Assassin's Creed Chronicles: India Next Week

Ubiblog now offers a new trailer from Assassin's Creed Chronicles: India showing off this 2.5D platformer based on the stealth/action series. The accompanying update says to expect this to be released next Tuesday:

Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: India takes a running leap onto consoles and PC on January 12, and while you’re waiting, we’ve got a new, in-depth trailer primed to whet your appetite. If you’re curious to find out what sets Arbaaz Mir’s colorful, 2.5D adventures in 19th century India apart from those of Shao Jun in 16th century China, here’s a better look:

Boasting a unique art style and new gameplay twists, Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: India drops players into 1841, when conflict was starting to brew between the British East India Company and India’s Sikh Empire. Of course, the Templars have a hand in it all, but Arbaaz’s concerns are more immediate; on a quest to stop the Templars from stealing the Koh-i-Noor Diamond, he’ll also need to steal back a familiar artifact while working to protect his lover, Princess Pyara Kaur.

Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: India will be available for digital download on January 12 for PS4, Xbox One and PC. For more information on the trilogy, visit the official site.

Oculus Rift $599

Oculus Rift preorders are now underway on the Oculus website, finally revealing pricing for consumer versions of the VR headsets, which will be $599.00, though as previously announced, credit cards will not be charged until these are shipped. Word is these will ship in March, and the bundle includes a wireless Xbox One controller along with the headset. There is some backlash over the price of the units, so it will be interesting to see how that impacts orders.

GameInformer has word that Square Enix is closing down Shinra Technologies, the cloud gaming service they announced in September 2014.They quote a press release translated by Gematsu saying a lack of third-party investors has left them on the hook for $16.8 million, and they link to a tweet from a former employee confirming the closure.

Just Cause 3 Sky Fortress DLC Revealed

A Steam community announcement unveils details on Sky Fortress DLC for Just Cause 3, the "air" portion of the Air, Land and Sea expansion pass announced a few months ago (thanks Videogamer). The post also offers details on a small release coming to the action sequel today on all platforms which will add the ability to buy content previously offered as preorder bonuses, and say they are also working on addressing issues with the game. Here's word:

For those of you who picked up the XL Edition, or for anyone interested in the Air, Land and Sea Expansion Pass we announced earlier last year, we’ve got some exciting news for you all. Whilst one side of the studio is working on patches, fixes and optimisations for the game, which will continue to roll out over the coming weeks, the other side is busily bringing this additional content to life. The first pack – ‘Sky Fortress’ which is the “Air” pack, is nearing completion, and will bring new missions, features and other exciting surprises to the skies of Medici. We’re play testing this content right now so watch this space for more news on this very soon.

On top of this, we’ve got a small release of additional weapons and vehicles landing across Steam, PSN & Xbox stores today. This isn’t strictly new stuff – all of this content was previously available as part of our pre-order programmes, so for the early adopters out there you may already have most of these items. However, if there’s any particular pre-order incentives you missed out on that you want to pick up, you can now do so. Check out the store pages for more info.

For those of you that are still having some issues with your game, rest assured that we’re working on optimisations, bug fixes, performance enhancements and improvements, and we’ll continue to roll these out as soon as they’re ready, with the next patch expected later in the month. We’re doing everything we can to get to the bottom of all the issues that are reported to us.

Oculus Rift Preorders Won't Sell Out, No Charge Until Release

With Oculus Rift preorders set to begin in less than two hours on the Oculus website, Oculus founder Palmer Luckey offers reassurances that there is no danger they will sell out, and that they are not charging anyone at this point (thanks VG247). This tweet covers their ability to deal with demand: "No chance of Rift preorders 'selling out', we will keep taking preorders for as long as people want EVE: Valkyrie!" And this one explains this is a preorder, not a prepurchase:

We won't lock people into preorders months before reviews come out using our awesome preorder bonuses. We have confidence in our product!

Out of the Blue

I've got the Internet doctor coming by today to look at intermittent outages that I've been experiencing. The last time this happened a little tweaking of signal strengths was enough to put things right again, but it's disturbing that things have gone south so quickly. I'm starting to grow frustrated with the flakiness of my cable service, and am starting to contemplate a return to FiOS, which will be inconvenient, since they don't offer TV in this area, but it was far more reliable.
