Developer nDreams announces The Assembly is coming this summer to Oculus
Rift and HTC Vive, offering a game specifically designed for VR headsets.
The nDreams website has details plans to
show the game off between now and its official release. Here's a quick primer:
Built from the ground up as a perfect introduction to VR, The Assembly
offers an experience where perspectives shift, the truth is never clear, and a
question is always left open: When does the end justify the means?
But what is the Assembly hiding? What will it sacrifice in the name of progress?
And how far will it go to keep its operation a secret?
The game centres around the eponymous Assembly, an enigmatic collective that has
hidden itself from the world so as to conduct its experiments outside the
constraints of government scrutiny and society’s morals.
That’s for players to uncover by taking on the role of two different
protagonists, who both have the chance to shake the foundations of this
mysterious organisation.

A
post to the Square Enix forums announces an end is coming to Nosgoth,
saying what was planned as a free-to-play competitive multiplayer spin-off of
Legacy of Kain will not ever graduate from early access, and will go offline
on May 31st (thanks
Eurogamer). The game be downloaded and played for free between now and then,
and word is any purchases made since March 1st will be refunded. Here's word:
It is with a heavy heart and an immense sense of sadness that we must
announce the end of Nosgoth’s development. Servers will continue to run until
31st May 2016, during which time you will be able to play the game as normal.
After that date, Nosgoth will be taken offline for the last time.
This was not an easy decision to come to. It has been a pleasure to build this
game with your help, but ultimately its audience hasn’t grown enough to sustain
ongoing operations.
On behalf of the entire Nosgoth team we want to thank you all for your feedback,
support and dedication to the game throughout Nosgoth’s life.

Aqua Moto Racing Utopia -- Steam Greenlight. "Aqua Moto Racing Utopia
has interactive water, a stunt system that lets you string stunts together
for maximum points and a level of immersion that is so far unprecedented in
the Wave Rider genre."
Eurogamer takes a look at Quantum Break, discussing technical problems with
Remedy's just-released PC version of the third-person shooter, saying "to suggest that the results are disappointing would be a massive
understatement." They discuss framerate and image quality issues, and draw
the conclusion that more development time would have been necessary to deliver a
proper experience. They also offer
this video with a
breakdown of how the game plays on NVIDIA and AMD hardware, saying: "John and
Rich assess the train wreck that is the PC version of Quantum Break. We feel
that Remedy can resolve most of these issues, but what's clear is that the game
needed more time in development - while UWP is proving to be a real issue. And
what's up with Nvidia's driver?" Here's more: In situations like
this, it's hard not to sympathise with the developer to a certain extent - and
it's an especially surprising situation as Remedy is well known for delivering
excellent PC products. But perhaps this port simply needed more time to adapt
into a series of new systems imposed on it - Quantum Break makes use of the
relatively new DirectX 12 API and it has to cope with UWP too. The game's core
design is tailored to squeeze every ounce of performance out of the Xbox One
console. While Microsoft's universal approach to app development is designed
specifically to enable easier cross-platform development, it's clear that
high-end games still require special care.
While we feel for Remedy, the reality is that Microsoft is still asking
customers to fork out £49.99 for a game that just doesn't work as it should.
When a PC equipped with the fastest hardware available falls short of the
consistency offered by a far less capable console, you know there's something
wrong. There's the sense that this game needed more focus, a lot more testing,
and - in Nvidia's case - better drivers. But Microsoft has to bear
responsibility too: several of the issues encountered here are a direct result
of UWP's lack of features and quality, to the point where even downloading and
installing the game is a trial. Continue here to read the full story.
A new The Empire vs Chaos
Warriors Let's Play video is an in-house let's play showing off new gameplay
from Total War: WARHAMMER. Here's the rundown of what this shows us:
"This first-look at the Chaos Warriors showcases a range of Chaos units, from
core infantry such as Chaos Marauders and Warriors, to higher-tier monstrosities
such as the Chaos Giant and the brutal Helcannon – a foul instrument which
transmutes souls into flesh-searing bolts of arcane energy and hurls them into
the enemy ranks. Accompanied with developer commentary, this land battle also
showcases spells from the Lore of Light and Lore of Fire as the two armies clash
on the frigid plains of Norsca." Continue here to read the full story.

Had an interesting gaming experience yesterday, as I was playing some Heroes
of the Storm with a couple of buddies and they decided to play as Cho'gall
because we were going to play one more game before we got off. They'd done
this a couple of times before, and the outcome of the two of them in one hero
was not usually optimal, but it was always comically entertaining. We got in a
game and immediately noticed that we're against a five-player premade team, and
the names were all strikingly familiar: MFPallytime, Hengest, KiyeBerries,
Rurikhan, and Koala. Unless someone had made up a team of theme imposters, we
were playing against the TGN
Squadron, full-time game streamers. I'm actually a big Pallytime fan and
view Squadron streams all the time, so I was skeptical this was actually them
since they usually do group games for fun as custom matches with their viewers,
but it turns out they were trying something a little different, and this was
real. Quickmatch comps can easily be mismatches because of blind hero picks, and
we were certainly being 1000% more tryhard about this than they were, but we are
still very proud to say we pulled out the victory! Not only that, but they
spent a lot of the match singing the praises of our Cho'gall, with Hengest at
one point calling them "best Cho'gall player NA" and wondering if they queued
all the time as that character and practiced (nothing could be further from the
truth). I did my part dishing out some damage as Lunara, though based on our comp part
of the game I was relegated to the role of off lane-soak during the objectives,
so I missed out on some of the prime action. I killed Pallytime a couple of
times, and he did at one point say "I'm not going to be able to grab Lunara
unless she makes a mistake," but I think that was more about the character's
movement than me taking him to juke city (as it turned out, his only
successful pulls on me came as part of cc chains). All in all this was a huge
thrill for a gamer nerd. :) You can see the match in
this recording of the
stream, it was the first game they played. Hey Squadron... anytime you want
a rematch, just let us know! :)
