Battle.net announces the
alpha for World of Warcraft Legion is back online. This is invitation
only, but word is that testers will be allowed to blab all they want: Our
gnomish engineers have returned from their adorable little Winter Veil vacation
to bring the Legion alpha test back online—and they’ve made a few updates in the
process!
In addition to all of the content that was previously included in the alpha,
testers can now explore the new Val’Sharah zone and delve into the new Darkheart
Thicket dungeon. The Shaman Order Hall is also now available, and the new Demon
Hunter Vengeance (tank) spec is ready for testing. The raid boss Ursoc has also
made an appearance . . . and he can bearly wait to meet you. Character copy is
currently disabled, but testers can create high-level characters using templates
we’ve provided.
As a reminder, there’s no NDA (non-disclosure agreement) for the Legion alpha
test, so participants are free to stream the game and share screenshots or
movies. Please keep in mind that Legion is still in development—we’ll be making
changes as we continue to prepare for the upcoming beta test, and what you’ll
see during the alpha test is not necessarily representative of the final game.
Players selected to participate in the alpha test will receive an email
invitation directing them to download and install the alpha client directly
through Battle.net desktop app. As always, please be aware of phishing
attempts—if you’re unsure whether your invitation is legitimate, please log in
to Battle.net to verify whether you can install and play the Legion
alpha.

Game Jolt takes further steps towards being an
independent alternative to services like Steam by offering a pre-release version of
their own Game Jolt Client. Here's
word: A Client to install games, keep them updated automatically, and use
the whole Game Jolt platform without opening a browser for Windows, Mac, and
Linux. Oh, yeah, and it's open source.
http://gamejolt.com/client
On our way to building an indie alternative to Steam, Game Jolt Client is not
just a downloader app; it's the whole Game Jolt platform on your desktop.
Browse, search, and find games. Chat with friends and receive notifications.
Even upload files, manage games, and edit pages right in Client.
Highlights
- Install games with a click. Client does the
downloading, extracting, and installing so you don’t have to.
- One-click play. Once you've installed a game, just
click Launch to play. That’s right, no more dealing with zip or rar files.
- Auto updates. Client keeps your installed games up
to date, so you'll always play the latest versions. Your game library syncs
up with your Game Jolt account, so you can access your playlists and receive
notifications, as well.
- Play offline. No longer will road trips or unpaid
internet bills come between you and Game Jolt. Access your entire game
library and play installed games without an internet connection.
- HTML games. Quick play web based HTML/WebGL games
inside Client, no browser needed.
- The entire platform. Browse Game Jolt, find games,
and chat with friends--all in Client. Developers can even upload files and
manage their own games.
- Open source. Wanna know what we’re putting on your
desktop? Client is fully open source! But we didn’t stop there. The main
site--gamejolt.com--is now open source, as well! Any developers who want to
understand how Game Jolt works and contribute to the site (and Client) can
jump on the GitHub repository:
https://github.com/gamejolt/gamejolt
It keeps getting better. We're continually working on improvements based on
community feedback. Automatic integration with our Game API (for achievements)
is coming soon, as well as better tools for managing and sharing games.

