Archived News:
PC support for Everybody's Gone to the Rapture was mentioned in
a
recent AMD driver release, so the confirmation on
PC Gamer that the game is coming to Windows is not a shock. They spoke with
Dan Pinchbeck of The Chinese Room about the plans, and learned about what this
version will support: It's mainly performance—there's a framerate cap you
can turn off, and with a good rig you can push up to 60fps, and obviously you've
got scope for much higher resolutions. To be honest with you, we were pushing
the PS4 about as far as it will go graphically, so it's not like there's massive
space for improvement anyway.
What we're really excited by is the addition of some accessibility features,
like a crosshair option for people susceptible to motion sickness; visual assist
for hearing-impaired players; and a 'one button tilt'/simplified
event-triggering feature for users with mobility issues. It's also fully
compatible with most controllers and keyboard/mouse, so the core thing for us is
that it's as accessible to as many players as possible.
Stikbold! A Dodgeball Adventure is now available for Windows
on Steam, with the Xbox
One and PlayStation 4 editions of this dodgeball game to follow next week. This
has multiple throwback elements, including a 70s aesthetic, low-poly graphics,
and local multiplayer.
This trailer offers a look, and here's word on the game: Indie
publisher Curve Digital and developer Game Swing today proudly announced the PC
launch of Stikbold! A Dodgeball Adventure, a quirky and perilous reimagining of
the classic ball game and local multiplayer darling. To celebrate the game’s
launch today on PC and next week’s April 5 and April 8 launches on PlayStation®4
and Xbox One respectively, Stikbold! A Dodgeball Adventure will be going where
no indie game has gone before: to the World Cup.
Using simple twin-stick controls and featuring a vibrant, ’70s-inspired art
style, Stikbold! is a fast-paced approximation of the game of dodgeball,
complete with off-court hazards, random events and boss battles. Players will
embark on an epic single or multiplayer journey across a host of wild and wacky
dodgeball arenas, using their dodgeball skills to defeat opponents, teams and
bosses. Up to four players can partake in brutal yet outlandish rounds of
dodgeball, where fast reactions, tactics and teamwork combine to create a sports
game unlike any other. Always enjoyable but truly shining as a local multiplayer
game, Stikbold! is slated to become the next couch multiplayer game of choice. Continue here to read the full story.

Steam News announces the
release of Hyper Light
Drifter for Windows, OS X, and Linux, which carries a 10% launch
discount. This is an action/adventure/RPG which contains no hyperspace or
drifting, but what's in a name? Here's the pitch for this one: Echoes of
a dark and violent past resonate throughout a savage land, steeped in treasure
and blood. Hyper Light Drifter is an action adventure RPG in the vein of the
best 16bit classics, with modernized mechanics and designs on a much grander
scale.
Drifters of this world are the collectors of forgotten knowledge, lost
technologies and broken histories. Our Drifter is haunted by an insatiable
illness, traveling further into the lands of Buried Time, hoping to discover a
way to quiet the vicious disease.
- From each character to subtle background elements,
everything is lovingly hand-animated.
- Easy to pick up, difficult to master; enemies are
vicious and numerous, hazards will easily crush your frail body, and
friendly faces remain rare.
- Upgrade weapons, learn new skills, discover
equipment and traverse a dark, detailed world with branching paths and
secrets abound.
Lo-Fi Games announces that Kenshi is now in the beta phase
on Steam, and various
updates mark this new phase in the early access squad-based RPG.
This post has details on what's been added to the game, and outlines plans
to gradually open up new areas of the expanded game map, and
this
trailer shows off the new version 0.90 beta. Word is: "Kenshi is a
free-roaming squad based RPG with emphasis on open-ended sandbox gameplay
features rather than a linear story. You can be a trader, a thief, a rebel, a
warlord, an adventurer, a farmer, a slave, or just food for the cannibals! Build
a safe house, research new equipment, craft new gear and train your men from
puny victims to fearless warriors - with skill, luck and talent, you might even
bring them home alive! The updated BETA introduces one of the largest
single-player world maps ever to be offered in an RPG. Initially, only
restricted areas will be accessible, and other areas of the map become available
in future updates to the game."
So I'm here to announce I am closing this site to take on my new post as
ambassador to the moon, but that's okay, there's a joint deal for Microsoft,
Google, and Apple to buy the site, and use it to report on news on Half-Life 3,
4, and 5, which have also been officially confirmed. Ha ha, April Fools! I
totally had you going there, but I was kidding. Google isn't actually part of
the consortium buying the site. I'll start my job on the moon tomorrow, so I
guess I'll stick around and try to help sort through the inevitably
imaginative pranks that roll out today. Apologies in advance for any jokes that
are tagged as real or vice versa.
