Steam suffered some errors resulting from a configuration error yesterday, with
users arriving at pages generated for other users of the system. This lead to
fears of hacking and the possibility of unauthorized changes. For some reason
Valve has remained silent on the situation on
Steam News, choosing to make
their statement on what happened
to Kotaku (thanks nin), downplaying fears that this will have any lasting
ramifications:
Steam is back up and running without any known issues. As
a result of a configuration change earlier today, a caching issue allowed some
users to randomly see pages generated for other users for a period of less than
an hour. This issue has since been resolved. We believe no unauthorized actions
were allowed on accounts beyond the viewing of cached page information and no
additional action is required by users.
Happy Boxing Day. Happy Kwanzaa. Happy Saint Stephen's Day. Happy Junkanoo.
Happy Zartosht No-Diso. Happy Mummer's Day. Man, today is like its own holiday
season within the holiday season! Here's hoping everyone celebrating had a safe
and happy Christmas, and that Santa was good to you.
