HITMAN Episode 3 Next Week

The Hitman website announces a May 31st release date for Marrakesh, the third episode in HITMAN, the newest game in IO Interactive's assassination series. This will put you on the Marrakesh Express to undo some of that CSN peace and love with a little contract killing, and it will be available as an individual purchase, or included as part of the Full Experience Pack. In addition to two targets to eliminate, the episode will also include additional gameplay in the exotic new locale:

With Marrakesh also comes a lot more live content for players and the busy markets and locked down consulate will provide us with great settings for our live features. Episode Three has been designed to keep players busy with a wide range of challenges and opportunities. Along with an entirely new setting for Contracts Mode, Marrakesh will also be the location for upcoming Elusive Targets and Escalation Contracts. We're excited to see what you come up with!

New Unreal Tournament Map

Epic Games offers a short teaser trailer and some screenshots to help introduce Underland, a new map for Unreal Tournament, their upcoming shooter remake which is currently available as a free "pre-alpha" release. The clip shows off the new environment, contrasting the violent slow-motion gameplay with the serene strings of Bach's Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D major, which is normally the soundtrack for weddings, and not bloodbaths. This post has more details and a link to the release notes for the new version. Here's word:

Today we released a fully meshed Deathmatch level called Underland with the new Unreal Tournament build. This level is designed for 6 to 8 players who fight across a hidden outpost, once lost for a thousand years, that guards the entrance to the massive Underland caverns.

We asked the community to help rename the prototype level "Tuba" and we'd like to thank forum member Archer6621 for proposing the name Underland. We'll be sending him an Unreal Tournament Swag Bag filled with Epic merchandise for his suggestion!

Planet Coaster Early Bird Alpha 2

Frontier Developments has released Planet Coaster Early Bird Alpha 2, the second version of their early access theme-park simulation for Windows. This adds terrain tools, an advanced construction toolset, and dozens of additional new features as they take the next step toward the game's official release by the end of this year, and they say to expect Alpha 3 with more additions this summer. Those interested in playing the game in its current state can buy it from the Frontier Store for the premium price of $74.99 USD, those interested in the best available price can preorder for $29.99, while those on the fence should expect a retail price of $49.99. Here's word on the new release:

Planet Coaster Alpha 2 takes another major step towards launch. Alpha 2’s new Terrain Sculpting toolset lets players reshape the earth itself, forging hills, mountains, craters and caverns to create something truly unique. Whether building the coaster park of your dreams, re-creating a natural wonder or crafting impossible floating islands in the sky, Planet Coaster lets you bring any creative vision to life.

And Alpha 2 players can now build their own rollercoasters with Planet Coaster’s advanced construction toolset. Planet Coaster Alpha 2 lets players build high into the sky, tunnel below ground and even carve through mountains as they build without limits. Alpha 2 introduces more authentic coaster types, new stations and all-new paint options to offer unprecedented opportunities for customization and creativity.

Planet Coaster Alpha 2 also adds dozens of new features to make construction easier than ever before. Advanced controls allow for precision editing of scenery, all-new building pieces unlock new design options, and new curved elevated paths let guests explore your parks from every angle.

PES 2017 This Fall

The Pro Evolution Soccer 2017 website is online, officially announcing the next installment in Konami's association football/soccer series, saying this will kick off for Windows, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 this autumn in this tweet (the page doesn't seem to have this information yet). They outline a bunch of new features to kick around in the new version, including a bunch of improved game mechanics, upgraded visuals, adaptive AI, and more. Here's what they say about the new AI: "For the first time in a football game, the AI will learn how you play! Player and team behaviour has always been a staple of the PES series, and for PES 2017 Adaptive AI will change sports games forever."

Spellforce 3 Details

Nordic Games offers the first screenshots from Spellforce 3 as well as the first concrete details about the new installment in the series since it was first revealed 18 months ago. At that time they talked about returning the series to its roots, and now they discuss what that means, and how the game will combine RPG and RTS elements. Here's word:

Heroes and Quests
Similar to its successful predecessors, players create their hero from scratch and can then develop the hero’s skills during the campaign, complete quests, explore the game world and join forces with up to three characters to form a group of heroes.

