Defiant Development announces Hand of Fate 2, a sequel to their crowdfunded
virtual card game they say will come to Windows, OS X, and Linux in Q1 of next
year. Here's the announcement, though the included Steam page isn't live yet:
Hand of Fate 2, the sequel to Defiant Development's hit title with more
than 1.9 million downloads, will shuffle a wealth of new tricks into its deck
when it debuts on Windows, Mac and Linux in Q1 2017.
Like the original Hand of Fate, the sequel will require players to overcome
trials built from collectible cards handed out by the dealer. A new map based
meta-game allows players to discover and unlock those challenges in completely
new ways. Gamers are tested through third-person combat, dangerous exploration,
tense minigames, deck-building and Dungeons & Dragons-style decisions.
Although players previously faced the dealer's traps on their own, adventurers
can earn and fight beside companions in Hand of Fate 2. Companions offer support
in combat, provide exclusive options in the RPG portions and the board game
sections, in addition to having their own storylines.

As promised, today is the launch day for Good Robot, a roguelike,
side-scrolling shooter.
This trailer provides a look at our protagonist doing battle with a host of
bad robots looking to prevent him from doing his job. Here's the pitch: Responding
to public outcry and the threat of malfunctioning robot mayhem, PyroCorp today
launched the last Good Robot to neutralize the bad robots that have been killing
so many humans. While the Good Robot is only as capable as its controller,
PyroCorp assures the public that it is in a good position to eliminate all of
the bad robots in this fast-paced, roguelike, shoot ‘em up environment with
procedurally generated sci-fi labyrinths.
“We’d like to assure humanity that PyroCorp has the situation under control”,
said PyroCorp CEO Arvind Yadav. “It is true that our Good Robot has been
engineered from burnt out toasters due to equipment shortages, but it is still a
superior fighter compared to the bad robots – most of whom are probably tripping
over their own flamethrower attachments. Provided our remote fighters do their
job, we can assure the public that we will soon have total containment”. Continue here to read the full story.

Sorcery! Part 3: The Seven Serpents is now available for Windows and OS X
on
Green Man Gaming,
Humble
Store, and Steam,
offering a new installment in this "epic open-world narrative adventure." This
will conclude later this year with the release of part four, "The Crown of
Kings." Here's word on part three: Spun off from the popular gamebooks of
the 1980s, Steve Jackson's Sorcery! is a narrative game with a massively
branching, choice-driven storyline. With the city of Kharé at your back and the
sacred Crown of Kings driving you forward, Sorcery! Part 3: The Seven Serpents
provides the toughest challenge yet as you attempt to cross the cruel, cursed
wasteland of Kakhabad.
Inspired by inkle's globe-trotting adventure 80 Days, Sorcery! Part 3 is a
non-linear game that lets players plot a unique path across two gorgeous 3D maps
and shape the narrative with every decision made. With rations dwindling and
seven deadly serpents stalking you through a barren desert, only the most
resourceful heroes will survive. And with no set path to follow and time itself
rippling like a flag on the wind, your quest could lead you around in circles --
or a thousand years into the past.
In this highly flexible interactive narrative, every choice comes at a price and
many will impact Sorcery!'s climactic final chapter... that is, if you survive
to reach it. A standalone download (not DLC), Sorcery! Part 3 can be enjoyed
fresh or as a continuation of previous Sorcery! installments, with
cross-platform cloud saves enabling the consequences of your past choices to be
woven into the story.
Damn! Daum Games announces
Black
Desert Online has sold over 400,000 copies in the first month following the
release of the MMORPG, and that the game boasts an average of 100,000 concurrent
users: Daum Games today announced that Black Desert Online has sold
400.000 copies in its first month on the European and North American markets.
Black Desert Online is expected to become one of Korea's most successful games
in the West as it is drawing exceptionally favorable early responses with its
new player base.
"Considering the upward trend, I expect that the game will achieve over one
million sales this year. What’s impressive is these figures far exceed those in
the domestic market," Daum Games Europe CEO Min Kim said in an interview in
Seoul, last Wednesday.
Daum Games attributes much of the success to adopting a premium business model
for Western audiences as opposed to the free-to-play model used in Korea. After
purchasing the game once, players have access to all content updates for free as
they become available. Daum Games is planning to catch up on the Korean service
by delivering near-monthly content updates for European and North American
players to enjoy.
Furthermore, Black Desert Online’s cash shop is also performing extremely well.
"A game with a buy-to-play business model normally has a much lower conversion
rate for paid in-game items compared to free-to-play games," explains Kim. "But
Black Desert Online is recording a much higher pay ratio than the average 11
percent normally seen in free-to-play games."
Black Desert Online now boasts an average of 100.000 concurrent users.
AMD now offers new Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.4.1 Windows drivers
(thanks
HARDOCP). These offers owners of AMD graphics cards support for Quantum

(which, like the check, are in the mail). Here's word on what these will and
will not fix:

Break™ on Radeon™ R9 Fury X than with Radeon™ Software Crimson Edition
16.3.2(1).

