A new patch is now available in Heroes of the Storm, Blizzard's MOBA. The main
feature of the new version is the new hero Auriel, and they celebrate with
Auriel Hero Week.
There are other changes as well, and you can read all about them in
these patch notes.
Here's a bit on Auriel: As the eternal embodiment of hope, it should come
as no surprise that Auriel’s favored role on the battlefield is one of a
backline support, bestowing clarity, hope, and healing to her allies through the
use of her Cord of Hope, Al’maiesh. This archangel is no stranger to the chaos
of battle however, as countless hell demons could certainly attest to her deadly
abilities during the Eternal Conflict. Now descending from the High Heavens and
into the Nexus, we will see what comes of those who hope to stand against Auriel! Continue here to read the full story.
Finnish developer Frozenbyte now offers a free content update for Shadwen.
Titled Escape from the Castle, this is available for the stealth game on
Windows, OS X, and Linux. As may be inferred from the title, this reverses the
original campaign's infiltration goal. The game is also currently on sale for
half-off on GOG.com,
Humble Store, and
Steam. Here's more:
The levels are reverse and remade versions of the ones in the orignal
campaign - the objective now is to escape from the King's Castle!
The difficulty curve in the new content has been increased and players are
encouraged to search for hidden treasure maps scattered around the levels!
The update also includes numerous bug fixes and some tweaks to the game's
AI.
Heart&Slash is now available for Windows and OS X
on Steam following a
Kickstarter and early access. Publisher BadLand Games calls this a "robotic
roguelike/3D brawler-hybrid." If that doesn't paint a picture for you, they
offer this trailer to
help. Here's more: Take on the role of Heart, a malfunctioning robot, and
fight for your identity against the monolithic QuAsSy (Quality Assurance
Systems) -- an evil machine obsessed with robots that look and sound the same.
Meet Slash -- dashing veteran of the Robolution. Can you capture Slash's
attention over several playthroughs? Fair warning: Each quest is an opportunity
to woo (or anger!) the old-timer. Your choices will define the relationship
between the two robots. Go for a killing blow, and you might end the
relationship before it even begins. Choose love, and victory could slip through
your mechanical fingers ... Continue here to read the full story.
This trailer offers a

DSOGaming). This is part of the recently
announced BioShock collection, showing graphical improvements for the first

Bethesda Softworks offers fans of The Evil Within and Rage hope
that follow-ups to one or both games are still possible (thanks
VG247).
Speaking with finder.com.au, Bethesda's Pete Hines tells them each game did
well enough to warrant a sequel. This topic has come up before, in particular
about Rage, id Software's 2011 first-person shooter.
In 2013 Hines said
whether a Rage sequel was coming was "TBD," and shortly after that Tim Willits
stated that the franchise was "not dead." When
asked about sequels to both games they say Hines didn't hesitate before saying
yes. He expands on that in a follow-up answer: Pete Hines: I can’t talk
about the unannounced stuff and what we may or may not do. I get myself in
trouble whenever I do that. Even when we were talking about the Morrowind
Remaster, if I come out and say, ‘I just don’t think that is going to happen,’
then people freak out. So I won’t confirm or deny stuff we may or may not do, as
people jump to the wrong conclusions. But I do think both The Evil Within and
Rage did well enough that we could make sequels. Personally I loved Rage and had
a tonne of fun playing it, but we have a lot of stuff in the pipeline right now
so you will have to wait and see.

