Archived News:
A post on the
DUST 514 Forums has early details on CCP's plans for an Unreal Engine 4
shooter for PC based on DUST 514 (thanks
DSOGaming). This is actually from last week following the
news that the original version of this PS3 shooter spinoff of EVE Online
would soon close down. They say this unannounced project "is in many ways an
evolution of Project Legion," and make it clear that game that was announced
in May 2014 has also bitten the dust. They plan on showing this off in April
at the EVE Fanfest, and though this will be on a different platform than DUST
514, they will have some sort of loyalty program, saying, "Since this new game
will be different from DUST 514 (although keeping many of its great parts), we
will provide tiered recognition rewards to our loyal DUST customers, details to
be announced." Here's the deal: CCP’s development team in Shanghai has
been working on a prototype for a first-person shooter for PC with the goal of
building a great FPS set in our sci-fi universe of New Eden (the universe in
which EVE Online, DUST 514, EVE: Valkyrie, and Gunjack are set). Their
experience is being utilized to build a new game from scratch using Unreal
Engine 4 while harnessing all our learnings from DUST 514. This is in many ways
an evolution of Project Legion, the concept we announced at EVE Fanfest 2014,
but without the limitations of technical debt and development paths we quickly
discovered in that effort that could never serve as a future-proof technology
base for a full production game. This new project is still in an early phase of
production, and we feel like we’re on the right track and plan to give an update
at EVE Fanfest on April 21st as a part of the free livestream of the event.
Since this new game will be different from DUST 514 (although keeping many of
its great parts), we will provide tiered recognition rewards to our loyal DUST
customers, details to be announced.
We are very proud of what we’ve learned and accomplished with DUST 514 on
PlayStation 3 over the past three years and it is an honor to be a part of such
a dedicated community. We consider DUST 514 one of the best free-to-play
offerings on the platform, but the years have caught up with us. It is with a
heavy heart that we inform you that DUST 514 will be shutting down on May 30th,
2016. We therefore will not be releasing the 1.3 update as we had planned.
Players will continue to be able to play for free on our servers until then, but
all further PSN packs and purchases have been removed and disabled from the
in-game marketplace and the PlayStation Store. Players with existing Aurum will
be able to continue to purchase items from the in-game marketplace.
Thank you for being a part of DUST 514 on the PlayStation 3. We look forward to
the next chapter, and hope you’ll be a part of it and continue the journey with
us.

A new update on Steam
for ARK: Survival Evolved updates the early access survival game to build 235,
adding new content, including the Phorusrhacidae Rapidesultor, aka the terror
bird, and the grappling hook, described as a game-changing game mechanic. You
can get a look at the newness in
this trailer, and
here's a bit: The Grappling Hook is a game-changing tool enabling
Survivors the ability to scale cliffs, hitch a ride by attaching to a flying
creature, wrangle other players/prisoners, or even small creatures to drag along
(“Get over here!”). Learning how to regularly use this tool will alter the
nature of your attacks and dramatically expand the range of your travels with
greater ease and fun!
Today’s ARK update also includes:
- Tribe Alliances (PvE and PvP): Yes, finally, small
Tribes can band together against larger ones!
- Fishing Upgrade: Coelacanth Nutritia, common name
Coel, are now different sizes (and give different amount of resources
depending on the fish size...gives the rare chance of a super-large catch!)
- Fully Localizable Game Text: Now you can
crowd-source translation and dynamic fonts for any language without Modding/TC's!
- All Current Items added to the Master Items ID
array

Sand of the Damned, the first DLC for Valhalla Hills, is now available
on Steam as a free
download for owners of this Windows, Linux, and OS X strategy game.
This trailer offers a
look, and
this post has all the details on the new content this adds to the game:
With the desert expansion comes a new flat mountain terrain type (only in
free game mode or if Vikings earned enough honor in classic mode!).
The dry deserts are a place of sand and instead of bushes with juice berries,
there are only cactuses. There's also hardly any water, so fishermen have to
stay at an oasis to do their job. To help the Vikings survive and make the land
arable, there's a new type of building: the 'Irrigator'. It turns sand into
meadows, so you can grow crops.
The desert is the home of various dangerous scorpions. Mummies will attack
players permanently and will start to spread over time. The threats coming out
of the portals are considerably stronger!

