DOOM Balance Patch

A post to the Bethesda.net Forums outlines the changes in a multiplayer balance patch that went live today in DOOM, id Software's new shooter. They also explain the reasoning for the update and give details on the next game patch, which they expect by the end of the month:

We hope you’ve been enjoying your time playing DOOM! It’s been less than a month since launch, but the team at id Software has been hard at work preparing to deploy DOOM’s next game update, which will arrive later this month.

In the meantime, today we are releasing a multiplayer improvement update for DOOM. This includes rebalancing of some multiplayer weapons based on your feedback: the Chaingun, Rocket Launcher, and Combat Shotgun. This update will also reduce the wait time between matches to 60 seconds. Last but not least, Clan Arena and Freeze Tag will now require the winning team to complete 5 rounds in order to win the match. The multiplayer improvement update will begin today at 10:30 ET —this is a server-side update, and will not require a download, though it will require a server outage, which we anticipate will be about an hour. As always, we appreciate your feedback and we hope you’ll continue to let us know your thoughts.

For DOOM’s next game update, we will be releasing the patch notes later this month, which will include several improvements and features. We thought it was important to share some of those improvements with you now:

  • Added Photo Mode for taking in-game screenshots
  • Added Classic DOOM weapon placement/view model option (1st person view option)
  • Added new Snapmap features (including skybox windows) and AI pathing and logic fixes.
  • Fixed various bugs including players accidentally triggering Dev Mode and Trophy/Achievement bugs (IDKFA, Every Nook and Cranny).

These are just a few of the improvements and fixes coming later this month, but we wanted to provide an update as soon as we could. Thank you all for your continued support. We greatly appreciate you taking the time to provide your feedback. We hope you’re enjoying your time in-game and we can’t wait to share more with you soon.

World of Tanks Tank Football 2016

World of Tanks website announces the launch of a Tank Football 2016 event, a return of their association football/soccer-themed competition bound to put a rocket league in your pocket. This trailer offers a look at how this works, though the intro seems a little drawn out since we've already spilled the beans on the mode. Here's word:

It’s time for kick-off in World of Tanks. The special Tank Football 2016 event is now live, so lace up those boots and take to the battlefield in 3-vs-3 matches. Putting its own twist on the beautiful game, two teams race around the pitch to be the first to score three goals in a seven minute match.

Tank Football 2016 is scheduled to run for around a month. During the event, all players will be credited the unique T-62a Sport (T-62a S) with a free Garage slot. To join the event, all you have to do is select your T-62a S and click the Battle! button.

“You may think Tank Football 2016 is a reincarnation of what we had a couple of years ago,” said Anton Pankov, World of Tanks Global Publishing Producer. “However, the game has gone through a lot of changes since then. Tank Football 2016 sticks to the classic 3-vs-3 format, but the new game physics give you a lot more control to pull off great moves. With a new overtime mechanic implemented, games are now even more exciting because there’s no chance of a draw. Every match will have a winner.”

Call of Cthulhu E3 Trailer

Here's the E3 2016 trailer for Call of Cthulhu, Cyanide Studios' upcoming adaptation of the pen-and-paper game based on the works of H.P. Lovecraft. The theme of the clip is: "insanity is the only path for truth," which probably makes perfect sense if you are insane. Here's more:

Cyanide Studio brings to life a disturbing world that players will have to explore and investigate while Cthulhu, the Great Dreamer, prepares its awakening. Today's E3 Trailer offers but a glimpse at all that awaits you.

In Call of Cthulhu, players will control Edward Pierce, a former veteran and private investigator in 1920s Boston. Pierce will be investigating the tragic and mysterious death of Sarah Hawkins and her family in Darkwater Island. The game's E3 Trailer showcases this disturbing Island and the eerie Hawkins Family Mansion, and gives a glimpse at how the intensity of the investigation will slowly start chipping away at your Sanity.

Paragon Open Beta in August

Following the release of the Paragon Essentials Edition with paid access, Epic Games now reveals August 16th is when to expect open beta testing to begin for Paragon, Epic's first-person MOBA. They also unveil Khaimera will be the next character to join the game, saying he's "a dual axe wielding melee fighter and Paragon’s first duelist, a Hero that excels at isolating targets and disrupting team fights with close-up encounters." They offer this trailer showing him off, and say he will join early access on June 21st. Finally, Epic announces a bunch of planned changes for the game, including an all-new draft mode. The Paragon blog has all the details. Continue here to read the full story.

