Sniper Elite 4 Spotted?

Rebellion has plans to reveal a new project soon, confirms Videogamer, who contacted the developer to follow-up on indications this will be Sniper Elite 4. They did not get that confirmation, but have an image of a LinkedIn profile that mentions the sharpshooting sequel by name. Here's the statement from Rebellion's Jason Kingsley, which deflects, but does not actually deny the discovery:

"To be honest we're flattered that people are actively searching out for a new Sniper Elite title, and we certainly don't mind being mentioned next to projects like Black Ops 3 and Unreal! However the person in question doesn't work for Rebellion and we haven't announced a new entry in the Sniper Elite series.

"Last year we celebrated the Sniper Elite series' 10th birthday and 10 millionth sale, so our IP is still hugely important to both Rebellion and independent UK games development. We're actually gearing up to announce a new Rebellion game soon, so expect to hear more from us before GDC!"

American Truck Simulator Free DLC

SCS Software now offers the Kenworth W900 as free DLC for American Truck Simulator, saying Steam will automatically add the truck to the game, and offering this trailer showing it in action. The DLC also includes updates to the game, in particular reducing the severity of fines for newer players, and also allowing drivers to make "right on red" turns, which are indeed legal in much of the U.S., though usually against company policy for commercial vehicles. Layers of Fear Released

Layers of Fear is now available on Steam, offering a "first-person psychedelic horror game with a heavy focus on story and exploration," where you play a painter struggling to complete is masterpiece. This is available for Windows, Linux, and OS X, and here is an description that paints a picture of how this works:

You take another drink as the canvas looms in front of you. A light flickers dimly in the corner. You’ve created countless pieces of art, but never anything like…this. Why haven’t you done this before? It seems so obvious in retrospect. Your friends, critics, business partners—soon, they’ll all see. But something’s still missing…

You look up, startled. That melody… Was that a piano? It sounded just like her… But, no—that would be impossible. She’s gone. They’re all gone.
Have to focus. How long has it taken to get to this point? Too long, but it doesn’t matter. There will be no more distractions. It’s almost finished. You can feel it. Your creation. Your Magnum Opus.

Dare you help paint a true Masterpiece of Fear? Layers of Fear is a first-person psychedelic horror game with a heavy focus on story and exploration. Delve deep into the mind of an insane painter and discover the secret of his madness, as you walk through a vast and constantly changing Victorian-era mansion. Uncover the visions, fears and horrors that entwine the painter and finish the masterpiece he has strived so long to create.

Street Fighter V Eve Address

A Special Message from Yoshinori Ono is a video from the executive producer of Street Fighter V on the eve of the release of the next installment in the fighting series. This is in Japanese, but offers English subtitles revealing Capcom says this is a new beginning for a new "fighting tool," as he reminds gamers that they will be able to unlock all the game's additional content for free using in-game currency earned in fights, including new characters released over "the next few years." He also discusses plans for tournaments around the world and says they are racing to have the game's cinematic expansion ready for release in June. Continue here to read the full story.

In keeping with a previous announcement about driver distribution, they repeatedly emphasize that these drivers are available through the GeForce Experience, but they also seem to be available for traditional download through their website.

Trendy Entertainment Layoffs

A post to the Dungeon Defenders II website has the news that Trendy Entertainment has suffered some layoffs. Kotaku has a follow-up statement from the developer saying: "We have made the full resources of our organization available for our departing friends and colleagues to help ease them swiftly through this difficult period of transition." Here's the original post:

It’s with great sadness today that we announce some layoffs at our Gainesville studio. These people are not only our co-workers, but our family and our friends. We made the hard decision that a smaller more focused team would be better able to deliver on our overall goals.

This move will reinforce our plans to deliver Dungeon Defenders II out of Early Access as the experience that you deserve. So, stick with us as we update all of our game systems, release new heroes, and continue to defend Etheria.

