A new demo is now available for Zombasite, updating this sample of
Soldak's undead action/RPG. The Windows, OS X, and Linux demo is available on
this page or through
Steam.
This page
lists all the changes since the first demo, which was version 0.924.
In an effort to curtail cheating, Valve has updated their rules on gift giving
(thanks
MCV). VAC and Game Ban enabled games must now be installed or gifted
immediately. They can no longer be stockpiled in inventories for trade.
This page has a complete explanation, and here's part of the reasoning:
When a user is caught cheating, their Steam account is banned from
playing multi-player on secured servers. This creates an incentive for people
who cheat to stockpile copies of games on one account and to gift them to low
value accounts where they can continue cheating. In response to this problem,
Steam no longer allows users to purchase copies of VAC or Game Ban enabled games
to their inventory. Additionally, if an account has directly gifted a game to
other players who have been VAC or permanently Game Banned, then that account
will lose the ability to gift that game.
Amazon.com now lists a Battlefield 1 Exclusive Collector's Edition
for preorder (thanks
GamesRadar). This is a $129.99 release with a statue and other exclusives.
What's interesting is it does not include a copy of the base game. Some are
suggesting this is incongruous, but we see this as a positive development. A CE
without the game will allow someone to decide it's worthwhile based on actually
playing the game. Here's the outline of the contents: "The Battlefield 1 Amazon
Exclusive Collector's Edition includes Collector's Edition Statue (14" Tall),
Exclusive Steel book, Exclusive cloth poster, Deck of playing cards, Messenger
pigeon tube with exclusive DLC content, Exclusive patch, and Premium packaging.
This bundle does not include the game."
Blizzard may be releasing a remastered HD edition of StarCraft next
month, according to a story on
Kotaku. This is based on a story on Korean news site
iNews24 filled with symbols we can't read. They offer a translation, saying,
"Today, multiple sources with knowledge of Blizzard internal plans said that
Blizzard will reveal StarCraft HD to the public this September. The StarCraft HD
remastered version will retain the original gameplay and is said to have
improved graphics resolution and user interface (UI)." They say a September
release makes sense, since it would coincide with the conclusion of the
StarCraft II World Championship
Series 2016. Blizzard has not yet commented on this report. Update: StarCraft, not StarCraft II.
UbiBlog announces the release of the Trial by Fire DLC for Might & Magic
Heroes VII. This is available as an individual download or a new complete
edition of the strategy sequel. They provide
this trailer to
illustrate the news and show off some gameplay. Here's word: Two new campaigns are coming to Might & Magic Heroes VII, and you can play
them today with the release of the Trial by Fire expansion for the PC. Set five
years after the events that transpired in Heroes VII, Trial by Fire follows the
new Emperor as he faces a renewed threat from the Dwarven warbands encroaching
on his land. In addition to the new campaign content, this expansion features a
new playable Fortress Faction that represents Dwarven heroes, including Red
Dragons, Fire Giants, and Valkyries. There are also six new skirmish maps,
artifacts, and achievements.
If you don’t already own the original Might & Magic Heroes VII, a new Complete
Edition of the game is also available now. It includes the base game, the Trial
by Fire expansion, and The Lost Tales of Axeoth. Continue here to read the full story.
Bethesda.net covers the showing of Dishonored 2 at QuakeCon, as the
stealth sequel is being demoed at the show. The article discusses various
aspects of this "Corvo High Chaos Demo" and shows some gameplay in animated
gifs. Word is, "At this year’s QuakeCon, Smith showed off new gameplay behind
closed doors – this time with Corvo in the spotlight. And from what he revealed,
it’s clear that Corvo’s out for blood, playing for keeps." Here more, where they
discuss the setting: Also on display in the QuakeCon demo: more of the
game’s new setting, including some intriguing interiors. Once again, the
verticality of Karnaca was readily apparent, with towering buildings closing in
on all sides. But beyond the dizzying heights, the buildings themselves had a
much warmer, more southernly feel. Even in the condemned areas of the Crone’s
Hand Saloon, the wrought iron bannisters and plantation-style doors stood out.
And when Corvo confronted Paolo inside an open courtyard, the warmer ambiance
was striking, with clay-tile rooftops, interior facing balconies and lush
vegetation climbing up the columns and cascading down from the ornate
railings.
A new trailer from
Battlefield 1 shows off the upcoming World War I shooter. The clip features
gameplay along with interviews of the developers at DICE. The focus of the clip
is the game's arsenal, showing off the various weapons at the player's disposal.
Word is, "From shotguns to bayonets and gas grenades, find out about the Weapons
of Battlefield 1." Thanks

The Cat! Porfirio's Adventure is now available
on Steam, offering a new
entry in the burgeoning cat sim genre. You can get a look at this
in this trailer and
there are more details on the
official website. Here's word, "For an urban cat, the village is a
nightmare! Instead of pillows and blankets you get a pile of straw in the barn;
instead of canned cat food on schedule you have to search for something to eat.
And those terrible local cats could upset anyone... but not Porfirio! He will
prove to these village cats that urban cats are worth something!" Continue here to read the full story.
Publisher Deck 13 announces a November release for Bertram Fiddle Episode 2
for Windows and OS X on
Steam. This is the second installment in this point-and-click adventure set
in Victorian England. A
new trailer heralds the coming of "more murder, mystery and puns." Here's a
look back and forward at the series: In the first episode Geoff the
Murderer slipped through Bertram’s fingers. Since then his reign of terror
seemed to have ended so that the odd-nosed citizens of Old London Town could
wheeze a sigh of relief. But now the sinister goings on have begun again and the
dark, smog-filled streets and alleyways are once more gripped in with fear.
In Episode 2 - A Bleaker Predicklement, Bertram has been forced to take a job at
Dulsworth’s Soap Factory but soon finds himself embroiled in mystery and is
framed for a murdering he did not commit. Will he be able to escape prison? Can
he dress up as a lady, escape to the countryside, defeat an unspeakable foe,
return to London with the aid of a stuffed Dolphin, track down Geoff the
Murderer and finally get one over on Sherlock Holmes? Continue here to read the full story.

The opening ceremony for the Brazil Olympics gets underway tonight. I always
talk about how I don't have much interest before ending up watching far more of
the games than I planned. Recognizing this pattern, I have to admit I may end up
watching more than expected this time too. All the controversy surrounding the
setting of these games might have drawn me in anyway. It has been quite a
strange story. Countries fight to host the Olympics to generate money and
tourism. They are often wrong about the money, but rarely do the games do so
much to deter visiting the host country.

Huddleston, star of Big Lebowski and Santa Claus, dies at 85.