Conan Exiles Early Access in September

Funcom announces September 13th is when they plan to open Early Access to Conan Exiles, Funcom's barbaric MMORPG. The game's Steam page is now online, and offers a post pointing to a reddit AMA with Joel Bylos discussing the project. They also offer a new trailer showing off pre-alpha footage from the game. This post has Funcom's perspective on the news: "We’re very excited (and a bit nervous) about launching our first Early Access title," said Funcom CEO Rui Casais. "The team wants to give the players the best possible experience, and while we are used to working on a game for several years before letting players in, this time around we will let players in just nine months after development started! [...]" Continue here to read the full story.

Street Fighter V Plans

Capcom Unity announces details on plans to patch Street Fighter V, revealing plans for more major updates for the fighting game sequel. This covers plans for in-game currency changes and content update, including a major story expansion coming this month that adds three to four hours of content to the game. Here's word on that:

The SFV Story Expansion is a 3~4 hour experience titled “A Shadow Falls” and will be released at the end of this month as free DLC to all SFV players. The 5 chapter story takes place between Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter III and bridges the events that happen in between the two stories. This is the first time in franchise history that fans will be able to play through this type of cinematic experience in a Street Fighter game.

The Street Fighter V Cinematic Story Expansion, “A Shadow Falls,” depicts the ultimate battle between the evil Shadaloo organization and the heroic World Warriors who rise up against them. Seven “Black Moons” are deployed by Shadaloo, granting M. Bison unimaginable power and enveloping the earth in total darkness. Seeing the moons mysteriously appear in the sky, Ryu, Ken, and Chun-Li embark on an epic journey around the world to retrieve fragment pieces that are the key to stopping the “Black Moons” before it’s too late. Along the way, they encounter the rest of the World Warriors, each of whom have their own agendas and motivations in mind. The final battle between good and evil begins now… who will RISE UP?

The next related piece of awesome news: all six DLC characters are fully playable in the story mode. That’s right, in addition to Alex, Guile, and Ibuki, that means that Balrog, Urien, and Juri are also playable! The official release of these characters will not be until later in the year, which means everyone will get to play them in advance through this mode. For the DLC characters that haven’t been released at the time the story comes out, those characters shouldn’t be considered final or tournament ready, as they still need to be properly polished and balanced. So, think of this as a free preview of the characters and enjoy playing with them before they get officially released in the other competitive game modes.

Finally, you’ll be able to earn Fight Money from completing the story mode as well! A higher difficulty becomes unlocked after clearing the normal mode, which you can also earn extra Fight Money from:

Normal Mode= 30,000 FM
Extra Mode*= 50,000 FM
TOTAL= 80,000 FM

*Extra Mode (higher difficulty) unlocks after you complete Normal mode

Total War: WARHAMMER Trailer

Here's another trailer from Total War: WARHAMMER, showing off more of the fantasy-themed strategy game. This focuses on end-game content, and they kick things off with a warning that this could potentially spoil things for some players. Here's word on The Everchosen vs. The Everwatcher trailer: "Featuring two very powerful Chaos armies, this climactic late-game battle highlights the awesome power of Sarthorael the Everwatcher. Massive in size and with devastating melee attacks thanks to his magical staff, he also wields the devastating Lore of Metal, making him more than a match for even the most powerful Legendary Lords." The Technomancer E3 Trailer

Here's the E3 trailer from The Technomancer, the upcoming science fiction RPG. The game requires you to get your ass to Mars, and the clip shows off the setting, calling it a "barren wasteland," in spite of the fact that it seems heavily populated by exotic space creatures, humans, and Tracer's sister. Here's word:

The Technomancer, the sci-fi RPG set on Mars, releases on June 28 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Today we're showcasing the game's E3 Trailer, driven by the Frijid Pink's legendary cover of the rock classic "House of the Rising Sun". Delve into the chaotic world of Mars, a planet that is torn by war and political conflict.

Mars is a barren wasteland that is home to the forgotten children of Earth. On the surface, warring corporations fight wars from their massive domed cities for one resource: water. Underground, hidden between the crags or in unexplored valleys, you will face factions struggling for their own profit, or mutants permanently changed by the sun's radiation and hated by the rest of humankind.

Out of the Blue

My doctor's appointment went fine yesterday, though I have no answers yet. As I touched on already, the medical profession is not really geared towards assuming the patient knows what's wrong, so I'm a little vindicated that after an examination he decided he wanted to draw blood to do a Lyme titer, which is what I wanted them to do in the first place. I'm feeling almost 100% better now, and I don't know what that means in terms of the likelihood that I am actually, ill, but considering the consequence of ignoring Lyme, I feel happy to have gotten tested. I should have results by Monday at the latest.
