Torn Banner Studios unveils Mirage: Arcane Warfare, a new multiplayer
first-person shooter from the developer of Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, saying
this will make a fuller debut next week at the Game Developer's Conference and
will be released through Steam this year. In the meantime they offer
this trailer with a
look at gameplay from what they call a "magic and blood-soaked title." Here's
the announcement: In Mirage: Arcane Warfare, the calm of a strange
fantasy world is shattered by ruthless civil war. Warriors armed with steel and
magic bring violence and death as they do battle across a fantastical Arabian
and Persian-inspired setting of desert sands, market bazaars and grand palaces.
Built using the powerful new capabilities of Unreal Engine 4, Mirage: Arcane
Warfare presents visually stunning backdrops to some viscerally brutal
multiplayer combat.
"Our last game Chivalry was about chopping off people’s heads with a sword.
Mirage takes that core gameplay DNA and explodes with a range of new bloody,
brutal combat possibilities thanks to the addition of powerful magic” said Steve
Piggott, Torn Banner CEO and game designer on Mirage: Arcane Warfare. “Mixing in
the elements of fantasy and magic allow us to add entirely new components and
levels of complexity to that core team-based combat concept that we find so much
fun to play.”
“Our artists have created a rich and unusual world in Mirage, full of colour,
character and a unique setting that is so rarely explored in video games,”
according to Torn Banner environment artist Lucas Annunziata. “Working with
Unreal Engine 4 has not only helped us bring to life the exotic locales of
Mirage, it also gives us the tools to make magic effects that dazzle and bloody
gore that make us cringe.”
Slated for release on PC through Steam later this year, Mirage: Arcane Warfare
will feature a range of diverse player classes each with their own unique weapon
and skill sets, exotic fantasy locales, multiple multiplayer game modes
including objective-based challenges, brutal gore and a host of other innovative
new features. Currently in development, Torn Banner will roll out more
information and progress about Mirage: Arcane Warfare in the coming months.

Ubisoft claims a couple of one-day company sales records were set by Tom
Clancy's The Division, saying no previous release has sold through more
units in its first 24 hours, nor have they ever sold more digital copies of a
game across all platforms in a single day. Here's part of
their announcement, which does
not specify how many copies were sold:
Today, Ubisoft announced that Tom Clancy’s The Division has sold through
more copies in its first 24 hours of availability than any previous title in the
company’s history*.
“We’re extremely happy with The Division’s record-breaking launch,” said David
Polfeldt, Managing Director, Ubisoft’s Massive studio. “The Division really
represents Ubisoft at its best, with the Massive team and all the teams at our
associate studios working at maximum capacity in highly-productive collaboration
to deliver an incredibly innovative and entertaining new game.”
The Division also set Ubisoft records for total digital full game sales in a
single day across all platforms, including Windows PC, Xbox One and PlayStation
4. And with the addition of The Division, Ubisoft now has three of the top
four** most successful new game brand launches in the history of the industry.
“The launch of The Division is a tremendous achievement for Ubisoft, and
demonstrates our unrivalled capacity to create fantastic new game brands and
transform them into entertainment blockbusters,” said Yves Guillemot, Co-Founder
and CEO, Ubisoft. “This is a momentous day for Ubisoft, but more importantly it
marks the start of millions of players’ enduring engagement in The Division’s
game world, which we are confident they will love.”
Publisher Iceberg Interactive announces they will publish Lord of Rigel
in Q4 of this year, offering a 4X space strategy game with real-time combat that
developer Rhombus Studios crowdfunded last
year, saying they drew some inspiration from Master of Orion. The
Lord of Rigel website is live, and
offers this trailer
introducing the story. Here's word: Lord of Rigel is set in a galaxy
locked in a pan-galactic cold war. Choose between warring elder races, forge
your own coalition, or go it alone. Navigate galactic council politics and
defeat gigantic menaces, while utilizing espionage, research, and military might
to shape the galaxy your way.
James and Adam Rorabaugh Co-Founders of Rhombus Studios say: “Rhombus Studios is
excited to have secured a future for Lord of Rigel by partnering with Iceberg
Interactive. They are the ideal publisher for Lord of Rigel, because they
understand how small studios work and have a deep understanding and love of
strategy games. Our core gameplay and immersive universe combined with Iceberg's
industry experience and keen eye for detail will take Lord of Rigel to the next
level and create a franchise that players can enjoy for many years to
come.” Continue here to read the full story.

