Archived News:
Blizzard updates us on the Overwatch beta test, saying this will go on a
break starting December 10th, though they expect the closed beta to resume in
late January, with a full launch planned for the spring.
This post has the details along with a brief FAQ, saying they are not adding
new players before the shutdown, but will be expanding the beta when it resumes.
They also offer some stats from testing of the teamplay first-person shooter: Since
the start of the Overwatch beta in late October, aspiring heroes from around the
world have battled it out in more than 900,000 matches. In this same period of
time, we've also gathered invaluable information about our servers, core systems
like matchmaking, and overall map and hero balance—thanks not only to the raw
data we've collected from the game, but also to the numerous bug reports,
suggestions, critiques, and experiences you’ve shared.
Here's a new video
developer's diary for Space Engineers where Keen Software House's Marek Rosa
introduces the "game changing" Planets feature for the space game. Here's word:
"In this developer diary, Marek Rosa – CEO, CTO & founder of Keen Software House
- describes the story behind the development of the highly requested feature
that has reinvented the building experience from the ground up. He shares info
about the idea behind this concept, the reasons why the studio decided to
develop Planets and what makes them special." Continue here to read the full story.
AGEod
now offers Wars of Napoleon, which they call "the most detailed and
comprehensive strategy game ever created" about the Napoleonic era. This
launch trailer set the
stage, and here's word on the game: Some call him The Little Corporal,
others That Corsican Ogre. In any case Napoleon is an historical figure that
divides opinion. Feared by his enemies and glorified by his soldiers, he was one
of few men able to change the destiny of an entire continent. Eight years after
Napoleon’s Campaigns, Ageod again follows in the footsteps of the famous emperor
with a very ambitious wargame: Wars of Napoleon.
Featuring iconic battles like Austerlitz and Waterloo, the game also offers a
gigantic Grand Campaign covering more than 10 years of war. At the head of one
of the seven major nations available, players will have to take the right
military and political decisions to dominate most of Europe… or thwart the
hegemonic plan of Napoleon. Managing armies fighting miles away on several
fronts requires a lot of planning and great organizing skills. Only the leaders
able to build a consistent logistics network and chain of command may hope to
keep their men motivated.
As usual with Ageod productions, the level of detail is impressive. With more
than 300 different uniforms from accurate sources, 400 portraits of generals of
the period and many historical events popping up, playing Wars of Napoleon is
like seeing history appear before your eyes. Also in order to spice up the
gameplay, players can enable some what-if situations to change the balance of
powers between nations. Just imagine the consequences of the USA declaring war
to Great-Britain in 1812! Continue here to read the full story.

UbiBlog announces
open beta testing is underway for EndWar Online, their browser-based MMO
strategy game. Here's word on the new Wargame Mode this adds: This update
brings exciting new PvP gameplay to EndWar Online. Wargame mode is a live PvP
mode that challenges players to build a deck of special commanders and endure as
many battles as possible without being defeated. The system will pick three
special commanders (at maximum skill and equipment level), and players will
choose one. This process continues until six commanders have been chosen. These
commanders aren’t limited to the player’s commander list. Players then battle
against each other until they have either won nine victories or suffered three
losses. At this point they will be rewarded based on how many victories they
scored. Great rewards can be gained from consecutive victories!

Round Table Games announces Deal with the Devil, an Unreal Engine 4 game
in the works for PC and consoles with an aim to "bridge the gap between
narrative-driven experience and first person horror." There is background on the
game and the company on the Round Table
website, and here's the announcement: Round Table Games Studio (RTGS),
founded early 2015 by industry veteran Rich Barham, formerly with Blizzard
Entertainment, Riot Games, and ZeniMax along with Tanya Krzywinska, first
professor of games in the UK, recently named in the Top 100 Women in Games,
today announce the development of their first title: Deal With The Devil.
RTGS, based in Falmouth, Cornwall, are working in partnership with award winning
developer Anti-Matter Games on this title. Currently being developed in Unreal
Engine 4 for PC/Console, this game aims to bridge the gap between
narrative-driven experience and first person horror.
Deal with the Devil is a story-rich, first-person globetrotting journey through
the sinister side of the Roaring Twenties. You play as Amelia Woods, an atypical
protagonist, as she walks the tightrope between Champion and Anti-Hero.
In the madness of a Post-War world recovering from the devastation of the
apocalyptic Spanish Flu, Amelia must navigate the mysteries of ancient,
forbidden places, hidden beneath the Art-Deco Glamour of a world filled with
eldritch horrors.
Steam Community Group Announcement from Avalanche Studios talks about
technical problems users are encountering with
Just Cause 3, saying
they are "fully committed to providing you the best possible experience." To
that end a patch is in the works for the just-released action sequel, but they
ask for some patience as they work through the process. Here's word: We
know you’re going to want specific information on when a patch will land and
what will be fixed – we would love to give you that information, and we will as
soon as we have it. But right now, a little over one day since we launched, we
have huge numbers of players in our enormous game world and we’re monitoring all
the data coming in.
We need a little bit of time to recreate some of these issues and build fixes.
Rest assured though – we are fully committed to making Just Cause 3 as awesome
as possible. We already know loads of people are having a blast with the game
but we’ll do all we can to make sure everyone is laughing and smiling as they
play.

We’d recommend PC players also visit the Steam forums as there are a number of
tips there can could improve or fix some of the issues that have been reported
(pinned posts).
Capcom has
taken to Twitter to clarify that their plans for a new version of
Resident Evil 2 involve recreating it from the ground up, rather than just
updating the graphics in the 1998 survival/horror sequel (thanks
Destructoid). The project was unveiled
over the summer, while
a recent investor's report raised concerns by referring to this a
"remastered" version of the game. This was apparently because this was a quick
port of the original Japanese document, rather than a proper ground-up remake of
the announcement. Capcom's Stuart Turner clarifies: "Seems to be a few people
picking up a mistranslation in our own investor report. RE2 will be a full from
the ground up remake NOT a remaster."
This trailer from
Total War: WARHAMMER is a
walkthrough of the greenskins campaign, offering work-in-progress gameplay
footage from the upcoming fantasy-themed strategy game. Here's word on what we
are looking at: "The beautifully detailed 3D campaign map will immerse players
deep into the Old World of Warhammer Fantasy Battles. In this rich, high-fantasy
sandbox they can create a legend of their own by mastering the addictive,
turn-based game of conquest, empire building and tactical maneuvers, as one of
four playable races (Greenskins, Dwarfs, Vampire Counts and Empire). Like all
Total War titles, conflicts can be settled in thrilling, epic-scale real-time
battles." Continue here to read the full story.
The end of the year marks my annual physical, something that's been complicated
the past few years by my doctor's busy schedule, which makes it hard to get
an appointment. This has led to another two-part visit: Today I dropped by to
leave them some blood and urine (which always goes better when you are
expected), and I will follow-up with an actual examination next week. This is
the first time we've done it this way, which makes me wonder why, since it seems
efficient for the doctor to be ready with test results to discuss them during
the exam. I think I'll try and set it up this way for next year as well, though
as I say, getting appointments is tricky enough to begin with. Now if I could
only figure out why a five minute procedure five minutes from my house took an
hour and a half out of my morning.
