Archived News:
The Battlefield website has the
official announcement of Battlefield 1, a World War I first-person
shooter coming to Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on October 21st, though
the
preorder page on Origin also lists a deluxe edition of the game that
includes three days of early access among its perks. They offer an
official reveal trailer
showing the setting that some have argued would never be the subject of a AAA
first-person shooter, and the following word: You look into the distance
and see planes torn apart by gunfire, their debris raining down over London. In
war-torn France to the east, horrible armored tanks tear holes in walls as they
roll through crumbling cities. To the south, past the burning Italian coast, men
charge over the sand dunes of the Arabian Desert, armed to the teeth with the
most powerful weaponry the world has ever seen. This is what the dawn of all-out
war looks like, and it's Only in Battlefield 1.
Battlefield 1 is releasing worldwide on October 21, 2016 for Xbox One, Origin on
PC, and PlayStation 4 but you'll be able to get your hands on it much sooner.
More on that in a minute.
With Battlefield 1 we set out to create some of the largest, most dynamic
battles in FPS history while continuing to tap into what fans love most about
the franchise. One of the things that makes World War I such an amazing era is
just how advanced it really was. Almost everything that you know about the
conflicts of the next century, from the massive battles across land, air and
sea, to the powerful and efficient weaponry, is there. Tanks, planes, machine
guns, artillery – a lot of the tech you've used in other Battlefield games was
perfected during this era, letting the classic Battlefield DNA shine through.
You'll be able to join in massive 64-player battles and experience unexpected
Only in Battlefield moments in a setting where the old world was destroyed,
giving way to the new one. We're turning destruction up a few notches too, so
expect some surprises when you hit the battlefield.
If you're eager to go hands-on with Battlefield 1 you won't have to wait too
long. During the EA Play events on June 12 in Los Angeles and London, we'll
reveal the first gameplay footage and let attendees try the game for themselves.
Register and make your way to those events, and you'll be able to play the game
before pretty much anyone else.
EA Play won't be your only opportunity to play before release, though. There
will be more chances in the months that follow, including an Open Beta (which
you can get into a little earlier if you sign up for Battlefield Insider). EA
Access and Origin Access members will be able to play for a limited time before
the release date, too. And if you pre-order the Early Enlister Deluxe Edition,
you’ll be able to start playing on October 18, three days before the release
date.

RPG Codex notes that White Wolf has filed for a computer game trademark for
Vampire Bloodlines, saying they have never previously trademarked the
name. This spawned a discussion of the state of the rights to this property, and
how likely it is someone will develop a new game in the series. One factor in
that is the poor sales of Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, which
basically killed developer Troika Games. Thanks

A
post on Battle.net reveals Blizzard's immediate plans for Heroes of the Storm,
their MOBA/team brawler, including upcoming new content and a complete revamp to ranked
play that will roll out next month. They unveil two new heroes: Chromie, the game's first representative of the Azeroth
Dragonflights who will come on May 17th, and Medivh, a powerful ranged
specialist coming on June 14th. They also show off new mounts and skins in the
works. In a
separate post, they elaborate on previously revealed plans to revamp ranked
play, saying the first official ranked season will launch in
all regions the week of June 14th, following the conclusion of the preseason
that's been running since the game's beta phase. Seasons will be about a month,
though season one may be longer. They outline a new ranking system that includes tiers
and divisions and the promised Master and Grand Master distinctions for those
who compete at the highest levels. Each season will begin with 10 placement
matches, though current MMR standings will be used as a "loose guideline" for
initial tier and division placement, and once out of the placement phase, only
players within one league tier of each other will be able to queue together. They also show off new badges and say
rank dependent rewards will come at the conclusion of each season for both Hero League and Team League. In the meantime, they
lay out the rewards they
will hand out to players based on their highest ranks during the preseason,
including special portraits and mounts.

