Respawn Developing a Star Wars Game

A post by EA celebrates Star Wars day with the revelation that Respawn Entertainment (Titanfall) is developing a third-person action/adventure game set in the Star Wars universe. There's more on the news on the Respawn blog where there's a letter from Stig Asmussen calling the project "the chance of a lifetime," and noting they are adding staff to help complete the game. Here's more of what he has to say:
But it’s not all fun and games — we promise to pay respect to the Star Wars legacy at all times, a fact that will be constantly reinforced and honored as a central game design tenet. Fans should expect the exemplary level of quality first established at Respawn with Titanfall, a game that epitomizes our studio’s dedication to slick, larger-than-life action and fun, groundbreaking mechanics. Moving forward, we couldn’t ask for a better universe in which to continue this journey, and although I would love to share all of the exciting places we are going, we have the following piece of information to divulge with you all today:

We’ll be making a third-person action/adventure game set in the Star Wars universe.

Now, I understand on the surface this might sound a bit dry, but developing a game within the ever-expanding Star Wars universe opens up so many paths for us to go down, and an unparalleled playground to design within. We have already planted the seeds by assembling a small, but incredibly talented team, ready for the amazing journey that lies ahead. With this in mind we are looking to expand the dream.

Warhammer: End Times – Vermintide: Drachenfels DLC This Month

Fatshark announces Drachenfels, a new DLC pack coming to Warhammer: End Times – Vermintide, showing they haven't lost their touch with catchy titles. The pack will come on May 26th, and will imbue the game with three new maps and more additional content. Here's word on what this will add:
Today independent developer Fatshark announced a new DLC with the name Drachenfels for their hit game Warhammer: End Times – Vermintide.

“Players get to explore three brand new levels around the abandoned Castle Drachenfels.“ says Martin Wahlund, CEO of Fatshark and continues “Drachenfels also introduces deadly traps and torches to help navigate the pitch black dungeons”

The Drachenfels DLC will be released on May 26, and contains three new levels set outside of Ubersreik. Fight your way through the halls of Castle Drachenfels, dodge the deadly traps and navigate The Dungeons with the help of a torch, and stop the Skaven from completing their vile plans at Summoner’s Peak.

Warhammer: End Times – Vermintide has sold over half a million copies to PC, and will reach consoles later this year. Two free DLCs has been released, and this is the second DLC that comes with a price tag – which will be announced closer to release.

Key Features

  • Castle Drachenfels - Walk through the ancient rooms of Castle Drachenfels, covered in the blood and bones of the past.
  • Summoner’s Peak - Foil the Skaven’s plan by destroying the Nurgle portals and put a halt to their reinforcements.
  • The Dungeons - Stumble your way through the dark and dingy dungeon of Drachenfels, avoiding traps and using torches to light your way through the darkness.

Moto Racer 4 Detailed

Microïds and Artefacts Studio announce details about Moto Racer 4, saying the next installment in the racing series will come to Windows and OS X as well as PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in October of this year. Word is: "Developed using Unreal Engine 4, "Moto Racer 4" has revived the craze for the winning formula that made the original trilogy so successful. High-speed races on powerful bikes alternate with motocross on more nimble machines for a white-knuckle ride that remains playable despite the need for technical prowess, with rules of fair-play often put to one side." Here's more:
With over 7 million units sold and critical acclaim both in the specialist press and among gamers, the first "Moto Racer" trilogy has left an indellible mark on the history of video games. Developed by Delphine Software, one of the great studios of the 90s and 2000s, it is still synonymous for many with extreme gaming pleasure and fierce multi-player contests.

"Moto Racer 4", which is still developed by Microïds and Artefacts Studio, under the supervision of its original designer, Paul Cuisset, will include no less than 15 single and multiplayer game modes. In addition to regular fixtures such as the Time Trial, Single Race and Championship, here are a few examples of what to expect:

  • KING OF THE HILL: Each rider starts with the same time on the clock. While time runs down for the leader, the other racers get extra turbo. The first player to get their counter down to zero wins the race.
  • LAST MAN STANDING: The last player to pass each checkpoint is eliminated.
  • SURVIVAL: The race starts with very little time on the clock. Players gain time by passing the checkpoints. In single-player mode, the aim is to survive for a specific length of time. In multi-player mode, the winner is the last player with time left on their clock.
  • CATCH-UP: The player's opponents begin the race with a headstart and the player must be in first place at a specific time.
  • WOLF PACK: The player begins the race with a headstart and must maintain it for a certain length of time without being overtaken.
  • GHOST BIKE: The player starts the race in last place and is not allowed to deviate from the road or collide with others. S/he must finish in a specified minimum place.
  • GOLDEN HELMET: Competitors must earn the one golden helmet up for grabs during the race. To do this, they must be first past the initial checkpoint. If the player wearing the golden helmet is knocked by another player, s/he surrenders it to that player. If a player falls off their bike, s/he loses the helmet and it is automatically sent to the next checkpoint.

The pitch here is super-short: "Developed by id software, the studio that pioneered the first-person shooter genre and created multiplayer Deathmatch, DOOM returns as a brutally fun and challenging modern-day shooter experience."
