A new animated short
from Overwatch called "Recall" offers the back story on the Winston
character from Blizzard's upcoming multiplayer shooter. There are some details
on what we see in an
update on the Overwatch website: A super-intelligent, genetically
engineered gorilla, Winston is a brilliant scientist and champion for humanity's
potential. After spending several years working as a scientist for Overwatch,
Winston has gone into seclusion since its fall, cut off from the world he
believes in, longing for the days of heroism to return. He wields impressive
inventions on the battlefield—including a short-ranged Tesla Cannon, Jump Pack,
and Portable Shield Projector. But his most powerful weapon can only be
unleashed by embracing his animal nature.
Weapons & Abilities:
- Tesla Cannon: Winston’s weapon fires a short-range
electric barrage for as long as he holds down the trigger.
- Jump Pack: Assisted by his energy pack, Winston
lunges through the air, dealing significant damage and staggering nearby
enemies when he lands.
- Barrier Projector: Winston’s barrier projector
extends a bubble-shaped field that absorbs damage until it's destroyed.
Allies protected by the barrier can return fire from within it.
- Primal Rage: Winston embraces his animal nature,
significantly boosting his health and making him very difficult to kill,
strengthening his melee attack, and allowing him to use his Jump Pack
ability more frequently. While raging, Winston can only make melee and Jump
Pack attacks.

UbiBlog has details on a new patch coming tomorrow to Tom Clancy's The
Division that will update the multiplayer action/RPG to version 1.0.2 with
better loot drops, exploit fixes, and more. Here's the plan: Some changes
are coming to The Division tomorrow thanks to patch 1.0.2, which addresses a
number of issues across all platforms. For starters, named enemies will now drop
better loot in Challenge mode than they will in the game’s hard mode.
Additionally, named NPCs will no longer respawn in the open world, preventing
players from farming that particular NPC for loot. Meanwhile, in the Dark Zone,
players can fast travel to checkpoints, but only from outside the Dark Zone and
players killed in the Dark Zone will now drop ammo, medkits, and grenades (which
will not be taken from the killed player’s inventory). Some of the other Dark
Zone changes include:
- Players killed in the Dark Zone will lose less
Dark Zone Funds and Experience (Rogue and non-Rogue)
- Dark Zone Funds and Experience rewards for
surviving Rogue status have been improved
- Dark Zone Funds and Experience rewards for killing
Rogue agents have been improved
Be sure to visit The Division forums for a full rundown of what’s included
in patch 1.0.2.

A tweet
from BioWare's Alistair McNally teases that he walked around GDC with a
shirt teasing BioWare's new IP and no one noticed. This seems to be a theme,
since he posted this tweet three days ago and it was just noted
just noted yesterday. This presumably relates to the new IP first mentioned
at E3 2014, but now we
are left wondering how someone could possibly go a whole day without being beset
with questions about their clothing.
The BioWare Forum have the posts from fans scrambling to find a photo of
said shirt, but it seems like nothing is turning up.
How much is your pre-order worth? For Far Cry Primal the answer is
apparently $6.99, because that's how much they will charge for the Wenja Pack
when they release it tomorrow, offering the chance to purchase the content that
was the preorder bonus for the prehistoric shooter. Here's the plan: Did
you miss the window for getting your hands on the preorder bonuses for Far Cry
Primal? If you’d still like to stomp around as a mammoth in three new missions
and get a running start with extra items, you can grab it all starting on March
22 with the Wenja Pack. Available for $6.99, the Wenja Pack includes the three
add-on Legend of the Mammoth missions – which put you in control of a mammoth
out to defend its herd – as well as Ull’s powerful Bone Shasti Club and four
enhancement packs filled with perks and new skins for the wild animals of Oros.
The add-on packs include the Sabretooth Pack, which gives players early access
to animal hides for crafting while also changing some of the sabretooth tiger
population into Flame Fang sabretooths; the Owl Pack, which gives your owl
friend dark and stormy feathers, while also including Wenja tribal paint to give
Takkar’s arms a new look and early access to crafting resources; The Mammoth
Pack, which changes some of the game’s mammoths into Ash Back mammoths, while
also granting an endurance-boosting recipe; and the Bomb Pack, which offers two
extra sting bombs to give you an edge early in the game.
Football Manager 2016 returns to the number one spot on the
GfK Chart-Track chart of the bestselling PC games in the U.K. for the week
ending March 19th. Mortal Kombat X enters the chart at number V, and
Revolution: the 25th Anniversary Collection Box Set checks in at lucky
number seven. As for the
all platforms chart, Tom Clancy's The Division holds on to the top
position, UFC 2 debuts at number two, and Pokkén Tournament enters
the chart at number three. Here's the
big picture:
Ubisoft take a second week at No1 with ‘Tom Clancy’s The Division’
(-73%).
Right behind Ubisoft there are 2 very different kinds of fighting games debuting
strongly this week. Entering the ring and debuting at No2 is ‘EA Sports UFC 2’
for PS4/Xbox One. This is the second in the series since acquisition from THQ
and this version outsells EA’s first by +53% when comparing launch week sales
units (‘EA Sports UFC’ debuted in week 25, 2014 for the same 2 formats). Also
new and debuting at No3 is another fight title, Nintendo and Bandai Namco’s
‘Pokken Tournament’ for WiiU - the first Pokemon spin-off title to launch for
WiiU.
Activision’s ‘Black Ops III’ drops 1 place to No4 (-8%) and Ubisoft’s ‘Far Cry
Primal’ slips from No2 to No5 (-37%). There are pre-Easter sales occurring right
now which explains the movement of various titles, such as Bethesda’s ‘Fallout
4’, up 14 places to No13 (+69%) and various re-entries, such as Little Orbit’s
‘Kung Fu Panda: Legendary Legends’ at No33 (+91%) and Konami’s ‘Pro Evolution
Soccer 2016’ at No34 (+58%).
Ars Technica - How the demonization of emulation devalues gaming’s heritage.
"To highlight the extent of the problem, Cifaldi contrasted Duck Tales—a
1989 NES games that still attracts considerable attention on YouTube and
Twitch—with Uncle Buck—a mid-level cinematic John Candy vehicle from the
same year. Duck Tales can only currently be purchased as an original NES
cartridge or in a heavily altered "Remastered" edition for modern consoles.
Uncle Buck, on the other hand, is available in multiple DVD and Blu-Ray
packages, and on hosts of digital download services for rental or purchase.
In fact, all of the top-grossing films of 1989 are available in modern
formats, but the same can't be said for any of Wikipedia's most notable
games from the same year (save for Mega Man 2, thanks in part to Cifaldi's
efforts).
'These movies have always been in print,' Cifaldi said. 'Games could have
been the same way, except we demonized emulation, and devalued our heritage.
We've relegated a majority of our past to piracy.'"
Well, to celebrate the first day of spring, we got a legitimate snowfall
yesterday. I don't mean it was legit enough to require the use of a shovel, but
it covered everything, and there's still some out there to be seen. It's still
pretty cold too, but I'm not worried, the forecast calls for it to be warmer
later today and the rest of the week, so it seems like an amusing footnote to
the winter more than anything.