International indie developer Monothetic announces Beacon, a science
fiction-themed action/Roguelike coming to Windows, OS X, and Xbox One, good
news, since everybody likes beacon (no wait, that's bacon). A look at
what this will involve can be found in
this reveal trailer,
and here's a rundown on the plan: Beacon is an Sci-Fi Action Roguelike
that asks you to fight, die and mutate yourself to escape a deadly hostile
planet. Played as a top-down shooter, you must fight your way through a randomly
generated hostile world, all the while trying to locate your emergency distress
beacon and escape the planet into which your ship has crashed.
While you’re making your way through these areas, you’ll not only find weapons
and items to help you; You’ll also be collecting DNA from the enemies you
defeat. Then, when you inevitably die, you’re given the opportunity to combine
the DNA you’ve collected to your own, granting you different stats and
potentially gameplay-altering physical mutations for your next run.
Beacon aims to create a bridge between fast, frenetic action and long-term
strategy, where your actions can be felt and built upon hours down the
line. Continue here to read the full story.
These
Overwatch Beta Patch Notes offer details on the latest update to
Overwatch as Blizzard works on the upcoming launch of this multiplayer
shooter (thanks
Ten Ton Hammer). The update adds a new map, resets player's career profile
stats (but not matchmaking), and a number of changes and tweaks, as well as some
secret stuff, as they admit "some changes may not be documented or described in
full detail." Here's word on the new map and the stat reset: New
Control Map: Ilios
Situated atop a small island rising from the Aegean Sea, Ilios is a
postcard-perfect Mediterranean town, with a bustling harborside, winding paths
for rambling hillside strolls, and gorgeous vistas. It is the ideal vacation
stop for people looking for a place to relax, or for those interested in
exploring the ruins scattered at the top of the island, where many artifacts and
relics of the ancient world have been recently unearthed.
Career Profile Reset
This patch includes a full wipe of players’ Career Profiles. As a result, the
Career Profile page will appear empty when you first log in after patching, and
your previous "Personal Best" records will be reset. (Note: This wipe will not
affect matchmaking, player levels, progression, or rewards.)
SOEDESCO and Vertigo Games announce April 1st is the release date for Adam's
Venture: Origins, the Windows, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 adventure game
remake. This trailer
offers the most recent look at the game, and here's an outline: The
adventure begins in 1928, when a routine excavation of a French church leads to
the discovery of a strange scroll bearing Templar symbols. What follows is a
race to uncover the location of the four rivers mentioned in the Book of Genesis
– and unpick what this could mean.
Adam’s Venture: Origins was first announced last year and is a remake of the
original Adam’s Venture Chronicles – The Search for the Lost Garden, Soloman’s
Secret and Revelations. Set in the 1920’s, Adam’s Venture Origins is an
extensive remake of the originally announced game, reimagining the franchise as
a fully formed non-violent, next-generation adventure game. Continue here to read the full story.
A
Steam Community Group Announcement has details on the release of a new free
Dark Fist expansion for Punch Club. The additional content will require you to
start a new game. The first rule of punch club is to talk about the expansion,
so here's word: "Yes, you will get to figure out what happens to Fluffy the cat.
And yes there is a whole side-story to this. We definitely didn't just forget to
put the sprite into the new house and made this all up. Search for a briefcase
in your house on around day 6." Here's
a teaser trailer. Continue here to read the full story.
A post on UbiBlog
outlines a series of dos and don'ts for Tom Clancy's The Division in an effort
to help you survive the mean streets of the game's post-apocalyptic version of
New York City. Here are a couple of don'ts as an example: DON'T...
Be afraid to go solo early on. The Division is an online game with
cooperative play. That’s not to say you’ll be crushed if you go it alone,
though. In fact, playing solo is a great way to feel out the game on your own
time, coming to grips with its rhythms without any worry of looking like a
doofus when you inevitably blunder into a trap or underestimate a powerful
enemy. Just be aware that you’ll have an easier time playing with others,
especially if you don’t…
Forget your emotes. Players who actually mic up and communicate
verbally are becoming rarer in general these days. If you’re a silent type, but
still want to show your appreciation or get other players’ attention, your
emotes can speak for you. On consoles, holding down on the d-pad will bring up a
selection wheel that lets you applaud, do jumping jacks, and more, while emotes
are bound to different keys on the PC version.

I had a weird problem with my headset that I almost posed to all of you for
assistance, but I managed to work it out. I have a Razer Kraken dealie that
started intermittently not carrying Skype audio, one of those weird moments when
something that was working fine decides to stop. Sound still worked with other sources,
and the mic still worked with Skype, but sometimes I'd get no sound. After Googling
around I found the suggestion to uninstall the Razer Synapse software, and
haven't had a problem since. I'm probably missing out on the "benefits"
of virtual 7.1 support, but I can't really tell the difference. I guess it's an
endorsement of the actual universal behavior of USB that this works without
drivers, and an indictment of modern software development that a bloated
companion app like this actually impedes proper operation.
