SEGA announces Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III, a IIIrd installment in
Relic's sci-fi RTS series, and the Dawn of
War website reflects the announcement, offering an
announcement trailer.
The game doesn't yet carry a release date, as the announcement doesn't include
loads of details: At long last, the sun rises on a new age of battle!
Relic Entertainment and SEGA Europe Ltd. today announced Warhammer 40,000: Dawn
of War III, the long-awaited third instalment of the critically-acclaimed
real-time strategy franchise. The loyal are rewarded!
Dawn of War III immerses players in the escalating brutality of galactic
warfare, where they will lead elite hero units and colossal armies to victory,
or oblivion. Powerful super-walkers will tower over the front lines as
screen-shaking assaults blister the battlefield in an all-out, over-the-top
spectacle worthy of the iconic Games Workshop® Warhammer 40,000 universe.
Building on 12 years of explosive gameplay, Dawn of War III combines the epic
scale of Dawn of War, with the customization and elite heroes of Dawn of War II.
The result is a best-in-class edition giving players the rich strategic
experience, stunning visuals, and catastrophic surprises that they’ve come to
expect as Relic brings the franchise into the modern era.
“This is the Dawn of War that fans have been waiting for,” said Stephen
MacDonald, the title’s Executive Producer. “Our biggest units ever? Check. Giant
orbital lasers? Check. Base-building, epic heroes, huge battles, it’s all in
there. Get ready for the biggest Dawn of War yet. For the Emperor!”
In an announcement trailer released on the official Dawn of War III
YouTube Channel this morning, Relic
revealed the devastating forces of Space Marines, Eldar, and Orks locked in
battle, slipping ever deeper into the darkness of endless war.
With previous instalments released prior to Relic’s acquisition in 2013, Dawn of
War III will be a landmark release for Relic: its first main title produced
entirely as a SEGA®-owned studio.
“This announcement is a big moment for all of us at Relic, and at SEGA,” said
Justin Dowdeswell, General Manager at Relic. “We’re setting the bar for what we
can achieve, and showing players what they can expect from us in the future.
This is just the beginning.” Continue here to read the full story.

Celebrating tomorrow's Star Wars Day,
GOG.com announces sales on two different Star Wars collections, offering up
to 77% off on the
Blaster
Bundle and the
Saber Bundle.
One game not in either package is
Star Wars:
Shadows of the Empire, as this 1996 third-person shooter has just been
launched on the service, though
they
say it carries a 20% launch discount. As noted
on Polygon (thanks nin), games have long been requesting GOG.com release a
version of this game playable on modern systems, as even those who have access
to the Win95 discs for the original have trouble running it without encountering
frequent crashes.
Steam News announces
changes in how customer reviews are displayed for games on Steam to better
reflect the current state of each game. There are a few other changes along the
way, including a way to more easily disclose when a review copy was given for
free. Here's the summary: One common theme we've been seeing in customer
feedback about the Steam review system is that it isn't always easy to tell what
the current experience is like in a game months after release. This new set of
changes released today is designed to better describe the current customer
experience in those games. We do this by better exposing the newly posted
reviews and by calculating a summary of those recent reviews.

hints to the other four characters. These characters are only just entering
development and may change before their arrival in the Solus System. Continue here to read the full story.
The
Blood Bowl Website announces the release of new DLC for Blood Bowl 2 adding
the Norse race to the fantasy-themed sports sequel. This is the first of several
founder's incentive packs that are free to all who purchase the game before the
DLC is released. Here's word on what this adds to the game: Hailing from
a far north peninsula of the Old World, Norsca, the Norse are fearsome warriors
who naturally benefit from the Block skill – making a Norse line one of the more
resilient Blood Bowl defensive walls. Norse players also have low Armour value,
meaning they’re built for dishing out damage, not taking it. We’re excited to
see how new Norse Coaches plan around the team’s weaknesses and exploit their
strengths.
The Norse DLC pack includes new types of players, including the Ulfwerener.
These werewolves encourage damage-dealing plays with their high Strength and
their brutal Frenzy skill. The Norse Big Guy is the Yhetee, a vicious Snow Troll
with Claws built for shredding high armoured players. Finally, two Star Players
are joining the Norse: Icepelt Hammerblow, Yhetee, and Wilhelm Chaney,
Ulfwerener.
The
Dark Souls Reddit and
Steam Forums are abuzz with word of a new exploit that's possibly being used
to harass Dark Souls III players.
MCV has sorted though this, explaining that it seems someone has hacked a
way to grant enemy players more souls, and since artificial soul inflation is
one of the things examined by the game's anti-cheat system, these players end up
being soft-banned. There are warnings to avoid playing with a specific user, who
is said to be livestreaming his exploits.

After a day off for May Day, GfK Chart-Track is back with their weekly charts of
game sales in the U.K. On the
PC top 30 chart for the week ending April 30th Football Manager 2016
manages to kick The Sims 4 out of the top spot. On the
all-platforms chart, Ratchet & Clank manages to hold the top spot for
another week. Here's the
summary of all the action: ‘Ratchet & Clank’ (-49%) holds on to No1
in the All Formats Chart for a second week.
The last Sony title to do this was ‘The Last of Us: Remastered’ back in W32
2014. ‘Ratchet & Clank’ is also the 7th biggest Sony first-party PS4 launch and
gives Sony PS4 exclusive titles a total of 8 weeks at No1 compared to
Microsoft’s 5 weeks for Xbox One first-party exclusive titles. PS4 retailer
hardware bundling alongside the recent launch of ‘Eclipse’ the first new DLC,
help propel ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops III’ (+82%) up five places to No2, its
highest chart position since it topped the chart back in week 7. ‘Dark Souls
III’ (-29%) slips one place to No3, while ‘Tom Clancy’s The Division’ (-5%) and
‘EA Sports UFC 2’ (+2%) are both non-movers at 4 and 5 respectively.
Spring and Bank Holiday retailer promotions push three titles back in to the Top
10 with reappearances for ‘Lego Marvel Avengers’ (+45%) up from No11 to No6,
‘Grand Theft Auto V’ (+33%) up from No12 to No8 and ‘Far Cry Primal’ (+53%) up
from No17 to No9. The only new entry this week is Nintendo’s ‘Yo-Kai Watch’ for
3DS which debuts at No14. Retailer promotions extend to the rest of the Top 40
with most titles seeing sales boosts. In fact ¾ of all Top 40 titles experience
sales increases this week.

Well my phone/internet switchover continues to be rough, as the companies
involved don't seem capable of properly providing the services that I need,
which may be part of the reason that most customers are getting rid of them.
They certainly don't make it hard to want to cut the cord when they basically
cut it for you. I'm complaining too much, as actually I think everything may be
worked out as of this morning. Yesterday the flaky phone line "healed" itself
before the scab repair technician had to come out, so that was easy, though why
it started working after being out all weekend remains a mystery. This meant
everything was working, except we then discovered our whole home DVR service got
shut off at some point. A call to Cablevision confirms this was done by
accident, and had something to do with us having a grandfathered rate they no
longer provide. They say this is fixed now, but will take a couple of hours to
come back. The good news is they claim we didn't lose any recorded shows due to
their centralized design, but I'll believe that when I see it.
My favorite bizarro tidbit from the process? Finding Verizon wants to charge
$5.00 extra per month to not list a phone number in public directories. We
truly live in miraculous times.
