There's news of more trouble at Red5 following their layoffs
last month, as
GameInformer says the developer of the
Firefall MMORPG missed payroll
last week, making for a rough holiday for their approximately 80 employees. They
reproduce an email saying the company lacked the necessary funds, but they were
"currently working to resolve this, during the holidays, as soon as possible."
GameInformer also notes that a couple of additional layoffs recently took place
there, and that there is currently a
GoFundMe campaign to help raise some holiday cheer for the families impacted
by this situation.
A
post on GOG.com warns that the end of the year will also mark the end of
their sale on various Duke Nukem games, and that they will cease offering their
DRM-free versions of these games shortly after that. They leave the door open
for their return, saying the games are departing "for now," and of course they
will remain in the libraries of their owners. This includes the three Duke
platformers, the classic FPS
Duke Nukem 3D, and the Duke-themed pinball
game
Balls of Steel. They also warn that chance to get a free copy of
Dragonshpere
Dragonsphere concludes this year as well. Here are the details:
This
is not where the Duke Nukem legacy ends, but it is where we part ways - for now.
So
Farewell, Duke! The sale will last until December 31, 10:59 AM GMT. The
games will be removed from sale soon thereafter, but they will not disappear
from your shelf if you're an owner.
Come get some.
Last chance to get Dragonsphere for free.
With the start of the new year, Dragonshpere will no longer be a free game on
GOG.com due to new publisher agreements. If you haven't claimed a copy for
yourself, make sure to do so by December 31, 22:59 PM GMT - afterwards the game
will be regularly priced at $5.99.
The industrious folks at GfK Chart-Track did not let a holiday weekend derail
their weekly rundowns on the bestselling games in the U.K. There certainly isn't
much movement to report, however, as the
PC top 30 for the week ending December 28th has the exact same top six as
last week and the
all platforms top 40 chart for the same period is almost as static. Here's
the big picture:
Activision Blizzard’s ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops III’ takes a third
consecutive No1 for week 52, 2015 having claimed the Christmas No1 last week.
Sales climb by an impressive +40% over last week and for the 8 weeks on chart so
far since launch this title has never been out of the Top 2 (50% of the time at
No1). This week’s chart actually covers the run-up to Christmas and includes
Boxing day, which explains why overall sales climb +13% units / +15% revenue
over last week. And in fact there is still one more week to go for 2015, as this
is a 53 week year. The Top 5 games all show impressive increases over last week,
with EA’s ‘Star Wars Battlefront’ still at No2 (+16%), EA’s ‘FIFA 16’ steady at
No3 (+20%) and Bethesda a non-mover at No4 with ‘Fallout 4’ (+13%).
Rockstar/Take 2 climb 3 places to No5 with ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ (+58%) and
Square Enix drop 1 place to No6 with ‘Just Cause 3’ (+0%).
Happy last week of the year... With Christmas in the rearview and the new year
on the horizon this is inevitably a quiet period, allowing me to catch up on any
goofing off that's gotten backed up. I do think I want to try to get in some
more seasonal movies before the mood is lost, though if I don't, I already
covered the essentials with viewings of A Charlie Brown Christmas and Bad Santa.