Hitman GO: Definitive Edition Next Week

Square Enix Montréal announces that Hitman GO: Definitive Edition will be released on Steam next week, along with versions for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita, with a February 23rd release in North America and a February 24th release in European territories. This was originally a mobile game, but now word is the "definitive edition" is landing on other platforms, and will be a cross-buy digital download from the PlayStation Store and the Steam store for $7.99. Here's a bit on what defines this edition as definitive:

The definitive edition has been updated with improved graphics, new control schemes optimized for consoles and PC, integrated achievements including a platinum trophy, and cross-save functionality allowing users to seamlessly transfer save files between PlayStation systems to take Hitman GO: Definitive Edition on the go. The game includes all of its original content as well as all subsequent content updates (Opera, Airport and St. Petersburg boxes), and all in-app purchases have been removed.

“We are very excited to be bringing Hitman GO to even more players with this revisited edition. We hope the challenging turn-based gameplay will please even the most dedicated Hitman fans,” said Patrick Naud, Head of Studio for Square Enix Montreal. “Hitman GO is an innovative iteration of the successful stealth franchise and should see continued success with this release on consoles and PC.”

The Ship: Remasted Delayed One Week

Blazing Griffin announces a slight setback to the release of The Ship: Remasted, saying the reworked version of their first-person mystery game is now expected on February 22nd, rather than today, as was planned. In short, they say: "There were a number of concerns from the community about the impact of a LAN-only launch may have on initial Steam reviews and on balance, we felt that it was appropriate to address those concerns." There are further details in this post, which expands that explanation. Here's more:

Work on dedicated servers is also continuing and as originally planned, we would expect these to become available within a few weeks.

Thanks to everyone for their comments and also for voicing your concerns. Launching a game like this is a delicate process and we were also concerned about the impact of negative reviews will have on the future of the game. We did feel that on balance there were more benefits to launching today than later, but given the feedback from the community, we've moved to a more suitable solution.

U.K. Sales Charts

The Sims 4 return to their home atop the GFK Chart-Track U.K. top 30 PC chart for the week ending February 13th, dropping last week's number one, XCOM 2, into the number four spot. Things are more stable on the all platforms top 40, where Call of Duty: Black Ops III remains number one for the tenth week. Their write-up of all the action celebrates the news:

Activision’s ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops III’ (-17%) celebrates a 10th No1 crown.

Only ‘Lego Marvel Avengers’ (-35%), which remains at No2 has managed to break its run at the top in 2016. The start of the half term break combined with retail promotions sees a resurgence for many of the Top 10 this week with ‘Fifa 16’ (+26%) climbing back up to No3. ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ (+33%) and ‘Stars Wars Battlefront’ (+50%) follow suit moving up to claim No4 and No5. ‘Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege’ (+16%) also sees a strong boost but still slips a spot down to No6. ‘Just Cause 3’ (-5%) climbs a spot and stays ahead of a resurgent ‘Fallout 4’ (+67%), which leaps 7 places to No8. ‘Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate’ (-2%) and ‘Minecraft: Story Mode’ (-19%) are both non–movers at No9 and No10.

Although they’re unable to threaten the Top 10 a few new releases arrive in the Top 40. The first in the form of ‘Assassin’s Creed Chronicles’ at No19. The physical release sees episodic releases covering China, India and Russia united on one disc. The zombies return once more as Warner Bros. Interactive release ‘Dying Light: The Following’ debuting at No28. The release sees the addition of all season pass content combined with the original release from February last year.

Out of the Blue

Happy President's Day to those of you here in the U.S., a celebration of the deep respect each and every citizen has always had for our leaders. Or a few of them at least. Since I'm El Presidente for life here at the BlueTower I think I'll give myself a nice shoulder rub or something to celebrate. Speaking of celebrations (sort of), today would have been my dad's birthday, so he's in my thoughts even more than usual. I'm taking joy in hoping that will inspire someone to call their folks today and tell them they love them. So there, enjoy the occasion, and remember not to eat too much President's Day cake.
