Steam News announces the
promised
release of Trials on
Tatooine, a free game that allows HTC Vive owners to live the dream of
operating a virtual reality lightsaber. Though this is a free game, they
emphasize it will take serious horsepower to run: Take Your First Step
into a Larger World of Star Wars
The creative minds of Lucasfilm’s ILMxLAB present a virtual reality experiment
set in a galaxy far, far away…Star Wars: Trials on Tatooine. For the first time
ever, wield a lightsaber as you leap into action in the most immersive Star Wars
virtual reality experience ever. Be transported to the desert world of Tatooine,
repair the iconic Millennium Falcon, and defend the plucky droid hero R2-D2 from
incoming stormtroopers in this captivating experience set after the events of
Return of the Jedi.
Usage Notes
Trials on Tatooine uses a single controller. We support both 5.1 surround and
headphone audio, pick the setting with the icon on the intro screen for your
configuration.
Trials on Tatooine approaches photo-realistic quality and requires a powerful
computer. The quality setting on the left of the introduction screen should
default to the correct setting for your system. If you drop frames try setting
the quality knob one lower. In general, a minimum spec computer will run on the
lowest setting while a fast computer with an Nvidia Titan X GPU will run on the
highest setting. Trials on Tatooine also supports SLI and will automatically
render on two GPU’s if available.
The LawBreakers website now
offers a
new trailer called "Play the Enforcer," showing off LawBreakers, the
upcoming multiplayer shooter from Cliff Bleszinski and BossKey Studios. Word is:
"Whether you are a LAW or BREAKER - get your run n’ gun fix by playing Axel or
Kintaro. Kick ass from afar with the Enforcer role by using the Aerator Rifle,
get close by using the Badger Shock Pistol and finish off your foes with the
shoulder-mounted Bloodhound Launcher." They plan on another closed alpha test
for the game this weekend, and there's still time to apply for the chance to be
included. Continue here to read the full story.
A new trailer from
TEKKEN 7 celebrates the news that both Bob and Master Raven will be
included when the fighting sequel launches next year. Word is: TEKKEN 7
fans at EVO 2016 in Las Vegas were treated to a special announcement by TEKKEN
series Director, Katsuhiro Harada, when he revealed that both Bob and Master
Raven will be joining the fray in TEKKEN 7 when the game launches for the
PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PCs in early 2017 for Europe, Middle East, Africa
and Australasia.
Introduced in TEKKEN 6, Bob (full name: Robert Richards) is an American fighter
that practices Freestyle Karate as his chosen fighting style. Possessing great
strength, uncanny speed, and a wide range of attacks, Bob is one of the most
well rounded fighters in the TEKKEN series.
The original Raven made his debut in TEKKEN 5 with origins that are still murky
today. Now Master Raven enters the fight in TEKKEN 7, executing her ninjutsu
fighting skills with exceptional power and precision. Master Raven has no
problem tearing her opponents apart in The King of Iron Fist
Tournament. Continue here to read the full story.
Ludeon Studios announces that they've been forced to stop giving Steam
keys to those who buy the DRM-free edition of Rimworld from their site,
though the game is still available for purchase directly
from Steam (thanks
Tessier). Word is their generosity was being rewarded by thousands of dollars in
chargebacks due to fraud: If you bought before today, you can still get a
key. However, I’ve been forced to stop offering Steam keys for those who buy
today and in the future. We’ve been getting hammered by fraudsters who are
obviously more experienced at this than I. Shutting it down for now is the only
way to avoid thousands of dollars in chargeback fees and lost sales. It’s time
to take a breather, because I can’t fight this ‘live’.
The game is, of course, for sale on Steam if you want a Steam copy. Buying from
our site will give DRM-free copies as before, but no Steam key.
All the stolen keys are being cancelled, and should be deactivated before they
can be sold (or soon after, depending on how fast Valve does it). The funds they
were stolen with are being returned to their rightful owners. If you don’t want
to get ripped off by fraudsters, be sure to buy direct from Steam.
If you bought direct from us before July 17 and find your key cancelled, it may
be due to a separate glitch we had (affecting only a few dozen people). You
should be able to get a new key immediately from the Steam key giver, and
continue playing where you left off.
A new trailer from
8DAYS celebrates the release of the dual-stick shooter in four days, as
it's due on Steam on July
22nd. Here's word: "G.O.D. Inc. (Gold, Oil, and Diamonds, Inc.) is the world
leader in the Private Military Company (PMC) sector -- bringing peace to those
conflict areas where its clients have strategic interests. In 8DAYS, players
take on the role of Lola 'Wasp' Cruz and Mike 'Ghost' Doe -- two of G.O.D.’s
expendable mercenaries. G.O.D. and 8DAYS Magazine are modern instruments used to
keep the masses under control. G.O.D. is primarily a peacekeeping force, and the
8DAYS magazine keeps public opinion in line." Continue here to read the full story.
The Sims 4 still holds the top spot on the
GfK Chart-Track chart of the 30 bestselling PC games in the U.K. for the
week ending July 16th. Things are pretty stable, and the top new entry is Tom
Clancy's The Division, which re-enters the chart at number 12. LEGO Star Wars:
The Force Awakens retains a force hold on number one on the
all platforms chart, where there's a new entry at number three, Monster
Hunter Generations. Here
are the details:
Warner’s ‘Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ (-45%) holds on to No1 for a
third week in a row.
The only other Lego title to spend more consecutive weeks at No1 is ‘Lego Batman
2: DC Super Heroes’ with 5 weeks back in 2012. A retailer’s shopping event day
gives a boost to several previous chart toppers with ‘Uncharted 4: A Thief’s
End’ (+152%) jumping four places to No2, ahead of this week’s highest new entry,
‘Monster Hunter Generations’ on 3DS at No3. ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ (+91%) and
‘Fallout 4’ (+85%) also benefit, climbing from No7 to No5 and No20 to No10
respectively. Hardware bundles were included in the sales event leading to ‘Zoo
Tycoon’ and ‘Kinect Sports Rivals’ from Microsoft’s Xbox One Holiday Bundle
shooting back in to the Top 40 at No’s 11 and 12. Promoted titles outside the
Top 10 also enjoy sales increases with ‘Batman: Arkham Knight’ (+113%) up 19
places to No13 while ‘Guitar Hero Live’ (+789%) re-enters the Top 40 at
No15.
My recent success in fixing the broken arm on my Aeron chair inspired an attempt
at a further repair, as the chair's pneumatic gas cylinder has lost most of its
pep over the years. The good news is that the size of these parts is the same,
so you can use a generic replacement. What should also be good news is that
these are held together by friction, so you are supposed to be able to wrench
the old one out pretty easily, and there are videos on YouTube showing what an
easy process this is. The bad news is that it is also easy to search the
internet to find many people suffering from the same problem I am, which is the
cylinder is completely jammed into both ends, and has so far defied every effort
to remove it. Following the advice of some who are similarly stuck, I have
applied a healthy dose of WD-40 and will take another crack at this when that's
had a chance to work its way in (and temperatures permit).

