duty: Black Ops III DLC Season Pass**, which features four DLC Map Packs planned for the year, as part of the discounted bundle offered at a suggested retail price of $49.99.

The game marks the first title for the Canadian development studio, Ashdar Games, and long-time fans of the popular 4x genre will not be disappointed.

Stars in Shadow is a turn-based 4x strategy game set deep in space featuring seven playable factions, comprised of six different alien races. Offered in a highly distinctive comic-book art style, Stars in Shadow draws players into its galactic universe with an immersive backstory. By competing with alien factions, exploring nearby star systems, developing colonies and empires, and much more, the galaxy can be unified through either diplomacy or by force – the choice will be left entirely up to the player.

  • Unique hand-drawn comic book art style
  • Turn based 4X space strategy featuring turn based fleet combat. The tactical system allows starships to do battle using a wide range of different weapons and abilities
  • Seven playable factions comprising six alien races. Choice of faction will determine tech and research opportunities initially available. Forming alliances, conquering neighboring species, or discovering ancient artifacts may open up additional avenues of research
  • A vast range of different planet types, each with their own lore. The most prized worlds are those that hold artifacts from civilizations that vanished long ago. Map sizes up to 85 star systems. Each star can have up to 10 planets
  • Manage a growing empire. Balance the competing priorities of research, growth, and ship building and decide the fate of those alien species that come under your control
  • Galactic Politics: Of the playable alien species, three are "young races", reaching out into the galaxy for the first time. The remaining three are "old races", survivors of a terrible war fought in the distant past, they still hold to their ancient grudges. Races will impact which world will be most suitable as well as alliances and trades offerings
  • Advanced settings such as Random events and NPC factions, including pirates and marauders

Out of the Blue

I've seen a few sad reminders lately that today is the anniversary of Paul Steed's passing. The former id artist died four years ago today, and in many ways the shock from that persists. Paul would like the attention, but not the mourning. I imagine he would far prefer the takeaway from this to be to appreciate life and friends as best you can. At least that's how I try to view it. I try to use thoughts like that as a reminder to be better about keeping in touch with people.