Apparently oblivious to the previous
teasing and
countdown to an
announcement about the future of the Battlefield series, the
EA Access Twitter feed seems to have inadvertently revealed the title of
this to be Battlefield 5 (thanks
The Escapist). Word is: "Correct, it was a surprise for members to celebrate
the Battlefield 5 event tomorrow!" This is not the most surprising slip ever,
but it seems to confirm we will not be getting Battlefield Bad Company 3
or Battlefield Hardline 2 at this time. The livestream revealing the game
comes at 4:00 pm EDT today, but they are leading up to that with an
all-day stream on Twitch
celebrating the event (thanks
PCGamesN).
A
post to the Overwatch Forums from Blizzard game director Jeff Kaplan
discusses how things will change between the end of open beta testing on May 9th
and the official launch of the multiplayer shooter on May 24th (thanks
VG247). Word is the version being played now is essentially the same as the
release version, with the exception of competitive mode, which is getting a lot
of changes at the moment. A
previous
post notes the competitive mode will not be live for the game's launch,
saying: "Our plan is to bring back a newly re-designed version of Competitive
Play sometime after Overwatch launches." Word is they are already working on "a
TON" of free content to release after the game: Yes. The version you are
playing now is what will go live at launch (there will be some bug fixes
etc...). We also have Competitive Play, which was a feature that was live in
Closed Beta. We removed it from Open Beta because we received a ton of great
feedback on how to improve the system. We had a tough choice. It would have been
awesome to have the feature in for Open Beta and Launch. But we felt like we
could really improve on some things so we opted to have the feature come out
shortly after launch. We're hoping that our efforts in the Closed Beta to try to
get things done quickly and at high quality aren't lost on our community -- but
we also never want to sacrifice the quality of the game by putting something
live that isn't up to our standards.
We're also working on a TON of post-launch features and content. It's going to
be a pretty amazing summer...
Today is the release date for Project CARS: Game of the Year Edition, a
re-release of the racing game, as the industry has not grown cynical enough to
declare a GotY upon initial launch (yet). The
Project CARS website offers a
new trailer, and
here's word on how new customers will get a better version of the game than
those who fuelled its success: Featuring all the elements that made the
original core experience a runaway success, the Game Of The Year Edition adds
even more to what is already the definitive racing sim:
- An additional 50+ cars (125 total)
- 4 tracks (35 unique locations, 100+ layouts total)
- 60+ community-created liveries
- 500+ features and improvements that have been
added since launch
In addition, the Game Of The Year Edition features two distinctive and
exclusive items:
- The iconic Nurburgring Combined Nordschieife + GP
circuit
- Two Project CARS exclusive vehicles from Pagani –
the Zonda Revolucion and Huayra BC unveiled at this year’s Geneva Motor Show
The Project CARS Game Of The Year edition is now available on the PC,
Playstation 4, and Xbox One.
A new video from
Paragon shows off GRIM.exe, a new Paragon character coming to the early
access MOBA on May 10th. Here's word on the character's role in the game:
"Today, Epic Games revealed the next Hero coming to Paragon: GRIM.exe, a ranger
that controls a sentry robot who executes his every command. Use his pulse
cannon to deal damage to minions and enemy Heroes, slow enemies or knock them
back with his shield, or execute his Gyro Targeted Force Orb, his ultimate that
hones to a target while passing through objects and non-Hero units." Continue here to read the full story.

Nerd Leaks,
GameSpot collects a few clues suggesting that Agents of Mayhem is the
title of the next game from Volition, the Deep Silver-owned developer of the
Saints Row series. Most telling is a European trademark filing, though they also
note the title has appeared on a couple of résumés as well. They contacted
Volition and Deep Silver for comment, but so far have received no replies.
Took the Gunnar-man to a new vet this week. As part of the procedure, they
offered a complimentary bath, which I decided to go for. Being a poodle, he
requires constant grooming, something that I'm in charge of, and I have to admit
to not sticking to the "constant" part the way I should, so it's not like he
couldn't use one. He was super-resistant at first, but they were very nice to
him, and by the end he was just eating up all the attention he got. This is a
turning point for us, and I think I'll just be taking him back there for future
grooming. I enjoyed the bonding of washing and trimming the dog, but we're not
really set up for it, and crawling around on the floor starts to get old when
you start to get old.
