Trendy Entertainment announces the free-to-play era is now underway for
Dungeon
Defenders II on Steam, their early access action/tower defense sequel.
The game is now considered an open alpha, and here's a
new trailer to
celebrate the occasion. Here's a
Steam update with more details, and here's part of the news: Open
alpha arrives on PC on the heels of last week’s new “Ascension” patch, which
plays with Dungeon Defenders II in some fun ways. Towers are now bigger and
stronger, and enemies have been rebalanced to match the challenge. In addition,
weapons are more powerful and feature new variations in attack patterns and
speed to fit players’ individual tastes. Player choice is supported even further
by the introduction of the Stat Allocation System, allowing players to choose
where to place stat points as they level up. “Ascension” also includes a new
Huntress build, costumes and more.
But that’s only Part One! Part Two of the “Ascension” update, expected for
release on Oct. 27, will roll out two new holiday-themed maps and a fresh
Incursion, as well as new minibosses, hero builds, and spooky costumes, among
other improvements.
Dungeon Defenders II is a third-person action-strategy game featuring classic
role-playing elements like loot, leveling, pets and more. Players must build the
ultimate champions and tactical defenses to protect the magical realm of Etheria
from the invading waves of the Old Ones’ armies. The game advances the original
Dungeon Defenders experience with new combat systems and abilities, supporting
modes for single-player and four-person online cooperative multiplayer.

Funcom announces The Park will
indeed be released this month as
promised, saying the survival/horrog game will come on October 27th so it
will be scaring gamers for Halloween. Those planning on picking this up may be
interested in the preorders now underway on
GamersGate,
Green
Man Gaming, and Steam,
each of which is offering a discount for the commitment. They also note that the
game offers several in-game perks for those who play
The Secret World, their MMORPG that
uses the same setting. Here's a rundown on the game: "'The Park' is all
about the psychological aspect of horror and the slow building of tension and
unease through storytelling and exploration," says Creative Director Joel Bylos.
"The story is told over one to two hours of gameplay and we have tried to tell a
tale that is both terrifying and deeply emotional at the same time, offering
players a different Halloween experience than they might expect going in."
Focusing entirely on intense storytelling and exploration instead of combat and
action, 'The Park' draws inspiration from games such as 'Gone Home', 'Dear
Esther' and 'The Vanishing of Ethan Carter'. The player must step into the shoes
of Lorraine, a mother whose son has gone missing inside the park, and what
follows is a terrifying and emotional journey.
Zombasite is
now available as an early access release, offering the chance to play Soldak's
upcoming action/RPG while supporting the completion of its development. This can
be purchased for Windows, OS X, and Linux on either the
Zombasite website or
Steam. Either way the
price is the same, as is what you can expect: Gamers who buy Zombasite
Early Access (direct or Steam) will receive full access to the latest beta
build, a reduced price of only $14.99, the opportunity to give Soldak feedback
which can influence the game, and of course, the final version when it becomes
available.
Zombasite is a zombie apocalypse action RPG set in a dynamic, evolving, fantasy
world for Windows, Mac, and Linux.
The dark elves have always played god by creating and enhancing underworld slave
creatures. As they watched a horde of zombies destroy the huge demon city Kraval,
the dark elves were tantalized by the devastating power of uncontrolled zombies,
and desired to control and increase it. When they wove their dominating magic
into a few captive zombies something went horribly wrong!
They hadn't known the powerful necromancer, Ciglio, had created these zombies.
To control his huge armies of undead, Ciglio permanently bound his zombies and
their infected victims to him. This binding was so powerful, their loyalty
surpassed his untimely death. In the dark elves' pride and lust, their magic
twisted into Ciglio's binding, fusing into a new, uncontrollable creation, the
Zombasite.
Zombasite is a nasty, voracious, all-consuming Zombie Parasite. It doesn't just
reanimate the dead into mindless zombies. It is intelligent, insatiable, and
unstoppable—infecting and killing the living, spreading faster and in more ways,
helping the dead utilize many of their original skills, and mutating the dead
with new powers. Dark elf zombies are terrifying!
Stardock
announces plans to launch early access to Ashes of the Singularity on
October 22nd, saying this will allow the chance to get their RTS game before
it's completed at a 20% discount. Here's word on a couple of breakthroughs this
game represents: Ashes of the Singularity aims to deliver a real time
strategy game with an unprecedented scale by being the first native 64-bit RTS
game, as well as utilizing a new 3D engine (Nitrous) that fully leverages modern
multi-core PCs. The game is also the first game to support Microsoft's new
DirectX 12 API, which will enable the game to deliver immense world-wide battles
and high visual fidelity for each unit.
"Previously, RTS games had to choose between great visuals or lots of units, due
to being limited to 32-bit and DirectX 9 based engines," said Brad Wardell,
President & CEO of Stardock. "It's one of the reasons that RTS games have kind
of hit a wall these past few years. The RTS could be pretty or be epic, but not
both. Thanks to the Nitrous engine, we can support tens of thousands of units
acting independently as part of a worldwide battle with a distinct visual
style."
Set in the distant future, the player starts on a contested planet with a single
headquarters. The player must gather resources, build factories, research new
technologies, manage a global economy, manufacture massive armies of
machine-based constructs, and annihilate all opposition.
"We are very excited to go into early access," said Wardell. "Given how
ambitious this game is, we're going to need all the help we can get from our
player base to reach our goal of making this the most epic, large-scale real
time strategy game ever."
Besides being the first 64-bit RTS and being the first to use DirectX 12, Ashes
of the Singularity also includes the first asynchronous multi-core real-time AI.
A new trailer from
Assassin's Creed Syndicate shows off some of the historical characters you can
come across in Assassin's Creed Syndicate, as the stealth assassination sequel
is apparently taking a page from Forrest Gump. The clip shows virtual versions
of Alexander Graham Bell, Karl Marx, Charles Darwin, Charles Dickens, Florence
Nightingale, and Queen Victoria, along with looks at the game's depiction of
gaslight London. Continue here to read the full story.
EA and DICE celebrate the success of their Star Wars Battlefront open
beta, announcing that more than nine million players participated, making this
the largest beta in EA history: “Impressive. Most Impressive.” Yesterday,
the Star Wars™ Battlefront™ beta surpassed a major milestone: more than nine
million players logged in and played. That makes this the single largest beta in
the history of EA. We could not be happier that so many of you wanted to come in
to get a small taste of what our passionate team has been working on.
Ever since we revealed Star Wars Battlefront back in April, we knew the beta
would be a huge test for our game. After all, the beta has been one of the most
talked about topics around the game over the last six months, and it was
exciting (and a little nerve racking if I’m being completely honest) to open it
up to the world.
And like Han Solo at the end of A New Hope, we’re glad you showed up. Even more
importantly than just showing up, you’ve been spending a lot of time playing,
having a great time and leaving us some invaluable feedback, as we continue to
tune and balance the game until launch on November 17, 2015 in North America,
and November 19, 2015 in Europe.
On behalf of the team at DICE, and everyone at EA, thank you for playing. We
hope you enjoyed what you played in the beta, which is just a small part of the
overall experience. There’s a lot more to the game, including all of our
multiplayer modes and
mission
types.
Thank you, and may the Force be with you, always.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Hearts of Stone is now available on
GOG.com and Steam,
offering the first expansion for CD Projekt RED's RPG sequel. There was also to
be the release of a physical disk for this (apparently though outlets called
"stores"), but
this forum post has word that this is delayed in North America (thanks
The Escapist). Word is: "However, it has come to our attention that, due to
logistical problems, customers will be unable to obtain the physical edition of
the game for several days after launch. We are working with GameStop to fix this
situation as soon as possible and deeply apologize for the inconvenience."
Here's the deal on the add-on: Professional monster slayer is hired to