Shiver Games offers a Lucius Demake for Windows
on Steam. This takes the
original Lucius back to
the 80s with throwback graphics and style. They also offer a bundle of this
along with the first two Lucius games at a discount. Here's
a trailer with a look
at this. Here's word on how this generated from a fan project: Lucius
Demake is a reimagining of the original Lucius game, made to look as if it is
actually from the late 80s, complete with 2D pixel graphics and 16 colors. Why
did Shiver Games decide to do something like this? It all started when Gergely
Sinkó, a fan of the original game, created a mock-up concept picture: The image
resonated with the team so much that they decided Lucius needed to be completely
reborn in the 1980s. Shiver Games reached out to Gergely and asked him to
recreate the whole game with them in his distinctive style. He was hired and the
devil's son was born again – this time, with only twelve pixels. Continue here to read the full story.
I want to express my appreciation for one of the greatest hitters in the history
of baseball as he nears the end of his career. I'm tricking you into think I'm
talking about Alex Rodriguez, but you may know me too well already to fall for
that. Congrats to
Ichiro Suzuki on his 3,000th career hit. Ichiro is an amazing baseball
player, still productive at age 42, and is one of the classier players of our era.
He also managed to rack up 1,278 hits in Japanese ball so his 4,278 hits
professional hits is an all-time record. Hat's off to Ichiro, one of the
all-time greats.
A
post on the No Man’s Sky website paves the way for this week's launch of the
new space game. It's due tomorrow on PS4 and on Friday for Windows, so Sean
Murray tackles the topic of what you do in the game. He also provides links to
old and new screenshots and gameplay videos from various sources. He also
mentions a livestream of the game that's already concluded, but can still be
viewed here.
Here are some warnings about what the game is and isn't:
That means this maybe isn’t the game you *imagined* from those
trailers. If you hoped for things like pvp multiplayer or city building,
piloting freighters, or building civilisations… that isn’t what NMS is. Over
time it might become some of those things through updates.
For instance, freighters and building bases *are* coming!
Read about updates
coming here.
At launch though, it’s an infinite procedural sci-fi-space-survival-sandbox
unlike anything you have ever played before. If you decide to play it, you’ll
see just how closely it plays to those trailers, and to our original vision.
It’s a weird game, it’s a niche game and it’s a very very chill game.
A new
Internet Archive Amiga Software Library is online (thanks
Boing Boing). This is a large collection of titles from the heyday of the
beloved 16-bit system. These can be played via emulation in a browser, and they
also offer downloads of the Amiga disk images. A wide range of classics are
immortalized, including King's Quest II, The Bard's Tale, and of course,
Blow
Job Drifter.
Early access to Space Ribbon is now available
on Steam. This is a
psychedelic racing game for Windows, OS X, and Linux is set in space, but still
uses tracks. This is pretty typical stuff, unless you count local split-screen
multiplayer or that tracks are vomited up on the fly by gigantic space
creatures. This video offers a
look and here's a bit more: The year is 2132. In the far reaches of the galaxy, gigantic space creatures
have been discovered. Creatures that vomit solid matter out of their mouths.
Solid matter that is the perfect substance to drive super retro space cars in a
race to enter the creature’s mouth. We call it the Space Ribbon. In the fastest
growing sport in the galaxy, be the first to chase down a giant space beast as
it spews a completely different psychedelic racetrack out of its mouth every
time you play. Modify junked up classic cars and turn them into the fastest in
space.
Experience psychedelic space racing with Space Ribbon’s intelligent track
generation you will never drive the same course twice, making this is a true
test of driver skill. Continue here to read the full story.
A new video from
LawBreakers puts you on the frontline with the Vanguard. This shows off the
aerial antics of this mobile class in the upcoming first-person shooter. Boss
Key invites those interested in breaking the law to sign up for the alpha test
on the official website. The
description has a bit more on the game: "The Vanguard is highly mobile and flies
above the battle to rain destruction on their enemies! Keep your eyes out for
Maverick and Toska-9 when you're in battle- you don't want to be caught in their
line of fire." Continue here to read the full story.

Team VVV). Here's more on the game's new support for virtual reality: "This
single track demo allows the player to experience the fast paced kart racer in

battle your opponents using a variety of homemade weapons and gadgets and get

Things look stable on the
GFK Chart-Track PC top 30 chart for the week ending August 6th. The Sims
4 remains at number one as the top three remain unchanged. The
all-platforms top 40 is similar, though GTA5 is now number one after
swapping places with LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which lands at
number three. Here's the
big picture: ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ (+31%) returns to the top of the All
Formats chart for the first time since March 2015.
Having been on chart over 150 weeks it’s the 9th No1 crown for the Take2 title.
It’s a close run fight for top spot this week with ‘Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End’
(+19%) making a late surge for the crown although it remains at No2 by just a
handful of sales. GTA V’s return to the top ends the 5 week run of ‘Lego Star
Wars: The Force Awakens’(-21%), which had been set to break the record for chart
topping Lego titles but instead drops to No3. ‘Overwatch’ (+13%) moves up a
place to No4 while outside the Top 10 ‘Tom Clancy’s The Division’ (+34%) climbs
ten places to No11.
It’s another quiet week with No Man’s Sky not scheduled to arrive until Wed.
However elsewhere in the Top 40 some notable climbers come in the form of ‘EA
Sports UFC 2’ (+26%) and ‘Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege’ (+26%). Both titles
continue their week on week climbs up to No15 and No16 respectively.

Decided to go back and rewatch Firefly, the cult favorite space western.
This is (only?) my second viewing of the show, and my recollection of how good
it is feels like an understatement. This causes the return of frustration over
its early demise. But as someone who didn't watch its first run, I'm in no
position to complain. But still, the show is so damn shiny. Seriously, to the
Fox execs who cancelled this? Ni men dou shi sha gua!
R.I.P.:
Ahmed Zewail, Nobel laureate who sparked a ‘revolution in chemistry,’ dies at 70.