Star Wars: The Old Republic is celebrating its fifth anniversary, and
this post
has details on the celebration along with a trailer. They also offer
an infographic
on the game, saying it boasts 87 million players who have put in 1.5 billion
hours playing the MMORPG. To keep all those players happy,
they announce
Knights of the Eternal Throne, a new expansion coming this autumn,
saying, "The all new expansion adds more of BioWare's trademark cinematic
storytelling, as well as exciting new game features in one of the largest
updates the team has made since the game launched 5 years ago in 2011!"
This page has all the info
about the expansion they are revealing at this time. Finally, BioWare also announces a
free trial, saying, "all players can prepare for the new expansion by
playing Chapter 1 of the prequel story in Knights of the Fallen Empire, now for
free"
Battle.net has details on a new patch coming to World of Warcraft
this week to pave the way for the upcoming legion expansion for the MMORPG. They
say in the weeks leading up to the launch of Legion they will be unlocking even
more content, and this is what the patch is adding for starters: The
Opening Salvo
When the pre-expansion patch initially goes live, players will be able to
immediately access many of its key system-related features. Some of these major
updates include:
Transmogrification Updates
The new Transmogrification Collections system will make it easier than ever to
collect, store, and sort through the gear you want to use for
transmogging—without taking up storage space in your inventory, bank, or Void
Storage. As you collect items that can be used with the system, you can browse
through them—as well as sort by class or slot—in the Appearances tab in your
Collections interface.
Class Updates
We’re making some significant changes to classes and their specs for Legion to
further strengthen their identities. The core changes to spells, talents, and
more are going into effect as soon as the pre-expansion patch goes live. For
more information on what’s new for each class and spec, read our earlier class
preview blogs.
We’re also making it easier to switch between specializations for different
content. Players will be able to queue up for dungeons, raids, Battlegrounds, or
Arenas as any role that is available to their class, while continuing to play as
another role while they’re waiting. When they enter the content they’ve queued
for, they will automatically switch to the suitable role upon entering (at no
cost) and then switch back automatically when they leave the instance.

Space Battle Poker is a new cardgame that blends the classic mechanics

Digital Eel's award-winning Infinite Space series of computer

also be used for Infinite Space Battle Poker, as long as the winner
is determined by comparing hands of five cards each. For example, we really
enjoy using the Anaconda Poker rules."

Had a monster-movie triple feature last night, watching Dracula,
Frankenstein, and The Mummy, none of which I had seen since I was a
kid. This turned out to be interesting, because they were all pretty different
than I recalled. This especially applied to The Mummy, which I remembered being about people being menaced by a guy wrapped in bandages, but turns out
to be more similar to the Brendan Fraser remake than that. Watching these films
together also highlighted that Dwight Frye, the same actor who was so memorable
as Renfield in Dracula, was also Fritz the hunchback in Frankenstein,
which is pretty cool. I actually remembered that character's name as Igor, just
one of many details about the movie blurred from seeing Young
Frankenstein several times since the last time I saw the original.
R.I.P.:
Alan Vega. Thanks nin.
