A tweet
from MachineGames reveals that the Wolfenstein: The New Order and
Wolfenstein: The Old Blood developer is celebrating the recent 20th
anniversary of the launch of QUAKE with a brand-new episode they've
created for the classic first-person shooter. They don't offer specific details
about the episode's contents, but the reception from those who have checked it
out is extremely positive. Thanks Thinus.
NightDive Studios' plans for System Shock have changed in the six weeks
since they last
discussed plans for a remastered version of the action/RPG, as
Polygon has word that they are now considering this more of a System Shock
reboot. "We felt that the amount of passion and resources that we are putting
into this game elevated it beyond the expectations that someone would have for a
remaster," CEO Stephen Kick tells them. "This is a full-fledged reboot of a
classic game into something new." They offer a preview of the game and the
Kickstarter that begins next Tuesday, offering some concept art. They also note
that a short playable demo will be released for free upon the launch of the
Kickstarter.
A special weekend event is now underway in Heroes of the Storm, allowing
every hero in the game to be played by everyone for free. This will run until
June 28th in celebration of their summer championships, and to further
commemorate the event, they have the skins worn by the winning team on sale in a
special bundle.
Whore of the Orient has been cancelled, according to
a story on finder.com.au
based on comments from this week's
Gamehugs podcast (thanks Kate). This was to be the next game from Team
Bondi, who developed L.A. Noire, though besides the intentionally edgy title we
never got a lot of details about what to expect. This was perhaps due to
of troubles at Team Bondi, though last
we heard they had raised a little
cash for this project. Here's their summary of the news: During the
lengthy conversation around Proud’s career he opened up about that period, about
the exciting potential for Whore of the Orient, what the game was going to be
like and ultimately its demise. While not using the word “cancel” explicitly,
Proud makes it clear that Team Bondi fought to keep the project alive to the
bitter end and failed. He admitted that the team was ultimately disbanded and
that the game will not come out.
SCS Software announces plans to make a fundamental change to the underlying
scale of American Truck Simulator that will dramatically increase the scope of
the transport sim. They say the scale of the game is being changed from 1:35 to
1:20, meaning the roads outside cities will be 75% longer, noting this is the
same scale used in Euro Truck Simulator 2. They request patience with this
process, as they anticipate it will take several months, but they are optimistic
this is the best move for the long term future of the game. Here's an outline of
the plan: Having said all that, perhaps the greatest number of complaints
from the players of American Truck Simulator have been related to the scale of
the map. Your comments are incredibly important to us, and we listen to as many
as we can. As such, we had been pondering internally how to meet your feedback
for several months while we finished work on the Arizona DLC, and now we have
made up our mind: we are, as a free future update, going to increase the scale
of the game world of American Truck Simulator. This update will have many clear
benefits for you, such as:
- Upping the map scale from 1:35 to 1:20, meaning
75% longer roads outside cities
- Retouching the the existing system of roads and
intersections and revisiting the placement of cities and crossroads
- Focusing on a better sense of scale and distance,
more space for large vistas
- Adjusting the timescale - meaning a slower
day/night cycle and longer intervals between when the driver needs to rest
and refuel
- Revamping problematic junctions - no more
Interstate intersections!
- Revamping the driver experience system to more
closely mirror ETS2's system
- More room for densely populated areas in future
map expansions
MuHa Games blog
announces the "MultiPrayer update is now live," marking the release of the
second free DLC pack for Thea: The Awakening, their turn-based RPG. They
admit to hyping a little when they call this multiplayer, as this is a
two-player mode, but as they point out, anything more than one is "multi."
Here's more: The second big DLC has just hit the stores! The main focus
of this DLC is a co-op mode for 2 players, where you’ll be able to play with
your buddy and overcome the dangers of Thea together!
So, how does it work? Both players start with their own village, not too far
from each other, and lead their people autonomously under the banner of one god.
Each player has their own Inventory, Experience Points and Research tree
unlocks. They can trade supplies and villagers and work together to complete the
main game events, but random events can pop-up for each player independently.
Turns are played simultaneously and while you can’t jump in to help your friend
in a fight, you can resolve your own fights while you wait for your buddy to
finish theirs.
Of course the DLC is not only about it. It also includes new stories, art, UI
improvements, a new building and of course bugfixes.
So, stay on your toes, it might be a good occasion to introduce your friend to
Thea and enjoy its perils together.
* (yes, we are aware that multi technically means anything more than one. But
two is more than one and we just couldn’t resist using the MultiPrayer name for
this DLC).

Well, when it rains it pours. I mentioned my recent trip to the doctor to test
for Lyme or whatever was causing some symptoms I was showing. The results were
negative, but a couple of weeks later I still don't feel 100%, and I am at the
point where I'm trying to decide if this is a concern, or just a bug that's
lingering longer than expected. Now to pile on, I also now have a mysterious
elbow issue, which started out as a minor irritation and has grown to be a
genuine pain that actually woke me up a couple of times overnight. This is a
soreness in the small area between the bottom of the triceps and the top of the
elbow that's most sensitive to trying to extend it versus resistance, which my
Googling around suggests is most likely elbow tendinitis. That's all well and
good, but since I spend a lot of effort avoiding physical labor, I simply have
no idea what might have provoked such a thing. I don't think the two issues are
related, though achy joints early on was the reason I got tested for Lyme.
Anyway, the elbow I can take a wait and see attitude with, but if I am still
feeling sickly after the weekend I think I will go back to the doctor and
escalate things.