The
Ubisoft Forums offer details on a new patch that's now live in Rainbow
Six: Siege, updating the first-person shooter sequel to version 1.3, and
the UbiBlog has further word. The patch notes outline what's changed,
including anti-cheating improvements, an update to their ban policy, and an
exploit fix that's being tested and should go live on all platforms today.
Here's the overview: Today we are sharing our third update. This one is
smaller because we felt we needed to quickly fix some issues. The changes
described below will take effect on January 13th for PC and on January 20th for
consoles, except the server tick rate improvement, the anti-cheating and
banning policy improvements as well as the out-of-zone insta-kill option which
is effective for all immediately (read below for details). This patch will be
released on PC first because of the faster deployment process, in order to test
the impact the fixes have and adjust if needed. Note that tomorrow, January
13th,
Patch 1.2 takes effect on consoles. A much bigger patch, Patch 2.0, will be
released at the same time as Season 1, on February 2nd. This update will be made
available on PC and consoles at the same time.
Please refer to our post about our
top priorities and known issues to see our current plans and steps we are
taking to improve the game as we move forwards. Note that this update, Patch
1.3, will not fix all of our current top issues and that we are actively working
on fixing them as soon as possible.
OVERKILL Software announces
Goat Simulator Heist DLC for PAYDAY 2 is coming tomorrow, offering
a tie-in for the heist game with the surprise hit sim. A
thread on reddit shows this is another disappointment to fans of the game,
who were long ago not to expect such paid offerings (thanks
Eurogamer). Here's a bit: WHEN THE PAYDAY GANG WERE ORDERED BY VLAD TO
INTERCEPT A TRUCK CARRYING COCAINE, THEY EXPECTED TO ACT AS CLEAN-UP AND COLLECT
THE GOODS. EASY PEASY. OR AT LEAST THAT'S WHAT THEY THOUGHT. BUT AS THEY ARRIVE
ON THE SCENE AND SEE THE CRASHED TRUCK, THERE IS NO COCAINE PACKAGES IN SIGHT...
ONLY GOATS... AND CHAOS...
Kalypso Media announces Tropico 5 - Complete Collection, a reworked
bundle of the island dictator sequel along with both its expansions and all 10
previously released DLC packs. This is coming to Steam and retail at the end
of the month, and in the meantime they offer all the details: Have you
been planning a tip-top tropical trip to the island paradise of Tropico? If so
then you may need to pack yourself an extra-large suitcase, as Kalypso Media
(and El Presidente, of course) is preparing a bumper package for the beloved
strategy game on PC. Packing in both full expansions ‘Espionage’ and
‘Waterborne’ along with all 10 DLC add-ons released to date, Tropico 5 -
Complete Collection contains more extras than a typical Tropican employment
contract and ensures that even the most budget-conscious of wannabe-dictators
can get their dynasties in full-swing without having to raid their Swiss bank
accounts for extra funds.
About Tropico 5 - Complete Collection
You, as El Presidente, will first take control of the infamous island of Tropico
during early colonial times and then guide it through the centuries as the world
changes and moves ever forward. You must tackle the changing needs of your
people, as well as opposing governments and factions, and thus lay the
foundations for your own dynasty. As you move through your years in office you
can promote members of your extended family on the island to positions of power:
such as ambassador, commanding general or even Supreme Ruler, to ensure your
legacy thrives through the eras. As your influence and wealth grows, so do the
threats to your burgeoning island superpower. Can you survive both World Wars,
prosper through the Great Depression, rule as an iron-fisted dictator through
the Cold War and advance your country to modern times and beyond? From the 19th
to the 21st century, each era carries its own challenges and opportunities.

This trailer shows off
Human: Fall Flat, a physics-based puzzle game coming to PCs later this
year, though this can be purchased right now as a playable prototype on the
No brakes games websites.
Here's word on the game, which centers on the unusual theme of lucid dreams.
Here's word: Human: Fall Flat puts players in the shoes of Bob, who keeps
having dreams about falling. Bob finds himself wandering through surreal,
floating dreamscapes, each of which requires solving various physics-based
puzzles. This is not an easy task for a human with zero superpowers, but with
the right tools he can do a lot… and misusing those tools he can do even more.
Advanced physics and innovative controls set the stage for a wide range of
interesting challenges. Bob’s dreams of falling are riddled with puzzles to
solve in as many ways as you can dream up, as well as plenty of distractions to
just mess around with, offering hours of unique gameplay. Will you try to open
that mysterious door, or would you rather see how far you can throw a speaker
set out that window? Continue here to read the full story.
I'm quite disappointed in my winter boots. I just picked these up last year as
part of my project to improve my winter wardrobe, and I got these insulated
Columbia Bugbear boots that I fell in love with because they were super warm and
comfortable. Now that we've had a couple of cold days I've gotten to wear them
this year, and the first time I tightened them, one of the cloth lace loops
broke. They are still usable this way, but yesterday another broke, so these
things are on their way out. This is probably salt-related corrosion, but the
cloth is clearly not up to the rigors of winter. I see there's an older model of
this boot with metal loops, and I since liked them so much I think I'm going to
give them another try in a better form and hope it works out better.
