F1 2016 Announced

Codemasters announces F1 2016, the latest installment in their Formula One racing series, saying this "official videogame of the 2016 FIA Formula One World Championship" will come to Windows, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 this summer. There's more on the plan on the Codies Blog where they also offer the first screenshots of the game. They promise this "will include the most immersive career mode ever featured in the franchise," and expand on that with the following specifics:

F1 2016’s new career mode will take drivers deeper into the world’s most glamorous, exciting and prestigious motorsport, both on and off the track. The life-like recreation of the sport will be further enhanced by the addition of the sport’s iconic Safety Car and Virtual Safety Car, as well as the introduction of the challenging new street circuit in Baku, Azerbaijan for the 2016 FORMULA 1 GRAND PRIX OF EUROPE.

“F1 2016 is a massive step forward for the franchise,” said Lee Mather, principal games designer at Codemasters. “The new career mode sits at the heart of the game and allows gamers to create their own legend over a career that can span for up to a massive ten seasons. Beyond improving upon the fastest and most thrilling on-track racing experience in gaming, F1 2016 uniquely offers the drama and vehicle development that goes on behind the scenes. A rich car upgrade system is fully integrated into a new and deep practice development programme which mirrors the tests carried out by the teams in real life.”

Mather continued: “The career mode, together with the re-introduction of the Safety Car, the first inclusion of the Virtual Safety Car and a number of other unannounced improvements means that F1 2016 will have more new features than any other year of the franchise.”

Trinium Wars Goes Free-to-Play

InselGames announces Trinium Wars is now free-to-play on Steam, with the MMORPG retaining the early access label. Here's word from InselGames CEO Patrick Streppel on the game's new business model:

We wanted to inform you short & sweet that as of now our Sci Fi MMORPG Trinium Wars is officially Free2Play.

We have thought long and hard about this major change and while we always kept the business model open in our Early Access FAQ, we were not sure of this until recently. While we had hoped that TW could be sustainable both financially and population-wise in a Buy-to-Play model, it turned out that just to many of you have waited to buy the title (even with the recent discount) or outright neglected it until it is Free-to-Play. In reviews, forum posts and our recent survey we were asked to switch to a free version and we have listened. From now on the basic game will be available for free while we are still selling the Deluxe and Collector's Editions that contain valuable items and in-game currency.

We hope this change will bring a lot of new players into the game to enjoy the Battleground and Resource War with!

Out of the Blue

We had a little outage in the wee hours, apologies for that. And hats off to Frans for getting things straightened out immediately, in spite of the odd hour. The issue last night illustrates how well he has things running since our last hardware and programming fixes, as while we had a software crash, the server uptime is currently at 481 days and counting.

This is the Memorial Day weekend here in the U.S., a somber celebration, as contradictory as that sounds. Here's hoping those of you with plans stay safe and dry, and that all of us can find the time to reflect on the significance of the occasion.