- Frame rate capping issues experienced in some
DirectX®12 applications is resolved.
- Hitman™ may experience flickering when played in
DirectX® 11 mode using high game shadow settings.
Known Issues
- A few game titles may fail to launch or crash if
the AMD Gaming Evolved overlay is enabled. A temporary workaround is to
disable the AMD Gaming Evolved "In Game Overlay"
- Need For Speed™ may experience poor scaling or
flickering in AMD Crossfire™ mode. As a work around users can disable the
profile through the Radeon™ Settings game manager.
- The Division™ may experience flickering in AMD
Crossfire™ mode.

showing up for some unsupported products.
- XCOM2™ users may experience an application crash
when using AMD Crossfire™ mode. As a work around please disable AMD
Crossfire™ for the games profile in the Radeon™ Settings Gaming tab.
- Some DX9 applications cannot disable AMD
Crossfire™ mode through Radeon™ Settings.
- A small subset of AMD Radeon™ R9 380 users may be
experiencing slower than expected fan speeds. A work around is to raise your
fan speeds through AMD Overdrive in Radeon™ Settings manually to a desired

Paradox Interactive now offers Mare Nostrum, the new expansion for
Europa Universalis IV, their grand strategy sequel. They say this adds a
bunch of improvements and updates to the game, with a particular emphasis on
naval operations. This
previously released trailer offers a look at the add-on and offers thoughts
on it from designer Johan Andersson, and you can find more details on the
game's
product. section. Here's word on the expansion and an accompanying patch for
the base game: Mare Nostrum is the newest expansion DLC for Europa
Universalis IV, Paradox Development Studio’s best-selling grand strategy game
set in the adventurous days of the Age of Exploration, the Renaissance and the
wars of Reformation and Revolution. Mare Nostrum adds a number of improvements
and updates to the game, bringing more control and detail to the naval game.
Features include:
- Naval Missions: Naval interface improved to
make control of your fleets less hands-on and more mission oriented
- Barbary Raids: The Berber nations of North
Africa can raid their neighbors for money and extra sailors
- New Espionage System: Build a spy network
and call on it to undertake actions in enemy lands
- Trade Leagues: Merchant republics can
recruit minor nations into their Trade League for common defence and, more
importantly, common riches
- Condottieri: Rent out your army so it can
fight someone else’s wars while you earn gold
And, as always, the expansion DLC is accompanied by a massive update that is
free to every Europa Universalis IV player – even if they never buy Mare
Nostrum. This update will include an updated map, a new state system to organize
your nation, tweaks to naval combat and the introduction of sailors to man your
ships. Continue here to read the full story.
Some controversy has arisen surrounding last
week's release of the new Siege of Dragonspear expansion for
Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition as fans react to bugs and other gameplay
issues in the add-on as well as a perceived political agenda in the game's
story.
TechRaptor has an updated story on the situation (thanks
Eurogamer) that attempts to separate the issues for clarity. One concern is
elements that reference a transgender character and a separate wisecrack saying
"Really, it's about ethics in heroic adventuring" which seem like an indirect jab at
#gamergate. Elements like these are being connected back to comments in an
interview on Kotaku where writer Amber Scott admitted to addressing some of
the sexism from the original Baldur's Gate. This led to
a post by Trent Oster asking that people post their positive impressions to
counteract the negative reviews based on these social issues. Going back to the
beginning, the complication there is that many reviews express legitimate
concerns about bugs and technical issues with the expansion, which are going to
remain negatives for many regardless of their views on the societal issues
involved.
A new trailer from
Total War: WARHAMMER is online, introducing the Vargheists and there's
another trailer with a
first look at the Terrorghiest, two parts of the zeitgeist in the upcoming
fantasy strategy game. Here's word on what we're seeing here: Arguably
more so than other races, the Vampire Counts rely on death from above to close
with and shock the enemy. Fortunately, winged nightmares of various shapes,
sizes and abilities are in good supply for the Vampire Counts player. Two new
Total War: WARHAMMER ‘Introducing…’ videos shine a cold and eerie light upon the
ravenous Vargheists and the blood-curdling Terrorghiest.
As the purest darkness of a Vampire's soul made manifest, Varghiests are truly
the stuff of nightmares. Towering winged beasts, each several times the size of
a man, they can be deployed with devastating effect from above to rip battle
lines to pieces. Learn more about these monstrous predators
here.
Though Vampire Counts have several flying units, it is the Terrorgheist that is
the most lethal. This enormous bat-like monster of fang and talon, induces
abject terror in all but the most steadfast. It has poisonous attacks that
weakens its prey, readying them for slaughter and can even regenerate when
wounded. See it in its full horror
right here.
