Slitherine announces the release of Order of Battle: Winter War, a paid
expansion for free-to-play World War II wargame Order of Battle. The Windows and
OS X expansion can be found
on Steam, and it updates the game with a completely new set of Finnish units
and a new campaign with 13 new scenarios. This
product section has details and images, and here's word: After going
Free-to-Play and having been download over 500k times in a month, Order of
Battle changes theatre of war for the first time, leaving the beaches of Pacific
islands and landing in Europe. This paves the way for a completely new set of
units, including Finnish ski troops, panzerfaust-equipped infantry, German
Panzer IV and StuG III combat vehicles, several variations of the Soviet T-34,
KV-2 152mm-armed heavy tanks and a whole range of iconic aircraft such as the Me
Bf-109, Fw-190, Yak-7, Il-2 Sturmovik and Fokker D.XXI.
Publisher Curve Digital and developer No Brakes Games now offer the full Steam
release of Human: Fall Flat for Windows, OS X, and Linux, following the debut of
a prototype of the puzzle game on
itch.io. A
new
trailer celebrates the release, and shows off the game's two-player co-op
mode. Here's more on the game: In Human: Fall Flat, the player must guide
Bob through a series of surreal dreamscapes using only Bob’s limited dexterity
and the objects around him. By operating Bob’s limbs independently, players must
traverse wrecked trainyards, clamber over cavernous wastelands and lay siege to
fairy-tale castles, all in the pursuit of… whatever it is Bob is seeking.
Human: Fall Flat encourages repeat playthroughs, as there are often many ways to
overcome obstacles and reach each level’s exit. Experimenting with the way Bob
interacts with various objects and environments can lead to some genuinely
inventive moments—players should never wonder if they can make a solution work,
but instead how they will. Continue here to read the full story.
NVIDIA has unveiled the TITAN X, a new flagship video card based on their
Pascal architecture, perhaps courting confusion by retaining the same name as
their last top-of-the-line model. They call this "without question, the world’s
ultimate graphics card," and say it will be available August 2nd, though there
are
ongoing shortages and price-gouging on the 1080 series launched at the end of May, so it may be a while before you can find one, and
it may be longer finding one at list price (widely-reported to be $1200.00).
A video introduces the
new card by posing it naked for your voyeuristic needs, and here's word: NVIDIA
TITAN X has 11 TFLOPS of power, 3584 CUDA Cores, 12GB of 10Gbps GDDR5X VRAM,
a 384-bit Memory Interface, 480 GB/sec of Memory Bandwidth, boosts to 1.5GHz out
of the box, utilizes superior heat dissipation vapor chamber cooling technology,
and features a stunning design. It is, without question, the world’s ultimate
graphics card. Continue here to read the full story.
Left my phone in my office last night and completely missed my alarm this
morning, getting things off on the wrong foot. I think I'm pretty caught up, but
apologies for the setback.
1C Company announces Haimrik, an action/adventure game in development at Below
the Game for release next year on Windows PCs. This platformer has innovative
narration and a black and white and red all over art style both shown off in
this trailer. Here's
word: Taking place in medieval times, the story of Haimrik places a new
emphasis on words. They not only supply the narrative for the story, but also
give the main character, a young boy named Haimrik, the means to progress on his
difficult journey. He practically walks on words, activating some of them and
turning them into physical objects. For example, if ‘fire’ burns him to a crisp,
then ‘water’ can help him deal with it.
The funny but dangerous adventures of Haimrik and his eccentric friends also
often color their monochrome game world with blood. Haimrik’s dark humor and
unique gameplay will appeal to anyone who likes... well, dark humor and unique
gameplay! Continue here to read the full story.
Free Reign Entertainment announces the launch of Shattered Skies, calling
the game an open-world looter shooter in a no rules sandbox environment. This is
sold on its website and
on Steam as a one-time
purchase with no microtransactions, but there are different editions of the game
ranging from a Starter Edition through an Ultimate Edition, and they offer the
ability to upgrade at any time. Here's word: Shattered Skies is a
hardcore, full-loot drop game that makes a user’s items available to other
players upon their demise. The game also contains a bevy of features, including:
- Player vs. player (PVP) and player vs. environment
(PVE) play
- First-person and third-person play perspectives
- A full reputation system that allows players to
roleplay as a good or bad guy
- Hundreds of unique lootable weapons, consumables,
fortifications and cosmetics
- The ability to secure buildings with barricades,
traps and other fortifications to keep players and aliens at bay
- Collectable rare items for saving and trading
- Fully customizable character cosmetics, including
headwear, facewear, body, pants and shoes
"Shattered Skies earned praise from gamers during both closed
alpha and open beta, and the community sees the game as a fresh addition to the
genre by changing the way they look at open world survival shooter titles,” said
Adam Skidmore, Senior Game Designer at Free Reign Entertainment. "Thanks to our
experience making open world games, we’ve focused on the features that players
want most and on making the game more dynamic so gamers can return to the action
quickly.”
Shattered Skies is an open world looter shooter that pits users
against alien monstrosities and other players in a no rules sandbox where people
can choose to help others, or hunt them. After a comet crashed into the moon,
its fragments rained upon a once peaceful valley surrounded by mountains and
turned the world into chaos. Since that day a mysterious alien life form within
the comet’s fragments began to thrive on Earth’s rich environment, changing the
planet and bringing hellish monsters to the world. As one of the few remaining
survivors, players will struggle to endure against an enemy unlike any humanity
has faced before.
For more information on Shattered Skies please visit the game’s
official website.

Paradox Interactive announces The Reaper's Due, an upcoming expansion for
Crusader Kings II that will infect the strategy sequel with the plague.
They offer this
announcement trailer (sure to go viral) to show off the joys of the black
death, and here are some details on the expansion as well as the release of a
new interactive article called
Crusader Kings: Chronicles. Here's word: The Reaper’s Due
is the newest expansion for Crusader Kings II, the best-selling medieval
strategy simulator from Paradox Development Studio. This expansion highlights
the historic importance of epidemics and disease in the Middle Ages, especially
the Black Death – an outbreak of the bubonic plague that may have killed a third
of the population of Europe
The Reaper’s Due introduces many new systems and features to what is already the
richest medieval tapestry in gaming:
- Epidemics Boosted: As diseases may spread
from province to province along trade and sea lanes, they lower your
manpower and sap your wealth
- Hospitals and Royal Physicians: Prevent the
outbreak of disease in your kingdom, and make sure your courtiers have
access to the latest in Dark Ages Medical Science
- Prosperity and Royal Focus: Well managed
provinces in peaceful kingdoms will pay huge dividends in gold and levies
- Seclusion: Shield yourself from the
diseases tearing your kingdom apart, even if it means ignoring the plight of
your people
- New Event Chains: Is the new epidemic the
End of Days? Is there someone else to blame for these horrors? Are there
supernatural origins or solutions to the world’s problems?
To help you pass the time until release, Paradox is happy to announce the
release of a Crusader Kings II gamebook. Crusader Kings: Chronicles is a mobile
interactive adventure from M. Harold Page set in the tumult of the Black Death
as it ravages England.

Oops, failed to note yesterday's 47th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing,
the reminder coming through a likewise tardy mention of the news on
Slashdot (thanks nin). I'm no rat, but if you want to refute that this
happened and Buzz Aldrin decides he wants to punch you out, I'm going to give up
all the info I have to help him find you.
