Out of the Blue

I think last year's Heroes of the Dorm was the first tourney I watched, and I recall being astounded at the time that the broadcast of the games had the minimap turned off. The series returned to actual TV last night (well sort of, it was on ESPNU, a bare step up from "The Ocho") and while there was a mini-map, for some reason they removed most of the actual information and made a new superficial map out of what appear to be 50x50 pixels. I understand they are trying to create understanding and comfort for people unfamiliar with current gaming, but I'm not sure giving the minimap a makeover removing all that detail actually helps, unless they think they need to appeal to people who haven't seen a game since Pong?
