Steam News has a follow up on the recent discovery of a PEGI listing for a PC edition of FINAL FANTASY VI, the RPG sequel. Word is this is "coming soon" to Steam. The game's Steam page lists a December 16th release date, though the forums are abuzz with discussion of how this is a port of the recent mobile version of FFVI. The announcement does mention some specific enhancements: "New features include painstakingly recreated graphics by veteran character designer Kazuko Shibuya, updated controls and active-time battle system optimized for fluid combat on PC, and Steam achievements and trading cards."

The patch notes outline all this changes, including in-game rewards for recruiting friends to play (detailed further on this page), the removal of hero talent gating, the expansion of the hero rotation, and the extension of the Black Friday 50% off sale through the end of the year. This post has more on presales, which are $59.99 USD, including a reminder of a physical reward for retail preorders, which is a randomly selected collectible figurine.

Binding of Isaac Mod Tool Plans

The Binding of Isaac blog has details on the upcoming Afterbirth DLC for the action/adventure game (thanks Eurogamer). Some of this takes a creative approach to creating intrigue with heavy redaction, but part of it is a straightforward announcement that this will include various editors to create mods for the game. Here's that part:

Afterbirth † will include a player/user-friendlier Room Editor, Animation Editor and Lua support. You’ll also be able to edit the item pools.

Room Editor: The Room Editor, will allow you to design your own rooms without hacking the game. This includes rocks, blocks, TNT, holes, chests, enemies and just about everything else Ed has access to.

Animation Editor: the Animation Editor it’s just exactly what it sounds like, you’ll be able to externally create your own new art, nightmares etc, then import those files into the animation editor to bring it to life and appear in the game. hashtag=fun

Lua Support: This might be the single biggest thing that will really allow you to go crazy in terms of modifying the game. With full Lua support you can create new enemies, items and effects and make a whole new Isaac or–hell, even an entirely new game that ISN’T Isaac.

Hatoful Boyfriend: Holiday Star Next Week

Here's word on the new installment in this pigeon dating series: "The loveable birds of Hatoful Boyfriend are back in the remastered holiday-themed sequel Hatoful Boyfriend: Holiday Star! Vive Headsets Delayed

HTC has announced another delay to their Vive VR headsets, reports Ars Technica, though the blog post this comes from is offline at this time, so we have to rely on this cached version of the update. These headsets being developed in cooperation with Valve were first announced for release this year, but over the summer announced a delay to Q1 2016, so this represents a delay of around a month.

New Grand Theft Auto Online Mode

Rockstar Games announces details on a creative new Every Bullet Counts adversary game mode now available in Grand Theft Auto Online. Here's a bit:

Two bullets. One life. No mercy. The assemblage of GTA Online Adversary Modes for PS4, Xbox One and PC grows stronger today with the release of the brand new Every Bullet Counts - an intense Last Man Standing variant with a unique twist to keep you on your toes and constantly on your guard.

With no safe place to hide, four players go up against each other in a confined space with a very limited arsenal, just one Marksman Pistol and two bullets to take out three opponents. Once you've exhausted your ammo, you'll need to resort to crafty melee attacks with your Hatchet or Machete to make it out alive.

Tooth and claw is the order of the day, as this Free-For-All mode demands specific skills of its participants including marksmanship, stealth and timing. Campers and lurkers be warned: anyone staying still for more than 5 seconds will have their blip revealed on the map, making them an easier target for enemies who are wisely moving from cover to cover.

Players will get to dive beyond humanity as they upgrade and augment themselves into walking weapons in this gripping tactical shooter, where coordinating calculated attacks, hacking enemy weaponry and utilizing SkillSync to share cyberskills holds the key to success. For the chance to be a part of the Early Access program or later beta tests, players can sign up at www.FirstAssaultGame.com. Or, for immediate access when the game goes live next week, Nexon America is now offering a selection of Early Access Packs for purchase, which include exclusive in-game content.

EVE Online Updated

The EVE Online website has news on the release of Operation Frostline, which CCP says is the largest content release for the MMORPG this year. They say this evolves the game's storyline, and paves the way for the release of the Citadel expansion next spring. Here are some details:

Today’s release also brings 13 new ships, the largest introduction in a release in years. Command Destroyers make their debut, altering the battle meta with area-of-effect Micro Jump Field Generators pulling all nearby sub-capital ships with them as they leap 100 kilometers in the direction they are heading. Also unveiled is the Endurance, a nimble ice-mining frigate designed to travel into deep space and harvest precious ice ore from shattered wormholes and the most lucrative null-security regions. Four new Navy Electronic Warfare Frigates deliver powerful support to fast moving gangs and Tech II Logistics Frigates provide crucial restorative power for the shields and armor of their fleetmates.

