Torn Banner Studios unveils plans for Mirage: Arcane Warfare, a
multiplayer combat game coming to PC later this year from the Toronto-based
developer of Chivalry: Medieval Warfare. You can get a first look at this
in a short teaser trailer,
while there's a countdown running on
the game's website ticking off
the seconds until a full trailer reveal in a week. For now, here's what they say
about the teaser: "This short teaser video introduces us to the fast-paced

GameWatcher has a statement from Paradox Interactive where the publisher
explains that they have "amicably terminated" their agreement with Ruffian Games
to develop Hollowpoint, a "co-op action-packed tactical RPG set in the
22nd century" they announced in summer
2014. They say they are currently reevaluating the creative direction of the
game: "Today we would like to announce that the working relationship
between Paradox Interactive and Ruffian Games on ‘Hollowpoint’ has been amicably
terminated." said a spokesperson for Paradox Interactive. "After recent ongoing
discussions between the two companies, it became apparent to both parties that
the creative vision for the project was diverging and so the decision was
ultimately taken to cease our co-operation in order to serve the long-term
interests of the game."
"We would like to thank Ruffian Games for all their hard work and wish them the
best of luck in their future endeavours. Paradox will be re-evaluating the
creative direction of ‘Hollowpoint’ internally before making any final
decisions."
There is
a statement on the Oovee Game Studios website addressing conjecture
on reddit and
their
forums that rashes of game crashes in Spintires are the result of "time
bombs" deliberately inserted into the code of the off-road racing game by
developer Pavel Zagrebelnyy. The speculation was that the programmer was
disgruntled, as he
recently told Eurogamer that the publisher owes him "a s***load of money
according to our contract," and that he hadn't "had a meaningful communication
with Oovee for many months (maybe a year)." Oovee discredits these theories and
takes offense at the speculation, and say that the problems have been
identified, and fixes are in the works. That all makes this seem like a normal
bug, but it does seem odd that the game is
no longer for sale on Steam
for the moment (thanks
PC Invasion), which is not addressed by the publisher in their update.
Gamasutra has a statement from Zagrebelnyy, who also says this was not
deliberate sabotage, but rather a bug related to a date-related piracy check,
and he says a patch should come through on Steam "soon," and in regards to Oovee, he "will try to pick better partners next time."
UbiBlog has an outline from Ubisoft on what to expect from The Division
on launch day for the new Tom Clancy-inspired shooter. They explain when servers
will go online, and when to expect reviews to pop up, since reviewers can't
really get a proper headstart on such an online game: Since it’s
impossible for us to populate the servers in a way that would adequately
replicate playing The Division on launch day, reviewers will start playing the
game along with everyone else when it’s released on March 8 – after the servers
go live officially and globally at 00:01AM Australian Eastern Daylight Time (AEDT).
We anticipate there may be some impressions posted online within the first few
days of launch that were based on experiences with The Division Beta, and we
look forward to seeing streams, videos, and opinions that provide accounts of
final, in-game conditions.
Players who have purchased digital copies can begin preloading today for Xbox
One; Thursday, March 3 at 6PM CET / 9AM PT for PC (Steam/Uplay); and March 6 at
00:01AM local time on PlayStation 4 – except Japan where it will be available on
March 8 at 00:01AM. In the US, digital copies of The Division for Xbox One, PS4,
and PC will be active at 12:01AM EST on March 8.
We can’t wait for you to share these and other Division moments as you explore
the streets and begin your journey to save New York City. Thank you for your
continued support.

Speaking at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media, and Telecom Conference, EA CFO
Blake Jorgensen revealed a delay to Mass Effect Andromeda, saying the
next installment in the sci-fi action series is now due in their fiscal fourth
quarter, which is the first quarter of 2017 according to the regular old
calendar. The game was announced
for release before the end of this year, but there is no explanation for the
setback.
VG247 has the relevant quote, courtesy of
NeoGAF, which
also says to expect new Battlefield and Titanfall games this year. Here's word:
“We’ve got a great year ahead,” the executive told attendees at the
Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecom Conference.
“We’ve got our Battlefield first-person shooter game coming in the third
quarter, and our third-party title that Respawn, our partner, built, it’s called
TItanfall, it’s the second title that they brought into that brand.
“Both of those are first-person shooters and will be targeted around the fast,
action-driven shooter market, as well as the strategy-driven market in that
quarter.
“We have our Mirror’s Edge runner game this first quarter, and then we have Mass
Effect, which is a sci-fi action game, in our fourth quarter. So big year ahead
and we’re pretty excited.”

Somebody must have lit a simulated cigarette, because Bus Simulator 16 has
arrived (talk about pulling out an obsolete joke!). The
Bus Simulator 16 website
has details on where to pick this up, including
Steam, and
this
recent release trailer shows off what to expect. Here's word:
Publisher astragon and developer stillalive studios are happy to
announce, that the long-awaited Bus Simulator 16 has officially left the depot
today and is now available in retail and as digital download. Players will not
only be able to drive busses themselves but will also get the chance to start
and manage their very own bus company in cooperation with their friends.
In Bus Simulator 16 the player slips into the shoes of a budding bus operator in
the lively city of Sunny Springs. In this role he will be able to steer busses
which have been especially created for the game as well as originally licensed
vehicles by the famous German bus and truck maker MAN. Among those are the MAN
Lion's City A37 citybus as well as the MAN Lion's City A 23 articulated bus –
two busses that will make every bus fan’s heart beat faster.
The brand new bus driver starts in the fringe parts of the city with learning
how to drive the busses and work with their faithfully reproduced, fully
operational cockpits. He will also need to prove his skills at the friendly and
professional transportation of passengers and create his first bus lines and
timetables. The better the player manages all these tasks, the better the image
of his company will become. This of course will not only reflect upon the
popularity - and with that the finances - of the bus operator, but will also
unlock other city districts and new busses bit by bit. With the so earned money
he can not only buy new busses, but also hire additional drivers, who can in
turn be assigned to the player’s bus lines. The AI drivers possess individual
skills and will be able to improve so that they will become steadily better at
driving their lines. This will in turn improve the image of the company and
result in the rise of its revenue.
The built-in route editor will enable the player to easily create completely new
bus lines as well as amend already existing ones. This guarantees lots of
long-term variety within the open, freely drivable game world.

Weird, I quoted Ghostbusters yesterday, and then saw a coincidental funny
reference to the movie in the comments on the release of
the new patch for Heroes
of the Storm that warmed my pun-loving heart: "There is no Jaina, only Xul."
Bravo FlashGordan. Bravo.
