GOG.com has the news that a new patch is now available for The Witcher III: The Wild Hunt, updating CD Projekt RED's RPG sequel to version 1.10, and saying this patch will be required to install the game's upcoming Hearts of Stone expansion. But that does not make this just a compatibility update, rather it is a massive patch with over six hundred changes. If you are interested in all the details, then block out some time to read the thirteen-page-long changelog, but they also offer a slightly shorter version, saying: "Altogether, it includes over six hundred in-game changes including quest fixes, performance optimisations, stability fixes and even new conversation options with key game characters. There are quality of life improvements as well, including anticipated new inventory management options."

Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth - Rising Tide Rises

2K and Firaxis announce the release of Rising Tide, the new expansion for Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth, the Windows, OS X, and Linux sci-fi RTS game. This page has all the details on the expansion, and here's part of the announcement:

Rising Tide pushes the boundaries of Beyond Earth across new alien terrains and oceans while adding more choices and diplomatic options as players build “one more turn” toward a new vision for humanity’s future. New aquatic gameplay allows players to explore the seas for colonization by dramatically extending the play space, while an overhauled Diplomacy system provides them with additional layers of dynamic choices and options to shape the diplomatic landscape. Players can also discover an assortment of additional updates, including visually-and behaviorally-distinct aliens that are now unique to each biome, as well as enormous, powerful Marvels that appear as part of the planet terrain and offer new quests to embark upon.

“Beyond Earth successfully proved there is an audience for a sci-fi spin-off to the Civilization franchise,” said Sarah Anderson, SVP of Marketing at 2K. “Over the last year, Firaxis has done a lot of work to ensure Rising Tide is an ambitious expansion that continues differentiating Beyond Earth from its historical predecessors while reviewing and implementing community feedback since the launch of the base game.”

Sir, You Are Being Hunted Adds Multiplayer

The Big Robot Blog announces the release of a version 1.0 multiplayer patch for Sir, You Are Being Hunted, practically a robot reboot of this first-person survival game. This trailer shows off some multiplayer testing conducted over the summer, and here's a bit on how this changes things:

Over three-hundred thousand Sir, You Are Being Hunted players can now enjoy the company of friends and enemies whilst being hunted to death by robots, thanks to a multiplayer client and the ability to launch dedicated servers. Multiplayer mishap was a feature promised way back in the mists of the 2012 Kickstarter, and marks the end of a splendid journey for the Big Robot team.

Lead designer James Carey explains: “Sir has always felt like a Multiplayer game in-waiting for us so it’s great to have finally made that a reality. It’s an interesting mix of coop and PvP: it might make sense to collaborate at the start of a game, but because only one person can escape at the end those alliances soon break down. It’s been fantastic to see players respond to that ambiguity during the beta test and it’s a real thrill to put those choices in the hands of the wider player base now.”

It’s important to mention that Sir, You Are Being Hunted is one of the few games to feature a networked playable trombone. So that’s cool.

  • Every week, at least one new dinosaur is added to expand the exotic fauna in the game.
  • Two weeks ago, ARK expanded significantly by adding two new biomes, snow and swamp, greatly increasing the scope and type of real estate and adding complexity to the environment and AI behavior.

The Park Trailer

A new trailer offers a look at The Park, Funcom's upcoming single-player horror game set in a theme park. The clip combines gameplay footage with developer commentary to help us better understand this project. Here's a bit on the clip from Funcom:

This new video offers both a glimpse behind the scenes at Funcom as well as the first-ever released gameplay footage showing 'The Park' in action. Creative Director Joel Bylos, Art Director Gavin Whelan and Audio Director Simon Poole takes time to explain what 'The Park' is all about and what players can expect to see and do once they step through the gates of Atlantic Island Park. Focusing entirely on atmosphere, exploration and a strong narrative, 'The Park' draws inspiration from games such as 'Gone Home', 'Dear Esther' and 'The Vanishing of Ethan Carter'.

"For the last ten years, Funcom has been focused on making massively multiplayer online games, so 'The Park' is our first single-! player experience in a long time," says Creative Director Joel Bylos. "It has been an incredibly fun and rewarding process working on 'The Park'. What initially started out as a prototype and a way for us to learn new development tools, has evolved into a short and intense psychological horror experience which we are all very excited to share with gamers out there."