Hitman Beta FAQ on
the official Hitman website has details on beta testing of the upcoming
assassination game, which launches this week for PlayStation 4 and next week for
PC. They include a beta
launch trailer to show this off, and they offer the following explanation of
what's included and how to participate: WHAT’S INCLUDED IN THE BETA?
The HITMAN Prologue. That’s the very beginning of the game, set at a top secret
recruitment and training facility. The Prologue revolves around how Agent 47
joined the ICA and shows the first time that 47 meets his long-time handler,
Diana Burnwood.
The Prologue contains an introduction to the gameplay features and mechanics in
HITMAN, and two free-form training hits. You’ll be able to replay each hit as
many times as you wish throughout the beta period to complete the challenges and
the multiple ways to take down your target – as you would expect.
HOW DO I GET ACCESS?
The only way to guarantee your access to the HITMAN Beta is to pre-order the
game digitally on PlayStation 4 via PSN or PC via Steam. Alternatively, you can

A
Kickstarter update for Unsung Story has the news that development is
suspended on this planned spiritual successor to Final Fantasy Tactics
(thanks
Eurogamer). The game was funded about
a year ago, but hit a
delay a few months ago partially attributed
to loss of staff, and just a few weeks
ago a
Kotaku article highlighted problems with the situation. The new update
follows the same theme of the delay news, blaming staff departures for the
game's issues. They still hope to finish this, but say they will need to enlist
outside help to do so, and they will work on other smaller project in the
meantime. Here's a bit: After we posted our latest development progress,
we unfortunately lost a few key staff members that were part of Unsung Story
development, and that has had an impact on any progress since then, as well as
our product focus. We now have one internal team capable of working on a single
project, and for the financial strength of the company we need to focus on a few
products in the near term that have the ability to get to a retail release
before Unsung Story is able to. While this is a difficult choice to make, it is
one we need to do for the ongoing financial health of the company. For Unsung
Story, we will explore options for outside development help, and will look to
see if we are able to bring on an outside team that can assist us in furthering
development. While we aren’t assured this will come to fruition, we do want to
make sure that we are exploring any options at hand that can make progress on
the game.
XCOM 2 invades the
GFK Chart-Track U.K. PC top 30 for the week ending February 6th, knocking
Football Manager 2016 into the second position. Call of Duty: Black Ops
III is now number one on the
all platforms top 40 and the top new entry is NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: ULTIMATE
NINJA STORM 4 at number three. Here's the rundown on all the activity:
Activision re-take No1 with ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops III’ racking up a
ninth No1 spot since launch last year (+11%).
After last week’s big debut week at No1 for Warner’s ‘Lego Marvel Avengers’,
second week sales after launch week drop 41% for this title and it sits at No2.
Brand new at No3 is Bandai Namco’s long-running manga-based ‘Naruto Shippuden:
Ultimate Ninja Storm 4’, which makes the transition to PS4 and Xbox One for the
first time and becomes the second biggest week 1 seller in the series - previous
outing in this series ‘Ninja Storm 3’ also debuted at No3 (week 10, 2013 on
PS3/360) and remains the week 1 best-seller in the series.
Ubisoft’s ‘Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate’ jumps 11 places to No9 (+78%) due to
promotional activity and Bandai Namco also take the second highest new entry
this week at No11 with PS4 ‘Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth’. Next of the new
releases at No20 is 2K/Take2’s PC ‘XCom 2’ which is part of the Take 2 series
revival that began in 2012 with ‘XCom: Enemy Unknown’ (the original concept
dates back to 1994 as ‘UFO: Enemy Unknown’ for Amiga and PC, published by
Microsprose). One more title debuts within the Top 40 at No34 and that's Sony’s
PS4 ‘Gravity Rush Remastered’.

新年好 / 新年好! Happy Chinese New Year! Today begins the Year of the Monkey, which is
cool, because monkeys are cool, and this isn't just a monkey, it's a "fire
monkey!" Culturally, this is not as cool as it sounds, however, as this is
apparently considered to be unlucky, so hopefully that's not the case. Anyway, I bet I am still writing Year of the Goat
on my checks for the next couple of weeks.