this time hired to defeat a ruthless bandit captain, Olgierd von Everec, a man
who possesses the power of immortality. This expansion to “The Witcher 3: Wild
Hunt” packs over 10 hours of new adventures, introducing new characters,
powerful monsters, unique romance and a brand new storyline shaped by your

and Steam, this is a
complete version of the postapocalyptic RPG sequel, and also includes a free
copy of the original Wasteland along with everything else. Here's word:

of the coming day. Stay tuned for updates from them if you have Wasteland 2:
Director's Cut on a store other than Steam or GOG.com, such as Origin.
Meanwhile, console retail and digital release is scheduled for today in the
Americas, and October 16 for Europe, so keep an eye out if you are looking to

We've created a Wasteland 2: Director's Cut release FAQ covering many common
questions,
which you can find here, so take a look if you are in a reading mood while
you download.
Today marks the end to another leg of our game development journey through the
world of Wasteland, and we are honored to have shared it with you. Now, all we
can say is: enjoy!
This video from a
Chinese Heroes of the Storm match shows what appear to be some
shenanigans, as Tassadar busts out some basic attacks that briefly cause the
game to freeze before killing his targets in one shot. These seems suspicious
enough when it's used to capture camps, but then he proceeds to one-shot the
shielded core with a basic attack for the victory. This is so odd we were
actually able to understand the Chinese reaction the other team, which read
"???," "? ?," and "??????????" This matter has been reported to Blizzard, so
hopefully this won't become a widespread problem. Heroes had a round of bans
over the summer for use of hacks, though some of these ended up being false
positives. Many feel the game is vulnerable to these problems, since it is built
on the same engine as StarCraft II, which has been proven pretty hackable over
the years. In other news related to Blizzards' MOBA,
Dustin
Browder tweets a response to requests that some sort of reset of player
matchmaking ratings when the first season begins to provide relief for players
who feel unfairly stuck in MMR Hell, though he's not certain what form this will
take. Word is: @toHodakiLLa Yes, I think when we do a season roll we will
do something. I'm not sure what yet.
I had a goofy computer experience recently, which fits with my whole Windows 7
installation on this computer. These go back to building it, and having to use a
registry hack to do a clean install with an upgrade edition of the OS, something
that used to be supported. That took care of things until last week, when I
decided to take advantage of falling RAM prices to double my system from 16 to
32GB. This is when I realized that Window 7 Home Premium only supports 16GB of
RAM. Stubbornly determined to stick with Win7 (because reasons) I proceeded to
explore the options of upgrading to Win7 pro, something Microsoft has no
interest in since moving on to the new OS. Windows Anytime upgrades are no
longer available (using MS's function for this pulls up a visual basic error),
and regular disc upgrades are basically impossible to find. As I said, my
eventual solution was goofy, which was to enter an invalid Windows Anytime
Upgrade key which upgraded the machine, but would not authenticate, and then
change the product key to a valid one from a new copy of Win7 Pro that I picked
up, which authenticated just fine. Everything is working now, but that was
certainly more of an adventure than I signed on for with my simple RAM upgrade.
