An
update on Battle.net outlines how Blizzard feels about the current state of
matchmaking in Heroes of the Storm. They describe the positive impact of
some of their recent changes as steps in the right direction, and emphasize
their commitment to make further strides going forward. One future plan is to
restrict the number of specialty heroes that can randomly be placed on the same
team. Here's word: Our rules for Supports and Warriors in Quick Match
have helped level the playing field in terms of team composition, but we’ve also
seen feedback from the community indicating that receiving several heroes who
have limited lane presence, or fill unique roles, on one Quick Match team can
make for a challenging experience.
We’d like to limit cases like these, and we’re currently planning to implement a
new rule for Quick Match that will prevent more than one of the heroes listed
below from being placed on the same team:
- Abathur
- Cho’gall
- Lt. Morales
- Murky
- Nova
- The Lost Vikings
As with all of the team composition restrictions we’ve implemented so far,
parties can still bend this rule. This means that you may still see heroes like
Abathur and Cho’gall on the same team if those players entered the queue as a
party.

Otherside Entertainment announces that famed designer Warren Spector will soon
be joining their company, saying that: "Efforts on System Shock 3 will
accelerate this year under Warren’s direction, while OtherSide continues working
on Underworld Ascendant, the successor to the Ultima Underworld
series." This reunites Warren with Paul Neurath, as both were part of the glory
days of Looking Glass Studios. "I’m delighted to have Warren stepping up into a
director role at OtherSide and helping lead the charge with our innovative
approach to gaming," says Paul. "I can think of no one better suited to take on
this creative challenge. Warren has changed the industry before and will do so
again." Word is he will break on through to the other side following the
conclusion of his current teaching duties: OtherSide Entertainment is
thrilled to announce that Warren Spector, one of the leading creative minds in
the game industry, will soon be joining the company.
Warren has been a producer, designer, and director behind some of the industry’s
most beloved games, including System Shock, Deus Ex, and the Ultima series. He
led Junction Point Studios in creating the best-selling Disney Epic Mickey and
recently oversaw the Denuis-Sam Gaming Academy post-baccalaureate program at UT
Austin.
Warren has acted as a Creative Advisor to OtherSide since the studio’s
inception. Following the end of this semester’s classes at UT Austin, he will
transition into a full-time position as one of OtherSide’s Studio Directors.
Warren will continue to help in a creative capacity on Underworld Ascendant and,
later this year, ramp up and lead the team developing System Shock 3.
Warren has a long history working with members of the OtherSide team, having
collaborated with founder Paul Neurath on the original Ultima Underworld games,
Thief: The Dark Project, and System Shock.
Ubisoft offers a new
trailer from Tom Clancy's The Division highlighting the upcoming open
beta testing of the third-person shooter. You can sign up for the beta on the
Ubisoft website and those accepted can begin preloading now. Windows testing
will run from February 19-21, and they take the occasion to discuss changes from
the closed beta: If this isn’t your first time playing The Division,
you’ll be able to discover a new story mission that wasn’t in the closed beta.
Also, everyone who participates in the open beta gets access to a special
in-game reward that can be unlocked in Uplay when the full game is released for
Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on March 8.
Tom Clancy’s The Division takes place weeks after a devastating pandemic sweeps
through New York City on Black Friday. One by one, basic services fail and in
only days, without food or water, society collapses into chaos. The Division, an
autonomous unit of tactical agents leading seemingly ordinary lives among us, is
activated to save society. Team up with other players to investigate the source
of the virus, protect civilians from dangerous factions, and reclaim the city
from the overwhelming turmoil. Continue here to read the full story.
Capcom Unity has an update for owners of Street Fighter V, their
just-released fighting game sequel. They address issues with the game players
are encountering, discussing plans to address connectivity and matchmaking
problems, data corruption experienced by a "small number of PC users," and game
crashes. They also outline some feature requests they plan on fulfilling as part
of their commitment to this game they describe as a "living and breathing
platform that will continue to improve and evolve over time with more features
and content." Here's word on new features:
- Native DirectInput support - this was one
of the more consistent requests we’ve received from the PC community. We
realize many fans prefer to use their existing PS3/PS4 compatible Arcade
Sticks on PC which are DirectInput-based, so we are actively looking into
adding this feature in an upcoming patch. In the meantime, players can use
popular XInput remapping tools such as the X360CE[www.x360ce.com].
- Expanded key re-binding functionality - we
are also looking into expanding key binding option to allow customers to
freely map keys beyond the default B/N/M/,/H/J/K/L keys.
- In-game language options - the currently
set language is based on the Operating System’s UI language. We are looking
into adding language options via the Steam client launcher in an upcoming
patch.
- Resolution Switching – current design
requires users to cycle through each in-between resolution setting in order
to arrive at a resolution of their choice. We’ll look into making this
process much simpler and less time consuming in the future.
- Lastly, we’ll provide another round of updates
shortly, as soon as we have a solid timeline for when these feature
additions will be ready. Please stay tuned!

word: Tom Clancy's The Division is looking to be a big hit come March,
promising to satiate gamers' desire for shooting, looting, and levelling. The

I received a hand-me-down from a loot crate that's made me extremely happy in
spite of its simplicity. I'm now the proud owner of my own Leeloo Dallas multi
pass. As I say, just owning this makes me smile, but I actually laugh out loud
every time I imagine finding some opportunity to present this as an actual ID.
Mul-ti-pass! I probably won't try this at the airport, however, as the TSA seems
a little short of the sense of humor this would require.
