A
post about a new anti-cheat patch for Dark Souls III has an update
saying the patch has been removed from Steam because they've discovered it
causes freezing problems in the action/RPG sequel. Here's word: "The patch has
been removed temporarily to fix the freeze issues. We hope to reinstate the
patch ASAP. If you fall victim to one of the bugs previously fixed, don't worry,
you won't be penalized. We will keep you posted as soon as we have more info.
Thank you for your understanding" (thanks
HARDOCP). In other Dark Souls III news,
Eurogamer notes a new mod is available allowing the game to be played from a
first-person perspective.
German developer REAKKTOR STUDIOS announces version 0.95 is now live for
TOXIKK, their upcoming first-person shooter that seeks to recreate the feel
of a some of the seminal games from the genre. They call this the game's
"BIGGEST PATCH EVAH!!!1" (they dig capital letters), as it adds new maps,
characters, and vehicles, along with gameplay changes and bug fixes.
This video shows off
Citidel, one of the two new maps in the patch. There are more details on
TOXIKK.COM,
and the game is currently on sale
on Steam for 33%
off. Continue here to read the full story.
A new animated short
called "Dragons" from Overwatch offers more background on Blizzard's
upcoming multiplayer first-person shooter. Today's clip explores the sibling
rivalry between Hanzo and Genji, as I think we all know which one mom always
liked best. Word is: "'Dragons' explores the history of conflict between the
scions of the Shimada clan: Hanzo and Genji. In this episode, we follow Hanzo as
he returns to the siblings’ family home in Hanamura to seek redemption . . . and
confront the ghosts of the past." Overwatch will launch on May 24th, though
reports say the game may be in stores a day before the servers go live. Continue here to read the full story.
A
Facebook post from NightDive Studios reveals the developer plans to kick off
a Kickstarter at the end of next month for their remastered edition of System
Shock, the beloved action/RPG from Looking Glass (thanks Fantaz). Late last
year they
revealed plans for the remaster, since they acquired the rights to the series
following their enhanced
edition of the game. A couple of months ago
they revealed gameplay footage
from the project, and now they say they will head to Kickstarter on June 29th
for funding support. The System Shock website
has a little more on the plan: After two decades, we are remastering and
re-imagining the original System Shock. We will keep the new game true to the
classic experience, keeping all the things you loved, while updating the user
interface and graphics to use a modern day engine (Unity). With the help of the
original concept artist, the original vision of the Citadel Station and its
inhabitants will finally come back to life.
Battle.net notes that
yesterday was the fourth anniversary of the release of Diablo III, the
latest installment in their action/RPG series. There are no celebratory events
planned, but they offer a little retrospective on the release: Four years
ago, we began a journey across Sanctuary that would forever alter the tide of
the Eternal Conflict. In that time, millions of nephalem have stormed the gates
of the High Heavens, taken down the Prime Evil, and collected more loot than a
treasure goblin could hope to collect.
It’s been one hell of a journey, and we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to
you for being with us every step of the way. Diablo III would not have become
the game it is today without the support of our players, and we’re so thrilled
to share the horrors, magic, and Legendary goodies Sanctuary has to offer with
our community.
The Steam Summer sale will run from June 23rd through the fourth of July, if a
post on reddit is to be believed. This shows a communication allegedly from
Valve on the topic, which has been shared, even though it is clearly marked as
"confidential." This is not confirmed, but does serve as possible advance
warning of when to hide your wallet from yourself. Thanks

The new DOOM debuts at number one on the
GFK Chart-Track PC top 30 list of the bestselling PC games in the U.K. for
the week ending May 14th. Football Manager 2016 drops to number two,
while Stellaris joins the chart at number six. On the
all platforms chart DOOM enters at number two, while Uncharted 4: A
Thief's End is the new top performer. Here's more on
the news: PS4
welcomes Nathan Drake to the next generation as ‘Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End’
debuts at No1.
It’s both the first and final new adventure to arrive on PS4 for developer
Naughty Dogs’ flagship series (although the remastered trilogy came to PS4 in
October last year). In terms of debut week sales ‘Uncharted 4’ is by far the
most successful launch in the series beating ‘Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception
debut week by 66%. It marks an excellent few weeks for Sony with their platform
exclusives (Ratchet & Clank (-50% now at No4 being the other) taking the crown
in 3 of the last 4 weeks. Bethesda Softworks ‘Doom’ also arrives this week
comfortably making its debut at No2. It’s the first outing on PS4 and Xbox One
for the series and another strong debut with sales up 67% on Doom 3. ‘Call of
Duty: Black Ops III’ (-46%) makes way for the new releases dropping a place to
No3. A pair of former chart topping titles in Ubisoft’s ‘Tom Clancy’s: The
Division’ (-32%) and ‘Far Cry Primal’ (-33%) sit at No5 and No6 respectively.
Strong sales for ‘Star Wars Battlefront’ (+28%) ensure it climbs back in to the
Top 10 at No10 after a two week absence.

Gemstone Keeper -- Steam Greenlight. "Gemstone Keeper is a 2D topdown
dungeon crawler where you explore caves and caverns, defending yourself
against the creatures that reside and go as deep as you can to collect the
rare and hard to find gemstones. Any minerals and gems you find deep in the
caverns will earn you enough money to afford better weapons, items and other
advantages to go as far down as possible to find the rarest and elusive
stones to become the ultimate Gemstone Keeper."
Didn't get out to the movies this weekend, so that project is still a
work-in-progress. It was pretty lovely out though, and a fine time was had by
all. Hope it was good for you too.