Organic Growth
The map in SpellForce 3 is divided into different sectors. The player’s base won’t grow arbitrarily, but always organically. Concretely, this means that the player can only conquer sectors, which are connected to the base or other, already conquered, sectors. This is important, because there is no “Global Economy”, but the distribution of resources will happen mechanically (resources are being transported via carts). The player can decide which raw materials he wants to collect, distribute and export in each sector and must therefore carefully plan where to build the sectors.

Sector Management
If, for example, the player defeats all the enemies in a particular sector and the bandit camp is captured, he can establish an outpost in this area. The player can then construct buildings in the sectors, exploit raw materials (wood, stone, food, etc.), transport goods and produce resources to then recruit new fighting units. Each outpost has a set number of workers who can be hired, so a core element of the game is to balance the sector economy and manage the sector to ensure the most efficient deployment of the available workers.

Hybrid Gameplay
We don’t want to ignore the RPG component and want players to have the best gaming experience possible with SpellForce 3, so the micro management is not as hectic and fast-paced as in many other RTS games. Players can therefore enjoy both gameplay genres (RTS and RPG) in equal measure.

SpellForce 3 Features

  • RTS/RPG Mix: Unique gameplay combining RTS and Top-Down RPG genres
    • RTS: the RTS part focuses on macromanagement (overall strategy, building a base/economy, conquering of zones, managing large groups of units)
    • RPG: the RPG part puts emphasis on micromanaging the party of heroes (skills of ALL heroes of the party have assigned keyboard bindings) in battles
  • Create & Customize: Assemble your party of heroes and choose between numerous combinations of different skill builds
  • Strengthen and Command Your Army: Prepare your troops and fight the mother of all battles. Moreover, players can utilize a wide array of strategic choices (like e.g. terrain, troop formations, visibility, scouting etc.) that would make Sun Tzu proud
  • Epic Storyline: Unravel a deep and sophisticated story, eventually leading up to the events that cause the world-changing convocation ritual
  • Rich Universe & Lore: Explore the world Eo and discover intrigues, secrets and a lot of loot for your hero
  • Extensive Single-Player Campaign: 30+ hours, even more when you manage to discover all the things Grimlore put in the world
  • Multiplayer: Strong multiplayer component with various modes - Play cooperatively or in versus battles

Bridge Constructor Trains Expansion

Headup Games announces the release of a new Trains expansion pack on Steam for Bridge Constructor, their arcade engineering game. The new add-on further challenges your design abilities by requiring your structures to withstand the rigors of train travel. Here's word on the release, which comes on the fourth anniversary of the launch of the original game:

In celebration of the 4th birthday of the million selling franchise Bridge Constructor, Headup Games and Clockstone Software released a new add-on called 'Trains' today.
Test your construction skills on the new "Choonited Kingdom" island group, with a total of 18 new levels across three islands.
(Not even sorry for that pun. :)
To get the extremely heavy trains secure over beautiful rivers and some dizzying deep ravines, you have to build even stronger bridges this time, or otherwise everything will collapse in a spectacular disaster!

Rocket League Adds PC/Xbox One Cross-Platform Play

Here's the announcement that cross-platform multiplayer support is now in Rocket League, allowing Windows and Xbox One gamers to compete alongside each other in the motorized sports game, which they say is a first. Here's the announcement, which is from yesterday, so everything is now live:

As we promised in March, cross-network play for the Xbox One and Steam PC versions of Rocket League will officially roll-out later this afternoon by 3pm PT/ 6pm ET/ 10pm UTC, making it the first-ever Xbox One game to support cross-network play with a Steam PC game.

Nearly 2 million Xbox One players have already competed in Rocket League since we launched in February 2016, but with today’s new cross-network update, your potential pool of teammates and opponents will grow even larger!

It’s an historic moment for us here at Psyonix[psyonix.com], and we’re really excited to bring Xbox One and Steam PC players closer together. Cross-network play has been something that Xbox One gamers have been asking us for since the day we launched, and thanks to Microsoft’s new cross-network policies, we’re proud to give it to them.

Enjoy the new feature — and remember — you can toggle cross-network play on or off with an easy-to-find check box in the Options menu (see a preview below). Have fun!

Out of the Blue

Just saw a reminder that today is the anniversary of the release of Star Wars, way back before it even had the "A New Hope" subtitle, though this will be a bigger deal next year, as that will be the 40th year since the movie debuted in 1977. 39 years is nothing to sneeze at, and for a little surprising perspective, Star Wars is older now than Gone with the Wind and The Wizard of Oz were when it was brand new.