Several significant graphical updates were also added to EVE Online, including: a running kill-mark tally of PvP victories on each ship, accumulated rust and dust on hulls, stunning new shield and armor damage effects, gorgeous engine effects for all ships, subtle yet vibrant changes to the nebulae and starfields, new ship SKINs, beta-versions of new orbital and first-person camera controls, module effect overhauls for smartbombs, e-war modules, cynosaural fields and more.

System Shock 3 Teased

A teaser website from Otherside Entertainment sports a large System Shock 3 logo and is accepting signups from those interested in more information about their plans. Otherside also has another retro project in the works, as they recently Kickstarted Underworld Ascendant, a new installment in the Underworld series. There's not much else to go by for now, so it's not clear how this fits in with recent news that Night Dive Studios is working on a System Shock 2 remake, that they own the rights to the series, and they had an interest in creating a third System Shock game. Thanks PCGamesN.

Cyberpunk 2077 Next Year?

CD Projekt Red hopes to publish Cyberpunk 2077 by late 2016, reports Gamereactor, saying this "has been verified by a reliable source close to the Polish developer and Gamereactor Germany." They reached out for an official response to this, but have not yet received a reply. This does conflict a bit with a comment by the publisher about the sci-fi RPG earlier this year, saying that 2015 and 2016 would be devoted to The Witcher 3. Thanks VG247.

Bombshell Trailer

3D Realms offers a Mighty Punch trailer from Bombshell, showing off some of one of the abilities in their upcoming action/RPG. There's nothing accompanying this except this sparse description:

This is the Mighty Punch - Bombshell dashes toward her target, laying waste to anything and everything that stands in her path!

Add to Steam Wishlist: http://bit.ly/BombshellSteam

From the creators of 2013's Rise of the Triad and legendary game maker 3D Realms comes Bombshell, an isometric action role-playing game for PC, Xbox One, and PS4. Bomb disposal technician turned mercenary for hire, Shelly, must strong-arm her way across 4 planets in an Unreal Engine-powered galactic adventure to rescue the president from an apocalyptic alien threat.

Ship Ahoy - The Sims 4: Get Together

EA Maxis announces the release of the Get Together expansion for The Sims 4, their wee people simulation. Here's word on the add-on, which requires the base game to play:

It’s time for your Sims to get together with their friends in The SimsTM 4. Today, Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:EA) announced that The Sims 4 Get Together Expansion Pack* is now available on PC and Mac® in North America. For the first time, players can create and play with groups of Sims as they explore the beautiful European-inspired world of Windenburg.

Brand new to The Sims 4, players can introduce their Sims to a variety of different Clubs, featuring Sims with distinct interests, personalities, and styles. If players can’t find the perfect Club for their Sims, they can create and customize their own Clubs to play any way they like.

“With the introduction of Clubs, The Sims 4 Get Together unlocks a new way to play with life,” says Lyndsay Pearson, Senior Producer, The Sims 4. “This is the first time that players can control entire groups of Sims, and bring Sims together to participate in all-new group activities. Clubs fundamentally changes the way you control your Sims and adds a whole new dimension to The Sims 4.”

Windenburg is a new world, with picturesque locations for players’ Sims to explore, such as the sprawling hedge maze at the Von Haunt Estate, stunning pools along the Bluffs, and the mysterious ancient ruins. It is also a great world for socializing with all new venues and hangouts for Sims to practice their DJ and Dancing skills.

Players can take their Sims to local hotspots to gossip over a delicious espresso at the café, play games with their pals in the pub, dance the night away at the disco, and more! In The Sims 4 Get Together, there’s always something fun for Sims, and their friends, to do, together.

The Sims 4 Get Together is rated ‘T’ for Teen by the ESRB and is available for $39.99 on PC and Mac on OriginTM, and at retail stores. For more information, please visit www.TheSims.com/get-together.

Tempest Early Access

Tempest is now available for Windows on Steam as an early access release, offering the chance to set sail in a Shakespeare-free seafaring pirate adventure. This game eschews all the booty plundering for the action of naval battles, as shown off in this trailer. Here's word:

When we created Tempest, we focused on the most thrilling part of pirate life – sea battles.

As you navigate the dangerous waters of the game you won’t just catch up with merchants, but you will encounter fellow pirates, creepy followers of a mysterious cult and terrible mythical monsters: Kraken, Leviathan and other infamous creatures.

Your ship – the pride and joy of any freebooter – can be customized in many ways. You are free to change almost everything – from the color of your flag and sails to the ship’s hull and figurehead.

Of course, there are plenty of weapons to choose from for every battle, including cannons, mortars, flame throwers and so on. Also there are special tools ready to help you to rig the ship for any purpose. However, you can win the most valuable artifacts only by finishing the multilevel quests called “legends”.

Out of the Blue

The last couple of years I started slowly in our football pool and came on strong at the end. This year I hit my stride too early, and have been doing really poorly lately. I guess this is exemplified by the recent run of games on national TV that were all decided on the final play of the game, as I have had the losing team in each of those walk-off games. Oh well, it's hard to beat yourself up for misses like that, though it certainly is frustrating.
